Chapek and D'Amaro continue the tradition of no bonus or Christmas gift for Disney's Cast Members

Working holidays is an additional challenge. Double time is really the least they can do. Just like how overnight workers often make slightly more per hour even if there not doing any more work. They are being compensated for an irregular work schedule. Dont traveling nurses make a killing? Is it because they save more lives? Or it is because its alot harder from a life style point of view. When you sacrifice things above and beyond what the norm is i believe you deserve recognition.

The norm should be to treat people well...not meet the bare minimum standard.....you can run a profitable business and be a successful buisness owner and still recognize what is most important.
I've got family that are RNs. They love their schedule, 3 day work week 530am-6pm , followed by 4 days off every week. I would prefer that schedule.

I didn't say the "same way" i meant period. CEOs get millions a front line worker might get a 25 dollar gift card. But there should be some expectation on holidays and or irregular hours. Safety is the bare minimum. Oh thank god you dont kill your engineers in your oil refinery (eye roll) but it must just kill you inside to even think maybe the christmas shift could get a little extra fluff.

How much money did disney make being open on christmas?
And hell im a conservative and feel this way....humanity is amazingly ubdervalued. Keep up the status que your doing well.
So I am confused?? Did they not get paid?? What fluff?? No I did not expect any thing but what was spelled out in my contract that determined what I would get. I'm not an entitled person, I never thought because BP made a billion dollars I should get "extra" for showing up. 🤔 there was no mystery to my paycheck. Now I started out with a union and our rates were negotiated.
Again I've never gotten a Christmas bonus, my direct supervisor does take us out to lunch and I took out my staff but we certainly never thought the company owed us something "extra" because they were open?
It doesn't kill me if my staff or someone else gets paid, not sure what that was supposed to imply but neither am I going to paint a company as some villain because they don't give out bonuses.
I wonder what would have made people happy?

I used to work for a company that did a forced "employees only" Christmas party. They made it a point every year at the party to say it was for Christmas, which while a private company perfectly within their rights, but pretty obnoxious to the one very Jewish employee, let alone any others who may not subscribe to the same religion if any.
They did do bonuses then (most years), but also had the nerve to only hand them out at the party...as in no show, no bonus and also adding to everyone as they handed out named envelopes that there are different bonus amounts for different people so not to disclose lest someone's feelings get hurt. Everyone got the same amount, and they also hung it over everyone that they weren't sure there would be bonuses, which made planning for Christmas gifts difficult.
These were in the thousands of dollars, so when we didn't get a bonus, it was like a significant pay cut.
The amazing thing is that in our best year in sales and profit In 12 years and everyone knew it, they didn't give a bonus, but there were certainly new leased cars for a select few.
The end of year uncertainty is not missed.

Do you know that one of the peak seasons of WDW is from 12/25-31? Not everyone is home roasting marshmallows on an open fire...

I am a retired Disney Cast member and I use to receive free tickets and other discounts to use at the parks. For the last two years I have received nothing. I was wondering what happened. It looks like Disney is just getting cheap and does not care about the people who worked there. I still have my lifetime tickets, but since the pandemic I have not visited the parks. Disney seems to have lost its charm.

Did you have to attend? You imply that it was "forced"... Typically, Chanukah is from late November to early December. Was the party during that time? The majority celebrate Christmas at this time of year. If you're in majority Islamic country, it's expected that they'd likely not celebrate Christmas. Rather, they would set time aside to celebrate Ramadah. Interestingly, I've noticed Asian countries celebrate Christmas areligously, focusing on Santa Claus and other traditions associated with the holiday. This is true in the US as well.

Seems that one is looking to be offended when they're boss is setting time aside for team building, even offering an end-of-year bonus. Note, a bonus is just that; something you didn't plan on getting. If you're depending on it, it has a different meaning for you.

It's like people using their tax refund as a savings account then planning on spending when it comes. What??

For what it is worth and it is a great perk you have and deserved , you still have your lifetime free parks entry for yourself and family/friends.

Being compensated accordingly is a thing....a surgeon has specific skills and what? 8 years of school? Hes compensated. Sure its not apples to apples but being compensated because you work christmas etc isn't that hard. Its the right thing to do.
That’s why we get double pay on holidays and a floating holiday to use later for a paid day off. It’s not a surprise in hospitality that you’ll probably work holidays.

Seems like if you wanted the bonus, you were forced to attend the party. That company sounds like it was run by sociopaths.

"No show, no bonus." It says so right in the post.
ah, I missed that. Thanks for pointing it out. If you're on salary and your boss says you must attend a mandatory meeting, you attend. If it was optional and you don't attend, you don't HAVE to get the bonus. Ditto for attending; you didn't have to accept the bonus if it was so demeaning.

People still get bonuses in Christmas gifts from their employers? I have not gotten a Christmas bonus or gift in my entire 20-year career working for various companies.

At my current employer we get a Christmas bonuses, the company has about one thousand employees so probably cost them a bit. This is the first and only place to ever provide me with any holiday bonus since I began working 18 years ago. Also, I'm a nurse practitioner so the pharmaceutical reps, other specialists offices that I refer patient's too and patients themselves give things to me for Christmas. They usually consist of gift baskets, high-end chocolates, gift cards etc.

If you work a typical 8-5pm day, any time after that is your personal time, hence, the company has no say in what you do. "Mandatory" only applies to work hours.
