Changing hotel reservation

We are booked to stay at the GF in Sept, we stayed there in 2008 and loved it, in 2010 we stayed at the Poly and decided to go back to the GF this year as we preferred it.

But now with all the refurbs I don't think I can stay, I only ate at Gasperillas, I don't enjoy sit down restaurants, I loved having a dip in the courtyard pool, I also liked the Sand cove shop, we also booked a lagoon view and we are worried about the DVC site.

I know other alternatives will be laid out at the GF but I feel like I will be staying at a resort I've spent 2 years saving for and most of it will be shut!

I don't want to ruin my good memories of the GF.

We are thinking of returning to the Poly instead, but there will probably be guests from the GF using these facilities as well! I've read the Poly pool will also be available to GF guests as well!

We're lost as to what to do, our treasured trip has changed and there's nothing we can do about it, sorry for wallowing but 2 hours ago my trip seemed perfect!

Anyway! How do we go about transferring to another resort? Do we have to pay just to change? How easy is this to do?

Thanks. :(

I'm so sorry!! I would be really upset if that happened to me and I definitely would change our reservations. We are staying at Poly in Sept. and I'm upset also because I know this will affect Poly too, but I defintiely would not pay all that money for GF if half of it will be closed and a construction zone. Shame on Disney for doing this to guests only weeks before they start refurbs. Disney is well aware far ahead of time when they plan on doing refurbs. When you book they should be upfront and let people know they will be doing refurbs at that time. Instead they just announce this weeks before??? SHAME ON YOU Disney!!
I couldn't agree with you more. Thanks
We had a woodlands view at WL last month and it was nice. We were on the side closest to MK so we could see some of the Wishes fireworks through the woods and there was a small pond below our balcony. I think the courtyard view looks out onto the pool, which would be nice to look out but possibly noisy.

I'm sorry your plans have be ruined and you have to rethink everything!

I love the look of WL, the woodlands view would not be the end of the world, but it would be good for something to work in my favour at the moment! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks

I have to agree with this, despite the charge to switch resorts, you would wind up paying for amenities you couldn't use anyway at the GF. WL is cheaper than the GF, perhaps the cost difference would absorb the cost for changing resorts??? I would certainly let Disney know you aren't happy and it certainly doesn't seem fair. Like I said in an earlier post, I would switch to the Poly (which is my fav resort anyway) despite it being a bit busier. I am sure you will work it all out, and have a wonderful vacation.

New update Fuming!

It would appear if we change resorts we would lose the free DDP and $300 free Disney dollars.

As it will be classed as a re-booking and the offer isn't available at this time.

I'm disgusted and now feel the Disney magic has gone and this would probably be our last WDW holiday

Remember to keep things in perspective. Not everything at the resort will be closed while you are there, and you won't be spending 100% of your time at the resort.

While I understand your frustration, and hope that something a little more fair can be done to resolve your situation, it's important not to over react.

Virgin Atlantic. I'm gutted, I'm not prepared to lose the offers we were given when we booked so we will stay at the GF. Our holiday will VA cost £9,500 and this is the treatment we get.

We will fight as much as possible though.

Yeah I get what your saying, feelings are raw at the moment as my WDW bubble has been burst. I guess my gripe is more with my TA then Disney itself but the situation is so unjust.

I would continue trying to work with Virgin, to attempt to contact Disney on your behalf to see if Disney would do something for you. If that fails, I would try contacting Disney directly to explain the situation and see if you have any luck that way.

I certainly hope they are able to do something better than the "too bad" response you're getting at this point.

Thanks, it's so frustrating! We've booked 3 hotels for a 24 day holiday, we only want to change 1 resort due to too many issues which are beyond our control and Virgin class it as 're-booking'!

Many phone calls will be made! But unfortunately they have got us over a barrel, we don't want to lose approx $1,000 of free food and $300 of free purchases!

With only 8 weeks to go we were euphoric about our trip, at the moment it's slightly tainted!

Thanks.

My OH has spoken to our TA, there will be a £35 per person charger for transfering! Plus our TA are'nt allocated 'courtyard' views, only 'woodland'.

i'm confused. obviously don't know how foreign country booking works...........but you can certainly just go to disneyworld website and book directly and get any view you desire. disney does not have a cancellation fee for cancelling anything this far out so you shouldn't pay a fee there either. and disney certainly doesn't charge a transfer fee as there is no transferring, you just cancel old and make new.

are these things not available to you over there? if so, that indeed does stink

OH MY GOD!!! I'm so sorry for you! That is ridiculous!! I wonder why you cant just call WDW directly? I guess it's different in England?? Try to call WDW directly its worth a shot. Complain, Complain, Complain, even when you get there, make a big stink about it, I'm sure once you get there Disney might give you some perks (hopefully). I'm so sorry, well, maybe I will see you at the over crowded Poly pool  since we will be staying at Poly.

We booked a package holiday with Virgin Atlantic, WDW allocates a certain number of rooms to travel agencies. Virgin have not got any courtyard views available to them. WDW resorts do not get your details until about a week beforehand so we can ring the resort just before our trip and see if there are any rooms available then, we can't book courtyard at the moment.

Virgin charge a £35 admin fee.

Hope this helps!

ANOTHER BLOODY UPDATE!!!

My OH has spoke to someone at VA again, here's there reasoning this time.

We MAY not be entitled to the free DDP as it may not apply to the resort we want to change too, BUT we are moving from Deluxe to another Deluxe so I don't see why it wouldnt apply.

They are unsure if we are still entitled to the free Disney dollars either, we ave to call back tomorrow when a supervisor is around.

To speculate I think we may end up with the DDP but not the $$$$. I won't accept this as this was the offer when we booked!!!!

I would probably just keep things as is so you don't risk losing anything (DDP & $$$), and when you actually get there make a huge stink about it!! Be relentless with your complaining, even over do it. Demand to be moved to a different hotel or get a discount, speak to the manager, go above them if you have to. From my experience working in customer service, it was always the customer who was relentless and persistant and did not stop until they finally got what they wanted. Unfortunately you shouldn't have to be doing this on your vacation, but it's really not fair, and you've paid thousands of dollars to have the amenities that come with the GF.

While I would suggest bringing it up when you get there, I wouldn't suggest going this route, certainly not off the bat. A firm, but polite, complaint about the issues is far more likely to get you something than causing a scene and demanding compensation for what amounts to more inconveniences. Remember, they aren't closing all of the restaurants at the resort, or both pools at the same time, so it's not that they are completely shutting out guests from all of the services.

Being persistent is a good thing, going overboard and making a huge stink can backfire.

I completely agree, hopefully we'll get there and find things are ok. I like your thinking, we've paid a lot for amenities we can't use.
