Chef's de France: Have I made a mistake?

OK, we are not a French restaurant family but for the first time we made dinner ADR's at Chef's de France for our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 boys). As usual we checked out the menu first, we foud a "Frenchly" named Angus burger that the boys would eat. Well...(I feel so stupid) we made our decision on the lunch menu not the dinner menu, and the dinner menu is very different. What I've read, this is not the restaurant in WDW that will make exceptions for kids, so have I made a mistake, should I book somewhere else....Help, I'm one month from arriving.

We really like it and have had no problems with our kids eating there.

When they changed their lunch menu a few years ago, we decided to give this place a try and now it is easily a top 3 WDW restaurant for me. The French Onion Soup is worth every penny and you can't go wrong with the mac and cheese or the toasted ham and cheese. I'm an extremely picky eater and I can't imagine any of those items being a problem.

Change your reservations to lunch if you can and just eat a light counter service meal for dinner. You won't be disappointed.

We ate there last trip, and I wasn't too impressed. I have to say I am not a French restaurant type myself. My son 11, at the time barely ate his dinner. I ordered a couple of appetizers, just to have something. I will never be sorry for trying a restaurant, but I would not go back.

I think I ordered a cheese plate, and a blue cheese salad if I remember correctly. My son ordered mac and cheese, and he didn't like it at all. I have to say I am more of a burger, and pizza kind of eater, so this really wasn't the best choice for me. DW did like it though. The others in our party not so much, they had their granddaughter with them, and the meal took a little too long for her.

My Fiance and I ate there on our trip last May.

I had the macaroni and gruyere cheese - so plain and not at all tasty.

DF had the duck. Said it was just "OK" and pretty plain as well.

The lobster bisque I had was decent. But thats about it.

I would probably not eat here again. There wasn't much on the menu that we liked to begin with.

I was there 2 weeks ago and a family next to us ordered a burger for their child. No problem. The food is decent. It's basic French meat/starch/sauce. I had the Salmon which was good. Others had the chicken (very large meal, 1/2 chicken and roasted potatoes), the shortribs and the mac and cheese. If you like pot roast, you'll like the short ribs.

My mom is a very cautious eater. We all loved this restaurant. Enjoy it! I had the chicken, they had steak. We were all surprised at how much we liked it. The French onion soup was incredible.

I have eaten there numerous times on trips to Disney World. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. I can't see there being any trouble with your children. There is another French restaurant upstairs called Bistro de Paris. This establishment is very fancy and "uptight". Perhaps that is the French restaurant that you heard of that wasn't great for kids. However, for Les Chefs de France, there should be no problems for you when you go there. I always enjoy my meals.

Last October my boyfriend and I made our first trip to Disney together and when we were making our ADRs I kept asking and asking to go to this restaurant..I originally did not win this battle..but when it came time to make the reservations we were unable to get a few so we had to shuffle some things around and he finally agreed to go:sohappy:..by far my favorite meal of the whole trip..like you said the menu is just fancy names for steak, chicken, salmon and mac n' cheese..I am a picky eater but will try almost anything if it comes on steak..so I just had them put the sauce on the side in case i did not like it..they are very accommodating here

Check the website as your trip gets closer. Remy only makes one round. If you aren't at your seat when he comes by, he won't come back.

Plus, as the E-trade baby says: "You'll save a pant load".

Seriously, Mrs. Plowboy (that would be Plowgirl) and I love the place. Additionally, with the way Disney has been raising dining prices, we seem to be eating our TS meal at lunch and doing more CS meals for dinner.

We are also trying Les Chef de France for the first time this year. One of the few restaurants in World Showcase we haven't tried, after reading reviews good and bad, we were skeptical, but more pros than cons. I agree... try to plan your dining time for Chef Remy's appearance. I am sure, it will be a memory for the kids :) Push comes to shove, they have mac and cheese (ala francais) and Im sure the desserts will be a big hit!!! Have a great time! :wave:
