Chicken Soup for the Magic Souls

Nope, he had some toast mid-afternoon, and a few crackers earlier. Plus he fell asleep on me this afternoon - boy he has gotten heavy ! I actually dozed off a little bit too.

How's school going for you so far?
I love my classes - the kids are great. Unfortunately I don't really have a room of my own, so I meet in a different room every period. That's really wearing thin - it's hard to stay organized when everything is in a crate on wheels.

I would imagine - is there any chance of you getting a classroom of your own eventually?

Yes, they're building a new wing with 6 new classrooms. It's supposed to be ready by Christmas break, but since groundbreaking is tomorrow, I seriously doubt that we'll see that happen.

Yes, that would be extraordinarily efficient of them. Maybe by spring break instead.

Well that's not til April, so hopefully it will be sooner than that. But whatever, I'm just tired of being in a different room every period. I feel like a homeless old lady.

Emotional evening. :dazzle:
I just this minute came home from my neighbor Betty's. Things fell into place quickly in the last few days. A nephew was located. At first, we were worried about just what his interest was in his aunt's situation, since he had little contact with her over the years. For a while, we were sure he was going to have her placed in an institution. But it was decided that she's going home with him to Albany. I met him tonight and he seems like a decent guy.
I knelt down in front of Betty to say good-bye and she said "I'll be good. I promise I won't throw anything away anymore." She thanked me for taking care of her and I asked her not to forget me.
Her little suitcase has one skirt, her bathing suit a handbag and a pink straw hat. That's all that's left.
Her house is scheduled to go to sheriff's sale on Nov. 4. Because of our intervention, a realtor is going to try to sell it for back taxes before that date. And, no matter what happens, Betty will be in a safe place.
To the neighbors here who just don't get what we did, I know I'll never make them understand. I don't care. I have no regrets for doing what was right.

Wow Dot. That's a great thing you did for her! You are definitely someone I would want as my neighbor.

It was a small group of us who worked on this together.

It shouldn't be a special thing, Jo.
People should care.
It makes me sick that so many don't.
It's such a "me me me" world.

I'm back for a few minutes.

Dot - tons of hugs for you and George for doing the right thing when no one else cared. You truly are a blessing!

Hello Fishy.
And thanks.
Really, I hope everyone understands that I told this story so everyone can know they can make a difference...no matter how small.
If I had done nothing and Betty's house was sold out from under her and she wound up on the street or in a state institution...I wouldn't have been able to live with myself for not at least trying.
