Chicken Exit on RnR?

We're going to WDW the end of the month and my 10 year old daughter is getting cold feet about riding RnR. Is there a way she can queue through the line and then skip the pre-show stuff and not ride? I'm hoping she might change her mind after she sees the pre-show.

I didn't notice if there was a chicken exit, though one would expect there must be something.

She may get excited after the preshow, but I also think that the short queing area after the preshow could scare someone away. The screeching sound of the 'limos' taking off could be scary to someone is unsure.

I hope she decides to give it a try. I bet she would love it! It's a very short ride, anyway, so if she hates it, it won't be too bad. :animwink:

Have fun!!!

Having exited the "recording studios" walk along by the side of the fencing to where the first CM allows you to get into boarding area. Behind the CM is a door which takes you through to the shop at the end of the ride.

I remember taking my 8 yr. old on Dinosaur. I lied through the whole pre-ride and she balled her head off through the ride. After spending 90 minutes in the bone yard...priceless!

OK first things first. Tell your daughter I Am completely on her side!! NEVER force a child onto a ride like that it will only increase the fear thing. Actually this website has a great video of the line, the preshow and the Coaster ride itself. The toughest part is absolutely the takeoff, but after that it is a very smooth coaster ride. Has she ever been on any other coasters?? Any way I can help I will try!! Having said that, there is absolutely a "Chicken Exit" it is after the preshow and before you actualy board the coaster itself so she can see most of the ride before she makes up her mind. If she does decide to ride the coaster, put the overhead harness on her as TIGHT as it will go. I find that way I dont get knocked around as much and feel much more secure!! Also tell her to relax her neck and lean back and listen to the really awesome music!!! Nothing like Steve Tyler singing at you to take your mind off of being shot into a roller coaster ride at 60 miles per hour! Good luck and I hope all of you have an awesome trip!!!

And let her know that you will be RIGHT NEXT TO HER! My son hated Space Mountain because he couldn't "grab" me when he was scared! Trust me, this is really important to a 7 - 10 year old! ;)

My sister used it... right when we were boarding, she refused to get in the car and was taken by that door. When my brother, her husband and me came back, she was at the gift shop waiting for us... :animwink:

That's what I was going to say too! Watching the limos go off still gives me a good case of the nerves - it's scary as H*** to me and I love the ride! :animwink:

We have talked with her at length about if she wants to ride or not and we have not pressured her either way; just that it's her decision. She has ridden ToT and SM and loves them. I think the acceleration and loops has her kinda worried. We're hoping she changes her mind. While at 6 Flags over GA, I had her on the Mindbender with me, strapped in the seat, and she started crying and we got off right before they took off. You have also offered some good advice as to how she should ride. Let you know when we get back!

I don't know how much this will help since she didn't actually ride the Mindbender, but here goes...I am a total and complete WUSS when it come to anything that goes upside down. I've only ridden Mindbender once and I didn't like it :( - Anyhow, RnRC is a lot different than MB. Kewl soundtrack, smoother ride, and best of all it's in the dark!!! I would recommend that if she does chose to ride that ya'll ride as close to the front as is humanly possible. It's an easier ride up front, and I would know since I'm such a coaster wuss! :D

Ya'll have an amazing trip!! :sohappy:

When are you leaving? ...I still have to mail you something! :)

Just make sure NOT to be in the first or last car! First for obvious reasons, and the last one cause you will see all the other cars going upside down before yours! (It´s very cool, but I´m not sure she will enjoy it... :animwink: )

Why not the first car? I'm a pretty much wuss when it comes to coasters and I feel the safest in the first car... What's your take on this Maria?

Front car gives the best visual ride in a coaster, albeit this one is in the dark. The back gives you the roughest ride. The middle is the tamest ride on a coaster.

UPDATE: I had her watch the RnR video from this website and she said that it didn't really look that bad. *Dad crosses fingers and hopes for the best*

Okay, that must be it - Quite a while ago I wouldn't ride any coaster at all, then my cousin & I went on the Scream Machine at 6 Flags and we were up front. For me personally it really helped - I guess it was because I could see what was coming. Since then the habit has stuck - I always ride up front! :)

Since I last posted I have been thinking about your daughter though...I too love ToT and Space Mountain, but it took me a few trys to start loving RnRC - that takeoff is pretty scary!

I'm not sure what my point is...people say children are less afraid than adults, so hopefully she'll love it! :D But if she doesn't, I'm sure she'll grow into it in her own time! :) Ya'll will have a fabulous time either way! I wish you the very best! :sohappy:

20 and counting? K- I'll get right on that mailing! :animwink:

Hello again!!! I am so happy you wont "force" her to go on anything. I actually know one child who was forced by his Dad and this kid is now terrified of any amusement park rides. Literally we went on a Big Thunder Mountain Railroad/ Runaway train type of ride at my local Six Flags. This is a VERY mild coaster, no loops and pretty short duration. This kid literally turned blue with fear and started chewing on the rollercoaster car to get out. I have NEVER seen anything like it. That having been said, my best friends son did go on RNRC with me when I went with them in Aug of 2001. HE LOVED it. He was 11 at the time.If it helps your daughter at all tell her that I wont go on TOT at all. I am not particularly into drop rides, but I am trying to work up the courage to do that one!!! So see she is braver than me!! I really hope she does ride it, I really think she would dig it. Also I dont think it is as scary as Space Mountain, as SM Is darker I think. I agree with the whole front of the car thing. I think you feel less of the G forces at Take off. 2nd-3rd car is nice. Best of Luck and if she rides it I want to get a posting or a PM from the young lady telling me what she thought!!!

I will post again after we get home. I actually think that she may be leaning toward riding it at the present moment, but I know women well enough that *cough cough* they can change their mind at anytime, even when they are 10 years old! I really appreciate everyone's advice and encouragement for her.

a tad more encouragement from the peanut gallery out here, RNRC is an incredibly SHORT ride!!!! I think it is like 1 1/2minutes long so if you dont like it the ride will be over VERY shortly!!! Big hugs from your friends out here for your daughter from Aunt Marie!! I hope she does go. I Am looking foward to an awesome trip report!!

That´s what I meant... front car is just too much to ask for to a person who is afraid of a rollercoaster, at least for me... I´d feel better if I´m in the middle and all I see are other people´s heads screaming too and going through the same with me. :animwink:

The last car on RnRC is my personal favorite! I really liked seeing the whole thing ahead of me turning upside down before I did. :D I´ve only ridden RnRC, I´m very afraid of rollercoasters and the only reason I like it is because it´s in the dark and because of the music on my ears that really sets the mood and goes with the emotion! :animwink:
