Changes to bus transportation for the water parks begins this weekend

I can't believe anyone will defend this. Baffling really.

If you want to improve guest experience you don't just shuffle the inconvenience off on a smaller group, you find a way to remove the inconvenience.

The correct way to do this is to have dedicated busses. No awkward transfers or anything. Just get on a bus and it goes where the sign says. That's for great guest experience. That's what's expected from on-site hotels.

If this move wasn't for guest experience, than you should be even less likely to support it. No cost cutting measure should negatively effect anyones trip so far as to cost them and extra HALF HOUR of their time BY DESIGN. Are you kidding?!?!?!

They can't remove ANY buses from the resort routes. They are going to still going to be going to AK and DS, so how can they possibly remove any?
Sure they can. A bus from your resort to DAK to BB and back is probably a 45-minute loop. Cutting BB shortens that loop by about 10 min. Across 15 or so routes. You can have fewer buses because travel time is shortened and there are fewer people on those buses anyway. And all they have to add is probably two buses to/from each water park.

You really dont get the corporate loyalty for everyones favourite media giant. They could defecate in your room and some on here would say its a free gift of organic plant food and the mouse is being a great benefactor. There is nothing the mouse can do that will make them question their loyalty. Its how cults operate.

I don't think it's about defending anything.

AK (and the other parks) open before 10 am. If the transportation schedule stayed the way it was before...there would be absolutely 0 people on the buses in the morning going to the water parks because the water parks wouldn't be open...everyone would be headed to the parks.

This process basically makes AK the main "hub" to get to BB. This is an inconvenience, but it shouldn't ruin anyone's vacation. Just give yourself a bit more time and there won't be any issues; or as others have stated...rent a car. Is it an inconvenience to have to park at Fort Wilderness and then take a bus to get back to Trail's End to eat? Yes. Is it that big of a deal to the point where my vacation is ruined? No.

I wonder how many more residents will now park their car at BB to hitch a free ride to the gate of AK now...

I get some people did this before, but the thing is, you never knew if the bus was going to AK or coming from it (unless you knew the bus system well). Now, all buses will be going to AK. That could backfire unless they plan to manage parking more at BB.

EDIT: Disclaimer, I have an AP and get free parking at the theme parks, so I'm not talking about myself.

Then have the busses pass up the water parks before 9:30ish? Or have dedicated water park busses?

A huge part of the on-site resorts is the "easy transportation". I don't stay at on-site hotels so that I can "give myself some extra time" to get to the parks. No one does. It's literally the opposite. Walk out my room, bus takes me to park. Done.

This is an inconvenience, but...

BUT NOTHING. "This is an inconvenience", so it shouldn't be happening. No ifs, ands, or buts. A Disney vacation is enough of an undertaking and making anything more complicated is a bad job on their part. That's how they keep people on-site.
Disney resorts = they handle the hard stuff for you. Show up and have fun.

At least thats what they tell me when I hand over hundreds of dollars a night...

Still not convinced?
What's that written beneath each resort on the main resort page??? The very first thing they tell you is how easy it is to get from your prospective resort to the parks.

you are prob just better off grabbing a taxi or Uber. you can get on right from the resort bell desk and it will be there in 5 minutes tops. cost will prob be under $15.

We use taxis more and more b/c of the unpredictability of the disney transports.
I thought about that, but there are 5 of us, and I wasn't sure if there would be vehicles big enough for us without having to wait forever.

We are headed there this weekend and this is our first visit without a car...and boy am I starting to dread that decision. Park to Park transportation has become the biggest 'magic killer' at the resort for me. They need an overall overhaul of the system and the routes.

That's my feeling as well. The "well, if you don't like it, rent a car" answer rubs me the wrong way. Yes, of course that's an option, and many people staying on property do it. But that's not an insignificant expense. Even taxis and Ubers add up if you're doing them regularly.

Disney specifically advertises the convenience of their transportation system as one of the perks of staying on property. And for many of us, it is a *huge* benefit. It's part of what justifies the premium people are willing to pay for the Disney resorts. To make it significantly less convenient for a large chunk of guests is unacceptable. To shrug it off with "well, then, rent a car," completely misses the point.

It just seems a little tacky to make guests wait at bus stops outside of their resorts with their pool stuff.

I have an idea, but it could take away the spontaneousness of WDW transportation. Have busses arrive at resorts at hourly intervals excluding opening/closing. That may not save them much though...

Didn't some routes go to two locations? Like the same bus would go to blizzard beach and AK? If that were the case I guess this makes sense anyways.

Well this is pretty dumb...

Going to be pretty silly for Blizzard Beach guests staying at Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, AoA, Coronado Springs, and All Stars. You'll drive right by the water park going to AK just to circle back to it.

Edited for water park switch.

If you're staying at Coronado and don't have a car, you'd be better off *walking* to Blizzard Beach.

There are some things that the water parks don't have that the parks do have.

Three figure daily admission.
Table service dining.
Gift shops at the end of attractions (or gift shops even near the attractions).

And for those guests who don't have Mouse Arrest Bands, they are experiencing attractions without having the means to buy anything on their person.

I wouldn't be surprised if making it more inconvenient for guests to go to water parks wasn't seen by TDO as a *positive*.
