I think the Board called him to ask him to come back it wasn't him wanting to come back.

He was the executive chairman of the Board.
When he retired he was retired he could have said no thanks and continued sailing around on his 200 ft mega yacht

He wasn't retired; he just wasn't CEO. He was still the executive chairman of the Disney Board of Directors.
Odd, that Iger himself quotes on being briefly retired in a Wall Street interview.

He may have considered himself retired since he wasn't the CEO, but you're not really retired if you're serving as the executive chair on a board. He certainly wasn't out of the loop.

Did he leave completely?
I know he stepped down as executive chair at the end of 2021 but for some reason I thought he was still serving on the board after; just not as executive chair. Maybe not!

He was so retired that he kept his office and all the furnishings
He is not the first CEO of any company to give misleading info and he certainly won’t be the last.

I'm beginning to think the guy is pathological.
Odd that during the annual shareholder meeting during Q&A there are not many difficult questions to ask Iger by the company shareholders.
