Checking in?

We always bring our Disney packet that is send via snail mail. Plus the credit card we paid for the vacation with...plus ids....

Making things easier depends on the person.....we like to get to our hotel REAL early (so we can get to the parks)....the problem is that most of the time, our room isn't ready.....so we leave our bags with the concierge (never had any problems) and come back from the park after lunch or dinner to get into the room......you can call throughout the day to find out your room number, though.....

The way we do things CAN have a flaw.....because we go to get our room so late after the day in the park, if the hotel is booked, it is more difficult to switch rooms if we don't get what we ask for (like 2 queens/doubles instead of a king).....still, we usually go to WDW off season, so we haven't really had any trouble.....

my 2 cents.....

Bring whatever it is that they send you. If you don't get a packet make sure you have your confirmation number and the credit card you used to secure your room.

Tips for making it easier? We've never really had too hard a time checking in. Got there early...no problem and we even got to pick out our own room. Got there mid day...a little busy, but not too long a wait. We've never check in in the late afternoon or evening so I can't really say.

All I ever have needed was my id and credit card. Not sure what else would be needed. Perhaps your room confirmation number just in case they didn't have a record of you but that has never happened to me.

Any tips for checking in with almost 40 people in 10 rooms in August? Uh, I think this Girl Scout leader is starting to stress about this trip~

I'm a little concerned that some of you have mentioned a credit card. I booked my room last April under my master card, but I since had them give me a new number. They cancelled my card and issued a new one. At the time, I called Disney and asked if they needed to make the change in their computer but they told me that it wasn't necessary. So I just hope when I go to check in in a couple months, it doesn't cause a problem that the credit card I have is a different number than the one I booked the room under. :lookaroun

You may want to call and check.....the last couple of trips we've made, Disney required full payment for the trip at least 30?? or 60?? days in advance.....probably worth a phone call.....

I did pay the balance in full a week or so ago, and the check has cleared my bank. I'm still watching my mailbox for my confirmation letter, or whatever else I should get. But like I said, I hope it isn't going to be a problem checking in, if they have it booked under one account number, but I have a new number.

That's something that would probably be best directed to the front desk of the resort you're going to. (I've never checked in with more than two rooms at a time.) The front desk will be able to give you tips on the best time to check in, what you'll need, how long it might take and what they can do for you to make things easier.
You can find your specific hotel's phone number on AllEars:
http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/res_phn.htm

Also, because you'll have 10 rooms, you may fall under the umbrella of Group Sales. (I think the minimum is 8 rooms). Give them a call at 800-327-2989 and see if there's anything they can help you with. (I know they can work with the front desk of a hotel to make sure that all rooms are as close together at a hotel as possible)

You'll be fine. They use whatever credit card you present at check in for incidentals (room charges) or any other remaining balance. They won't use the credit card used to book the reservation if you don't present it. In fact, you can use multiple cards. For example, use one credit card to pay the remaining balance for the room at check-in (normal for room only reservations) and then use another one for incidentals to be charged on check-out day.

If you have paid your package balance in full, you will only need a credit card for the incidentals ~ and that's only if you choose to have that option which includes express check-out.

I also have a checking in question. I am arriving with an hour before my friend and was wondering if I can check in without her or if she needs to be there to sign anything? Thanks.

The only person that needs to sign is any individual (adult, of course) on the resort reservation when it was booked. If you are on it, you should be fine and they should give you both keys at that time. Unless she has a different reservation, you will be considered both checked in.

When you book a package, the terms are payment in full no later than 45 days prior to your arrival. If you ignore this and just decide to show up, you'll show up to no reservation. Of course, they'd contact you before then, I was just giving an absurd example.

When you book room-only, your balance is due when you get there. You can pay with anything you want.

In either case, A CREDIT CARD IS NOT REQUIRED. REPEAT, DISNEY DOESN'T REQUIRE A CREDIT CARD AT CHECK-IN. Many hotels DO require a credit card (or else a large cash deposit), but Disney does not.

The only thing you NEED when you check in is ID. They need to know you are who you say you are. Someone mentioned having your WDTC paperwork would be helpful, and I agree that's a wonderful idea, but it's not an absolute necessity.

Disney DOES need a credit card. They may not ask you for one when you are checking in because they already have your credit card information on file. Every hotel must have your credit card information so if you charge anything to your room or make phone calls, and you don't pay, they can charge your credit card.

Also, make sure you bring that clear package with all the information in it, I find it's easier when you have all that with you. And they usually require it if you're using the Magical Express. I'm sure there are other ways to check you in with that package, but they always ask for it.

Disney DOES NOT need or require a credit card at check-in. You are asked if you would like to leave one on file for charges during your stay. It is not required, it is an option. If you choose not to give a credit card, your room key is encoded with "no charge priviledges", and you will pay as you go by some other means. Also, you will not be eligible for express check-out.

All we have ever checked in with is an ID and our reservation paperwork,we have never used a credit card, we book thru AAA and always pay them with cash so it is paid in full before we arrive. At check in they ask if we want to put a credit card on file. but we never have. we do everything with cash, NO Credit Cards for us.

I'd agree with you, except that you're wrong. :ROFLOL:

You're probably assuming this from your stays at many other hotels in the USA, but WDW resorts simply don't work this way. You're operating on an assumption, I'm operating on fact.

But please don't feel like you have to take my word for it. Call CRO at 1-407-WDISNEY and ask them yourself.

I have to disagree again. DME CMs at the airport and DME drivers at your resort absolutely do not "always ask" guests for their entire clear plastic envelope full of documents. All they need is a voucher, nothing more.

Please, let's have our facts straight! :brick:

I make it easy. I bring everything. Confirmation sheets, credit cards, anything Disney sent in the mail, everything.

My DW bought me a nice little travel folder and I put everything neatly in there. So far, so good.

I agree. I always bring all papers with me just in case.

The only thing I can recommend is going straight to the park if you can and checking in late. We missed most of the crowds we usually get stuck in last month by waiting 'till after the park and dinner (about 10pm). You can check in any time from 3pm to 11am the next day.
