IS there a cheapest time to go to WDW, generally speaking? (It's ALWAYS expensive, but is there a lesser expensive time...haha)

You may want to consider the cost of airfare if your not in driving range. That can add up fast.
Oh yes, definitely! We're from Colorado and flying can be SUPER expensive! We're at $1600 for this flight from CO/FL in Sept. Makes you wince when you think of all the awesome Disney stuff you could buy....HAHA

Generally the cheapest times to go are when people are not traveling (lower airfares) and when Disney is offering discounts. I'd think September (after Labor Day), January (except New Years & MLK Birthday), or early to mid December would be the cheapest times to go but am shocked you're at $1600 for Sept. If you've never done WDW during the holidays then I'd strongly recommend early December. WDW is awesome decorated! Check out the following link for historical data:

Ha! I would have to say just less expensive. :) hee hee Seriously though, you can go rather cheaply if you hit free dining and stay at a value resort. Look for these discounts - they are generally when people don't travel often. i.e. September, is a good time to go b/c everyone has just gone back to school. Also, early December, before everyone travels for the Holidays. There are loads of lists (previous posters have given you the links) that show you prices and dates for the rooms. Now tix prices will remain the same.

I am so surprised you can't get cheaper travel in September. Check to see if the flight price went down and depending on your carrier, you can get a credit with the airline for the lower price. We did that and we have almost a free ticket now via AirTran b/c the flights went down so much.

I have traveled to WDW in April (just after Easter) - the prices were not "lower" yet but the crowds were. It was also still Flower and Garden. I have been in May - and got an amazing room only rate for the GF when my mom and I went for one night/2 days - crowds were low too as it was mid week before Memorial Day. I have been in June - hard to assess the price b/c we were traveling with the Buy 4 get 3 Free deal (ahhh...I loved that deal!) - the crowds were low b/c it was before school got out, just at the beginning of June. And I have been in October, November and December. In October, it was low cost and low crowds. November, I traveled on a Pin Code prior to Thanksgiving, staying through Thanksgiving - so quite inexpensive and low crowds before the holiday. And December, we didn't stay on property so I can't speak to that but it was the week prior to Christmas and the crowds were moderate. This trip is our first in September and it is ridiculous how inexpensive it is - staying at a Moderate Resort with free dining for 10 days! :)

We're going the first week in September, and that is a value season time... plus we got free dining (yep- paid rack rate for the room, but rack rate in value season is much better than rack rate during the holidays!) The value seasons tend to be after the holidays until President's Day, late August until late Sept/early Oct, and late Nov/early Dec. Crowds are down, rates are cheaper. And, YES... for some unknown reason flying from CO to MCO is crazy expensive... but check out Frontier and Southwest if leaving from DIA. We got some really great rates on both of those (for past trips and the one coming up)

Best time I have found so far is the week after the WDW marathon weekend. You sometimes get to see some of the Christmas Decor and if you like deals, they usually have free dining during that time.

1486 for four of us and DD27 coming in and leaving for a weekend only visit was another 376.... I looked for a month watching direct flight prices on the days that worked for us and the best I found was 177 one way on SW.. I would have taken a 1 stop if I could have saved but even those were at this price or higher for my dates:(
