Character assault

The characters will be terminated if they fight back. There are ways to get back at violent guests. They may not be visible to most people, but there are ways to do it. They don't want to lose their job either, like the previous poster said.

All the characters I know only want to make a special memory for the people that are visiting them. When someone pulls a punch on Pooh it can really upset them and make for a terrible day.

What is wrong with people? I can't understand why people behave like this, and I have started to realise that the people who do it don't know either - when you talk to these people and ask what they were thinking, you often find that is the problem - they don't or can't think. They clearly come from the shallow end of the gene pool and there isn't much upstairs.

I live near Sesame Place and a few years back a man was arrested for assaulting Cookie Monster. Can you imagine the kids all around watching Cookie Monster get beat up? Here is a quote from the article
"Last summer, while on vacation at Sesame Place, McPhatter, a student at the Citadel, was a bit miffed when Cookie Monster, played by Jennie McNelis that day, wouldn’t take a picture with his daughter Mina. So, McPhatter punched Cookie Monster in the mouth and knocked her down. She spent two months in physical therapy, and he will spend one year under probation."

People need to follow mom's advise, and "keep their hands to themselves!"

Why do some people have such little self esteem that they think beating up a costumed character from behind will make them cool (in Pooh's case)?
Sad.

And if the character defends themselves they run the risk of losing their job.

without as much as an investigation from the company...

I know people that to this day aren't fully "abled" to do damage caused by bratty kids and their incompetent parents, and by people who aren't fit to live in modern society.

I hope the poor soul in the costume wasn't hurt. I should think the main cause of injury would be loosing your balance and falling down, not the blow to the head.

Not to make light of the subject, but considering the heat down here and the time spent in the suit. How and how often is the interior of the costume cleaned and does it stink regardless?

there is just no excuse for idiots like that. what if children saw that what would they think? would they think its what you should do to people in costume.

if i saw someone doing that i would say something to them and report it-i hate bullies, there is just no need for it. people go to disney to have a pleasant experience not to watch some di****** thinking hes a big man because he hits a character.

but unfortunatley you get good and bad people everywhere and sometimes the bad people slip through.

To everyone who said they would hit back....thanks, but don't do it. It would ruin your vacation to come up on charges for defending the characters. Best thing for anyone to do in the situation is to get a detailed description of the person and the general direction they were heading and contact security. And security DOES act if they see it happen...after they make sure the Character is ok. Having worked at Disney and that other park down I-4, Disney does handle these situations better.....

Just my nickle's worth.....

How immature! Unfortunately, a lot of teenage and college boys think this is a funny thing to do because the guys on that show "Jackass" do it. And it is actually semi-amusing when the guy in the costume is just one of their friends. It also made me think of the scene with the Barney-type character on the movie, "Nine Months". That was hilarious.

But Disney World is sacred! How dare they mess with Pooh! I would be so mad if my child, or any child, witnessed that assault. Someday that person will think of what they did and feel really bad. If I were Pooh, I'd march right over to a cm and tell them what happened to him, and demand he be ejected from the park.

Reminds me of a couple years ago at that baseball game - I think there were about 5 girls dressed in costume as sausages and had a race around the ball field and some idiot baseball player slugged the one girl in the head with his baseball bat!! I believe she pressed charges and everything...

Poor Pooh!! I can imagine this probably happens pretty regularly but its still WRONG! I'm a preschool teacher and I try and teach the children not to kick and hit - and even so I have felt more than my fair share of little fists and feet :p Then to grow up and do this to a beloved character... its really sad thats all...

I understand what you are saying but when it's my friend and a very good one for that fact it's hard to say I wouldn't do anything. I probably would drag the idiot in front of the character and make him apologize to the character in front of the guests. Then I would call the police and file a citizens arrest.

I talked to my friend today and the one who hit Pooh got away. Disney didn't do anything and the guy wasn't kicked out, at least to her knowledge. He got away.

I used to be very good friends with Pluto and Eeyore, and I can tell you that this stuff happens pretty regularly. Pluto and Eeyore both took their share of hard hits. And Rafiki had a guest tell him "It doesn't matter! It's in the past!" and then punch him in the head and run. As others have mentioned, outright defending yourself only leads to termination. But a word of advice: don't pigpile and pound on Eeyore when he's carrying an umbrella, because you might accidentally knock it around and hit someone else in the melee. :goodnevil

It's not so different here at SeaWorld. When I was good friends with Shamu, I can't tell you how many times he was beat up on or shoved around. Of course, SeaWorld isn't Disney, and we've got some character escorts that will put rowdy guests in their place... :goodnevil :D
