Character meet and greets at Epcot?!

I love seeing the characters in World Showcase. Bumping into Mulan in China, Snow White in Germany, Mary Poppins in the United Kingdom, etc is neat. :D

I like it too and it also helps keep the children interested in the tour plus you can get some beautiful back ground shots with them & the characters.

Times change, and so do guest expectations.

EPCOT, IMO, originally appealed primarily to adults, but COULD be enjoyed by whole familes. When I visited with my parents right after EPCOT opened (I was 30 something, with no children) my mother remarked "This is the Magic Kingdom for grownups."

WDW is only responding to changes in society as a whole, which means making more and more activities child friendly, since adults have less time to spend with their children, at the same time they are being told that they have to spend more. Anyone my age knows that "spend more quality time with your children" wasn't at the top of Mom & Dad's to-do list, at least not when their children were young. Perhaps it should have been.

Some of us will think the change is for the better, some will think it's for the worse; it all depends upon our individual situation, phase in life, or personal outlook.

Having been to EPCOT back in the day... I understand the OPs point. That being said every park has and will continue to change to fit the guests needs. That being said I never did enjoy the original Living Seas as much as I enjoy it now. Maybe it is because I have kids now. I am with you on Journey, Horizons, and Communicore. Back to the characters... I have to say I don't mind seeing the characters in WS as it fits in with their story/theme. The new building you are talking about I agree 100% with you. I mean FAB FIVE and the other main characters(Chip ,Dale and such) could stay out of EPCOT.
