News Chapek FIRED, Iger New CEO

Just a comment because this is the best thread for it.

So far it seems Chapek has two modes. Stomp on the brake for some projects and hit the accelerator on others. For example, if an attraction needs more than a day or two maintenance, keep it off line to fix as much as possible going into peak demand of the 50th. Also speed up projects like Rat and Tron and the castle. Strictly conjecture but it looks like he may be more involved in the day to day than Iger. Time will tell.

LOL, yes you did. :p.
I'm probably the only one here not following along. Recovering from knee replacement. Got the good happy drugs.

Where's the stock at?
I keep getting alerts from Marketwatch saying it's under $105 per share. That was my "interest level" two weeks ago.

Now my interest level is $75 per share.
Get well, Liz

It’s at $95...down 35% from the 2/26 price.

By the way...if the market continues to fall and full recession kicks in...the stock will fall to the $40’s.

Don’t believe me? How do I know? I’m CRAZY!!!??

I remember telling all my co-workers to buy at $15 a share... they did.

I didn't... sigh.

Looks like you'll have another chance to buy at a low. Hopefully nothing like 15. They have some economic insurance with ESPN streaming and Disney+ this time.

Thanks!!
This will be a very interesting recession also. Very different than 2008. I am surprised ( or maybe not) that Disney has not put out a public statement of how they are handling covid 19 beer virus.

Now here's what will be interesting, will this lead to a change in management style for the mouseworld??

Bobby Iger has lost so much in this market drop I saw him flipping burgers at McD just to make ends meet
Lol ironically John, my oldest bro is a retired Mickey D's franchise owner. Owned 2 of them for a long time and finally retired in 2012.

Lol they make big bucks 😂 in a recession, seems like mentally we like our comfort foods in hard times so ole Bob at least knows where to go.

Go figure.

I had stated in an earlier post that it seemed like something was fixing to go down at Disney with Iger all of a sudden stepping down now instead of finishing out his contract. At first I wondered if it had something to do with Disney cooking the books, since the SEC is supposedly investigating right now and it's been hushed from the media. Then I wondered did it have to do with Star Wars doing poorly and we all know about that. Don't have to get into it. But now I think it's this coronavirus. I think he knew that the parks--ALL of them--are going to have to shut down eventually as is other public venues are doing at the moment, and he knew it was gonna hurt Disney and he doesn't want to be around for it. He's getting out now, which shows the kind of person he is. Either way I think Disney is going to be hurting financially for a while. We're only seeing the beginning of it. I love DW but even I question why I keep going there. They've already lost business from people that were repeat customers who either can't afford it now or just simply choose to not pay the exorbitant prices.
All of your hypotheses have some merit

but ding dang it, those fries are like crack. gotta have em.

so this is going to be an interesting watch. right now, this is all going down because of fear. panic over a virus. If we get a hold of it before say June, will the mouse world have huge problems?? don't know. They will blame any and all loses on the beer flu, whether or not the investors buy it will be the question.

I posted a question on the trip planning boards and so far most folks are planning to keep the course as far as going to disney as long as they stay open.

right now we don't have the huge job loss or long term uncertainty that we had in 2008. Princess cruise line is suspending their boats for 2 months and the NBA is cancelling their season which will hit a small segment

The problem is how flat footed the response has been.

We have done 11,000 tests in a month...total.

So it’s a huge catch 22...ramp up the tests and you find a lot more cases and scare everyone with the numbers...ignore it and you are guaranteed more spread/bad cases.

Disney is completely helpless to this type of threat. They are travel, movies and PR dependent...that’s probably 50% of their business...the other 50% boils down to their ability to move product and charge for their advertising might in that regard.

This is what has me flabbergasted about their non response. Man you'd think they would have the pr people assuring guest that they are hosing down every inch of the park 10 times a day. I haven't seen anything. airlines have been tweeting, twaating, singing and texting all the live long day.

Next interesting mark will be their hourly employees. I'm here in Pa and currently legislation is trying to cobble something together so thatt the lower pay guywithout paid time off, will get paid if they have to stay home due to Covid. be nice if the mouse world made similar move

Hey forgot to add. be well folks. wash them hands no matter where you go.

Been following...we did that across the river two days ago.

There’s a fight brewing on that in DC right now...breaking news. It escalated quickly

We keep hearing complaints that enough testing has not occurred. My question is when was a reliable test developed that that was accurate and had a low false negative and approved by the CDC. My point is it takes time to develop a test and run tests to confirm it works get it approved and then get it manufactured.

So this is my understanding and since I hopped up on oxycodone take it with a grain of salt.
Evidently we have had some type of corona virus around for the last 25 years. this strain they believe is a mutation of the sars and mers virus. They also do have the antibodies from folks who have had mild cases of covid 19.
FDA gave an emergency by past I think on 2/20 for public health laboratories to do covid 19 testing.
I'm not sure the accuracy.

They are a year away form vaccinations as a best case scenario...the health officials have not waivered...the clueless have.

I’m not sure if they even know exactly where the testing is? Congress was given a briefing they went nuts about - both sides - which was IMMEDIATELY contradicted by the bully pulpit just after.

Disney? Have to be leaning towards shut down - my hunch.

I realize an actual vaccination for covid-19 is probably a year off pending clinical trials once one is available. My original question was concerning the test to determine whether or not you have been exposed and have antibodies to the virus

The odds are extremely thin at this point if you haven't traveled overseas recently.

PS- everyone needs to just not panic and wash their hands often and it might fade out.
