Changing hotel reservation

We are booked to stay at the GF in Sept, we stayed there in 2008 and loved it, in 2010 we stayed at the Poly and decided to go back to the GF this year as we preferred it.

But now with all the refurbs I don't think I can stay, I only ate at Gasperillas, I don't enjoy sit down restaurants, I loved having a dip in the courtyard pool, I also liked the Sand cove shop, we also booked a lagoon view and we are worried about the DVC site.

I know other alternatives will be laid out at the GF but I feel like I will be staying at a resort I've spent 2 years saving for and most of it will be shut!

I don't want to ruin my good memories of the GF.

We are thinking of returning to the Poly instead, but there will probably be guests from the GF using these facilities as well! I've read the Poly pool will also be available to GF guests as well!

We're lost as to what to do, our treasured trip has changed and there's nothing we can do about it, sorry for wallowing but 2 hours ago my trip seemed perfect!

Anyway! How do we go about transferring to another resort? Do we have to pay just to change? How easy is this to do?

Thanks. :(

Crush Dude!

Best thing to do is ring WDW UK, WDW US will not be able to do anything to your ressie!

We were just talking about how disgusted we would be if we had saved to stay there and half the resort was shut down! Terrible!!

I would definately call Disney, tell them you'd like to change resorts, and tell them why (I certainly dont blame you). The Poly, as you know has 2 pools. My guess would be that families with children, would be using the volcano pool. (Quiet pool is actually very nice too, have gotten food from Capt. Cooks and enjoyed lunch by the pool) Me personally, would stay at the Poly, however, Boardwalk is a very good choice. There's also the Contemporary, if you wanted to be close to the monorail. Don't be upset, you will work it out, and still enjoy your vacation, and you have your wdwmagic brothers and sisters here to help in any way we can :)

The Poly is the likely option but at the moment I can't get over the fact our plans probably have to change, I want to stay at the GF but I want it perfect!!! Luckily I've got 8 weeks to get used to a different plan. Thanks for the kind words Deb. :)

Another good idea crush! The WL is our choice of resort for our 2014 trip, we are discussing this as a possible. We can't quite take it in yet, we are feeling very sorry for ourselves ! We will enjoy our trip no matter what! Thanks. :)

You are so much like me, but it's a temporary bump in the road, and although you may not have the vacation you thought you would, you have many viable options. I am a major Poly fan, but, go thru Youtube videos, of the other resorts suggested. Perhaps this could be a blessing in disguise!!!! Good luck darlin!

once you chill out, re-group and recover, consider this an opportunity. yes GF is great. but so are other resorts. we have made it our goal to do all of them eventually because we don't have a favorite. each is different and unique. take this change as an opportunity to experience something new.
i also am a big fan of wilderness lodge. like GF main building it is large and impressive. you will just stand in the lobby slack-jawed- staring. it has boat transportation to MK- a major deal for us, and a great pool, i think one of the best on property. the grounds are far more impressive than GF, and several nice restaurants, and no invasion by the displaced GF folks.
i say go for something new, don't be disappointed, be enthusiastic and you will love the place. it will still be perfect!

At some point I hope to think positively about this but it's not happening yet, but you are right. Thanks xx

the WL was going to be our choice for 2014, at the moment I feel like its a big leap to do it now instead, if I don't stay at the GF now I don't think we will be able to return another time. :( I feel I'm making a big out of this! WL definitely an option. Thanks.

EUREKA!!

I think I've come to my senses, I think we are going to change to the WL!!!! It was my resort for 2014, plus it's cheaper than the GF so I may use the remaining money to book a special view, which is courtyard ????

I know I won't feel the same about the GF if I turn up and it's not perfect, too much effort has gone into saving for 2 years for it to be ruined!

We will wait a few days to do anything official just so we're sure. But I think this is the right thing to do, I'm excited but also sad!

I'm so sorry!! I would be really upset if that happened to me and I definitely would change our reservations. We are staying at Poly in Sept. and I'm upset also because I know this will affect Poly too, but I defintiely would not pay all that money for GF if half of it will be closed and a construction zone. Shame on Disney for doing this to guests only weeks before they start refurbs. Disney is well aware far ahead of time when they plan on doing refurbs. When you book they should be upfront and let people know they will be doing refurbs at that time. Instead they just announce this weeks before??? SHAME ON YOU Disney!!

If you're looking for a back up special vacation, I'd suggest club level at the Yacht Club. It was the most magical experience ever for us and would probably be about as much as a regular room at the GF.

Oh no! I am sorry I don't know anything when it comes to how things work overseas and booking. But I too recommend Wilderness if you can. It may not be GF but I enjoy the boat ride to the Kingdom and love the location...Fingers crossed something works out for you. I would dif say that has to be so frustrating.

We had a woodlands view at WL last month and it was nice. We were on the side closest to MK so we could see some of the Wishes fireworks through the woods and there was a small pond below our balcony. I think the courtyard view looks out onto the pool, which would be nice to look out but possibly noisy.

I'm sorry your plans have be ruined and you have to rethink everything!
