Child with ADHD

Hello!! The mother of one of my son's schoolmates told my wife that when on a recent trip to Disney she presented a doctor's certification stating that her son had ADHD and was given some sort of "pass" for their party that allowed them to get into the attractions without having to stand or wait in lines.

She told my wife that at Disney they treat ADHD children as having a disability thus extending to them and their families this consideration.

Has anyone of you guys ever heard of this? My son is diagnosed with ADHD and does tend to get restless while waiting in line so I guess it would be logical:veryconfu to have Disney consider this.

We're heading to WDW on 12/19 and I would like to know if this is true, and if it is, where do we present the doctor's certification to obtain the pass, because it would certainly make our trip more enjoyable.

Thanks for your insight.

iirc, you go to guest services in the parks, but perhaps someone else here can confirm.

this was sort of a controversial subject here a few weeks ago, quite a long thread about it here somewhere.

whether or not you need to take advantage of it is a decision you'll have to make. we'll be going in november, and my son is autistic. he's pretty high-functioning though, so my wife and i feel that it's not necessary to take disney up on their generosity. but we know many other families with children who have legitimate reasons for doing so.

Just stop by guest services in the first park you visit. They'll be able to tell you what kind of privileges can be extended for your situation, if you feel any are needed.

You can email Disney in advance to make sure.

As il grande chuck mentioned, this is a topic that has come up in the past, and sadly it brings the less respectable members out of the woodwork to throw abuse about. Please don't take it personally if they do it again.

Have a great trip and let us know how it went

Thank you all for the info.

Don't worry, I'm way past taking anything regarding this issue personally.

I pay no attention to ignorance.

how old is your son? because my brother has ADHD, and hes 16. I know that if we did this for him, he would get kind of embarrassed and mad because he's very sensitive about the situation. So depending on the age of your son, I'd suggest you ask him if he's okay with it first.

If you happen to be staying on property at a Disney resort you might try your hotel's concierge. We found them (at the Grand Floridian) to be very helpful pre arrival with questions we had regarding a number of issues. Just call them up with your reservation number handy and almost always you'll get someone happy to help you.
Hope you have a great time!:)

He's 10 and we already asked him and he told us that it's fine with him.

We will not abuse the privilege if it's available, we just want to know what options we have if we should need it.

We'll let you know how it went when we get back.
