Changes coming to Fantasyland

Two MAJOR projects are now in the works for Fantasyland, it has been confirmed or semi-confirmed.

First up is the Its a Small World rehab scheduled for later this year. As it appears this multi-million dollar "rehab" will be more than just a rehab. It will be the kind of rehab that Space Mountain at DL is now getting. It will get a version DL's fascade, but on the inside; the loading/unloading areas will change; replacement dolls and props will be installed; the boats will be replaced; a new sound system will be installed; a new lighting system will be installed; and other enhancements.

Second up is the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Lagoon. Later this year, work will begin to start dredging the lagoon. It has been confirmed that something will move into this space once dredge work is completed. But as of yet, nothing has leaked out as to what it is.

I wish they would redo all of Fantasyland. Make it more like Disneyland Paris. Lots and lots of detail.

Last I read 20K lagoon is going to be a stage.

I still have my hopes up for an E-ticket. But two options I've heard are TDS's Mermaid Lagoon or a Hyperion-like theater.

Some additional information:

The it's a small world rehab will take place June 7, 2004 - March 18, 2005.

The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea area will be filled, and it will be a new MEET AND GREET area as an extension of Toon Town. No word on whether it will be a new entry. Rumor has it that a ten-year plan calls for an additional rehab - this time replacing the area with an E-Ticket Ariel's Grotto will remain for now - not true for Fantasyland Character festival, already closed.

First information comes from official source - second is from highly credible source.

Any chance a major theatre addition might eventually happen at Studios? Seems like a more appropriate park for a semi-broadway style show.

That's cool about It's a Small World. The ride really needed a rehab, and I'm glad it's finally getting it. Let's hope that Disney does the same for some other rides needing tune ups like Peter Pan, Snow White, Haunted Mansion, etc. I'm not talking about disaster rehab like Journey into Imagination, but just some freshing up.

You have to be kidding me Grizz.....MEET AND GREET!?!?! Are they out of their minds? I can't believe using that good piece of land for some meet and greet that can be found anywhere in Toontown Fair or in the park. What they should do there is either use it to build an actual ride for Toontown Fair (well, after re-doing the land as Toontown), another dark ride for Fantasyland (Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, or Sleeping Beauty perhaps?),or a Hyperion-style theater (after seeing Aladdin at DCA, I actually want the Hyperion there with the show, or somewhere in another park--once Aladdin finishes its run at DCA, they could always use set pieces and more here!).

YES!!!!!!!!! Finally a bigger place in the parks where you can meet and greet with characters. I was worried that we might get a nice new E-ticket, but this idea is so much better. But I don't know if this area is going to be big enough to hold all the characters they need. Maybe, if we're lucky, they can get rid of Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain and they could have an EVEN BIGGER meet and greet area. That's probably too much to ask for though.

Seriously though I can't believe this. All of this prime real estate is going to be wasted on a Meet and Greet? The next thing you know they'll be wanting to put a shop in the Timekeeper waiting area :lookaroun

IT GETS BETTER - - - GIFT SHOPS!!!!

I wouldn't mind a new area themed to Little Mermaid/Nemo/Bednobs and Broomsticks or a nice London area from Mary Poppins. A Portabello Road street of sort.

I think that'd be great. . . but at Animal Kingdom. :lookaroun

True, I was just goin' with it being at Disneyland's Fantasyland, but Animal Kingdom would probably be better. Although, then you would have two tall snowcapped mountains there with Everest goin up, but whatever works.

Everest = WDW's version of the Matterhorn

Anyway, I would like to see Storybook land come to WDW as well as more 3D and better looking facades for the attractions.

The Imagination rehab wasn't a rehab, but an excuse to close down the existing ride that was falling apart and management didn't want to put up the money it needed to fix it, so they chose instead to build a cheap ride that wouldn't require expensive up-keeping. The result was an uninspired and very unpopular ride. When guests complained in thr droves about it, Disney threw in pocket change ($5 million) to "fix" it. The "fix" is still cheap and unpopular, but a tad bit better than the mess before it. Disney just needs to shut this embarassment down and replace it with a ride concept people will get excited about and give it a budget of at least $50 million!

I would love to see this sort of treatment that they are doing to IASW to Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean!
