YES!!!!!!!!! Finally a bigger place in the parks where you can meet and greet with characters. I was worried that we might get a nice new E-ticket, but this idea is so much better. But I don't know if this area is going to be big enough to hold all the characters they need. Maybe, if we're lucky, they can get rid of Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain and they could have an EVEN BIGGER meet and greet area. That's probably too much to ask for though.

Seriously though I can't believe this. All of this prime real estate is going to be wasted on a Meet and Greet? The next thing you know they'll be wanting to put a shop in the Timekeeper waiting area :lookaroun

You know, you may be on to something... Disney already owns sooooo many characters.... there's hardly any space already if we are to meet and greet ALL of them! And now that Disney owns the Muppets.... you know it, a much larger meet and greet area really would be neccessary! Just Animal (from the Muppets) alone would require about an acre, with all the running around he does.....

:D

How about The Matterhorn, though probably not enough space.

WDW is getting is own version of Matterhorn... It's called Expedition Everest, and will be a million times better than Matterhorn. In fact, it will make Matterhorn look like Goofy's Barnstomer!

This "its a small world Rehab" really interests me....

Any specific details on this project, other than making more like DL's?

I heard from a few sources that they are changing the queue lines, switching them actually. Isn't the exit going to be the entrance and the entrance going to be the exit? :lookaroun

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to that rehab, IASW is in need of a long overdue spring cleaning...

As for the 20,000 Leagues Lagoon, I have given up all hope :(

10 year plan, huh?

I've got an idea...

LEAVE IT ALONE!!

What the heck is wrong with these people? Who is making these decesions? How much could it possibly cost them to leave it as is untill they're ready, and serious, to put in the E-tix? No!...Lets spend money to raze the area and then spend MORE money to have the Imagineers put something in there in say, oh, about 10 YEARS!

The whole thing makes me :hurl:

I'm going to go crawl in my closet now and talk to Walt for a little bit. :lookaroun

Anybody have anything they'd like me to pass on to him?

The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea area will be filled, and it will be a new MEET AND GREET area as an extension of Toon Town. No word on whether it will be a new entry. Rumor has it that a ten-year plan calls for an additional rehab - this time replacing the area with an E-Ticket Ariel's Grotto will remain for now

So is the Meet & Greet a "quick fix" until they do something permanant? Or are they connecting this area to Toontown & spruing it up, so you now have 2 options to get into it? Anything else happening to Toontown in light of this?

Also, I notied tonight in the Character Festival area, they had it closed but with tables and chairs set up. What's up with that?

Not to be rude at all, but IASW in WDW needs it bad. Come on, it hasn't gone through any major work since opening day october 1971.

New paint, new light, new sound, updated and better kept insides of the AA'S, and a facelift on the AA'S outside will all be good.

I'm not sure what's wrong with the boats themseleves. I don't mind new boats. I HATE how when we take off, and the boat shakes, and jitters on the belt. LOL.

After reviewing my video of IASW, the ride sets were much darker, there was broken bulbs in the ceiling, the AA'S were doing some crazy stunts, and at one point in the video you could hear the clinking sounds of the AA's. That means either bad sound systems to keep the noise out, or AA's that need work.

IASM really needs a rehab. So does many other of the rides in the MK that were original from 1971. I would love to see a broadway-like theature come to the Magic Kingdom. As for 20,000 leagues under the sea, i hope they do an E-Ticket ride for this area!! Hopefully they will put in Rodger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin, and connect it to Toontown to make it more like Disneyland. Whatever they do, i hope that it's worth-while and not just a temporrary fix.

Yes I'd like to see a ride in the 20K lagoon area, but it doesn't need to be a E-ticket. I'll take a no frills dark or boat ride. Just something to help "round out" Fantasyland.

If they do to IASW what they are talking about, it sounds utterly FABULOUS. After seeing DL IASW a few years ago, WDW paled in comparision. So if they can "jazz it up" while making good use of dead space (Skyway) and ease congestion in the area that is a HUGE plus.

Good news about Small World, a rehab is necessary.

The last time my family went it seemed murky, the sound was terrible and I could have sworn some of the dolls weren't working at all.

I'm not Small World's biggest fan but my kids love it and it really needs to shine again. I'd better get over there and see it before June just in case I can't get Seasonal Passes again next year.

As for the 20,000 Leagues Lagoon -- it's DEAD to me, you hear?
DEAD! Here is where I put a smiley face...

Finally, something is being done with the 20k Leagues area!
A few thoughts about this.

It really is deserving of an E-Ticket since 20k was one of the original E-Tickets for the MK.

The area is HUGE. The lagoon and show building are larger than just about all of the big attractions at the MK!

Look at these pictures.
http://www.disneypix.com/2000ft/Roll4/Roll04_004.htm
http://www.disneypix.com/2000ft/Roll4/Roll04_003.htm

Lagoon and show building are near the center bottom of the first picture. Small World is to its upper right and Haunted Mansion just to the right of Small World.

That is enough room for at least one HUGE attraction the size of Pirates, Big Thunder, or Spash Mountain!

After taking so long to do something with this area, you would think that Disney has some pretty big plans for it!

Does anyone know how big the area is (acrewise)?

I've read that part of the rehab of IASW is roof replacement and asbestos abatement. A rehab needs to be done. The attraction needs to be returned to it's former glory! :)

I hope they do something to "warm up" IASW on the inside (ie. lower the ceiling). It's like a boat ride thru a warehouse. It would be great if they transformed MK's version to look like Disneyland's on the outside. It would add alot to the attraction.:) I think there should be "meet and greets" no farther apart than every 25 feet (kidding):hammer: :brick: :dazzle: Seriously, they can't figure out something decent to do with the20k area? This is the same company that prides itself on imagination isn't it??

Although I have only ridden IASW once at WDW, I do remember the “warehouse effect” it had with incredibly high ceilings, although I believe DLP’s is the same. Am I right in thinking that IASW is next to 20k with a gift shop or restaurant and Arial’s Grotto in between? Do you think Disney will close all this back area of Fantasyland off to do all this work at once? I look forward to seeing the removal pictures of 20k, I think that will be very interesting.

I think we need a ride themed around Mary Poppins. It would be a good classic idea. We need to have some of the Classic Disney in Fantasyland.

Thanks for the arial MK pics! It's really astounding how well the facades hide those huge buildings! I never realized that there was a building behind the lagoon. Was this part of the 20K ride? What is it being used as right now?

There are a few other good pics on that site as well.

About 3/4 of the 20k ride was in the show buidling. The trip around the lagoon was more or less the 'pre-show'.

Hard to believe it has been 10 years now since the attraction closed. This was one of my favorite attractions as a kid.

I hope they don't drop the ball on the replacement for 20k!

Great news for IASW, but I'm not so sure about 20k. A meet and greet? very unlikely. Disney has made so many plans to put something big there. Little Mermaid or Bald Mountain?
