I have nothing against the cheerleaders....they work extreamly hard to get to WDW for championships...I applaud their efforts...
I too have close cheerleader friends....

and when a large group do get together...(ie Varsity Girls and Boys hockey) our groups can get roudy too...as any femal/male trying to attract the opposite ______...

BUT!

I find there to be a difference in WDW...it seems that cheerleaders...almost seem to think they're better than that of the other guests.....
It seems that the costumes and cheers are said and worn to attract attention...."look at me! I can cheer!"

I've seen football teams in jerseys...and hockey teams in sweatshirts...but to be honest the most annoying seemd to be the cheerleaders...
Theres a time and place for cheers and costumes...thats all I'm really saying....

hmm
im a former cheerleader
and
a former dance team/flag twirler :)

went to disney as the chorus though
and
we sang on the ferry as we were crossing the lagoon. there were only like 15 of us or so, and we sang one of our favorites...
no one seemed annoyed, we actually got applauded.
i dont understand why you all think this is such an embarrassment, they are just showing their pride and school spirit. no crime in that as far as im concerned.

BTW Bring it on is playing on USA all week pretty much

Let's face it, cheerleaders at WDW are nothing more than a group of teens who share a common interest and are excited about being together at a fun place. The only difference between cheerleaders and other groups of teens is that the cheerleaders have memorized coordinated body movements and verbal chants to communicate with others of their kind. Much to the dismay of anyone within 200 feet.

And now on to a really weird avenue of thought...

Anyone stop to consider that cheerleading is based on very ancient pagan methods of trying to control the outcome of events in life? It's true. A ceremonial dance is performed (perhaps many) and there are repeated chants trying to invoke victory.

Before anyone takes offense, I'm not saying this is bad or wrong, I'm just pointing out from an anthropological view, this is one more custom in our society based on very ancient practices.

Teenagers -95% are wonderful people:)

I have been to WDW when there were Cheerleading Contests and Indy was closed:eek:

I have been there when there were lots of Bandies (Christmas break).

My last WDW trip was the first week of this month and there was a Dance Competition.

Teens are noisy. In large groups very noisey. But then again so are adults in large groups.

The kids are very excited to be at Disney and so am I when I am there.:D

When I was at the American Adventure this month a massive group of teen girls sat in the first three rows and chatted and chatted until the show started. Then guess what? Yep they were as quiet as everyone else during the show.

These kids spend lots of money which help keep our Parks open.

The key is the chaperons. I saw one lady in charge of about 70-80 girls. They were in front of the American Adventure. When she was going over their itinerary you could have heard a pin drop. When she asked them to move away from the enterance as people were exiting a show they did so at once and quietly.

OK, I put my armor on so I am ready for your replies.:D

As I said.. it isn't really the cheerleaders that get to me if they aren't doing their routines, ect. in inappropriate places, it's the male's REACTION to them which bothers me.

LOL But don't women drool over hot football players, for example, when they are all together! ;) At least I do...It's a human reaction, hahahaha.....

And about cheerleaders acting rude in front of crowds who are trying to have fun too, I like the idea Disney opens the park just for them in the after hours....That's what they did for us when I went.

Like I said before, I don't hate cheerleaders. They go along w/ the football players & other teams that may visit as a group.

The only reason that I sometimes dislike them is when they're in large groups and cheer at inappropriate places. Example: At the hotel, at 3AM (Ungodly!).

Most of them are good, decent teenagers, as someone else mentioned. But, it seems to be human nature to notice the annoying ones.

First of all, anyone here who is or was in a marching band can agree that color guard girls can be just a giggly and girly as cheerleaders.

I was on a band trip as a chaperone a couple of years ago, and i can say that they had their moments in the parks, but generally speaking they were just being teenage girls, not loud chanting, singing and dancing distractions to the rest of the guests.

It is a matter of respect for those around you. Girls can be girls and not be disruptive to other park guests.

Be proud, but be respectful.

Just what I saw.....and my opinion.....

Not all bands have color gaurd (or twirlers/flags whatever you want to call them) and they don't go around the park doing their routines or twirling...

I'd say a great majority of bands have a color guard, but you are right there are some that don't have one. I did not suggest that they go around the parks twiling or doing their routines. I only was saying that from my experience with my band, our color guard is girly and giggly (which doesn't include doing routines or whatever), but they knew how they should act in the parks, even though they were in large groups of girls only.

I have no first hand experience with cheerleaders outside of a football game setting, but the way the our color guard acts (at times) is very much like the way cheerleaeders act, i.e. giggly/girly teenagers.

I'm trying to say, girls will be girls and for that matter (when speaking of a band) boy will be boys. But rules must be set and respect must be given.

Our band is over 180 members and we had 12 chaperones. They were told how they should act, and what the consequences mights be if they got into any sort of trouble or were caught doing something wrong. They were never told not to be them selves (teens), but they knew they shouldn'e act up (or out).

On a 6 day trip, we had one incident, and it was only someone coming back late to the busses. Not bad.

As long as those around them, staff chaperones lay down the law, then some sort of control will hopefully be exhibited. I'd hope to think that if the cheerleading coach (or whatever) would set the rules and conseguences before the trip, the cheerleaders themselves might act a little better.

Again spirit is one thing, respect is another.

I want everyone to have a great time at WDW, just not at the expense of others....

I also have no problem with cheerleaders. Even when I think they are being annoying they are usually just being kids. I'm sure there have been times when others have found me annoying both when I was a teenager and today (OK, I KNOW there have been times :animwink:).

I've run into a lot of people that were more annoying/inconsiderate than most school groups I have encountered. If a group or a person is way out of line (like making a lot of noise at 3AM) then I would complain to the appropriate person(s) (like the hotel management).

I feel sorry for all of you that were there this weekend. My sister use to be an cheerleader and she had a competiton at islands of adventures. it was horrible. i havent been back since. Im going this weekend though. :zipit:

Cheerleaders, Bikers, Baseball Lil Leagues and others that kill the magic

Last April, my ex g/f and I went to Disney for a few days and let me tell you this. It was busy! Between Biker Week in Daytona Beach and all the bikers passing through, cheerleading competitions and their annoying chants, cheers, and high pitched screams, baseball little league players running amuck, and also the fact that I was coming down with the flu didn't exactly make for the most pleasant trip to Disney World.

We wound up staying in Disney for two days (just until my fever broke -- thank God it was a 12 hour fever) and came back home. Because of our miserable experience, Disney wound up crediting us for the remainder of the trip, and since then, I just learned to stay away from Disney between March - May. I'll wait till the weather cools down again before I go back to see "The Mouse."

Right now, its just getting way too hot and humid to go parading around the parks. But, if you're all into hot and humid weather, I hope you all have a good time! :)

Ok.... soooo..... Anyone know when the Cheerleader competitions end? In other words, what are the dates of this competition?

I'm going to WDW next week and if a Spirit Fingers gets waved in my face, I'd really hate to have to break 'em....

That is a joke, by the way... :lookaroun
