Changes at DTD

Probably a more reasonable explanation than calling it the greatest failure in company history....
Hows about "greatest non-creative, anti-guest satisfaction, we want more easy money so to hell with the fans" failure in company history.

I think that says it.

Yes, I understand all that. But the great "disclosure" here was that the project will have lights. That's not a disclosure at all. The only thing disclosed was that he has information and he's not telling it to anybody. That's the internet equivalent of "haha, I know something you don't know" (as I said it was in my previous post). If some people get off on being told something that is blatantly obvious, that's fine, but I don't have to like it.

Here's some more super secret disclosures ... the project will feature both concrete and steel beams. But I'm not telling any more than that. Everyone can be amazed by my special insider connections.

Now that's bending the disclosure more than a tad to suit your argument. The disclosure was that the project will have a $3.6m lighting package. To me, that suggests something more than garden variety third party shops are coming. Not at all analogous to stating 'the project will have lights' or that it will have concrete, bathrooms, etc.

I didn't call it the greatest failure in company history. I called it the greatest company failure since DCA. Specifically, I meant DCA's conception/building/opening ... that's 1998-2001ish.

and what about MDP/8-trax and CW? Any info on them?

As of now.

MDP; structure to stay, new facade on the entire building to match the new theme.

CW; structure to remain

8-Trax; structure to remain.

RnR Beach Club/Motion; Razed (as previously mentioned), single new structure to be built. Lee had some interesting post on this area

I thought the same.

Some here have even gone so far as to speculate WoC at DtD. Not being familiar with the logistics of that show that Lee has since pointed out, it wasn't that far of a leap for 3.6 million dollars.

That is an impressive amount just for lights and has perked my interest for what else the product entails.

3.6 million just for lights and WDI's involvement indicates to me they are not just thinking about easy money. The question is for me just how much WDI is creating. They could be just involved in the areas atmospherics and bringing in thid parties or it could be much more. In any case I am very relieved they are involved.

Agreed, but even more importatntly WDI is involved. (Eat your heart out Mr Lutz )

WoC cost 100 million so obviously we are not getting anything like that, at least at DTD. But, it is still a lot of money and if I were to guess, I'd say that is about what was spent on all the new castle effects/lighting added in the last few years. Something on that scale. Exciting times!

PS The reason I mention Al is as soon as the PI redo news broke he got right on his keyboard and started with his usual "Disneyland is just better" blog. And just because they may be getting some sort of new stage coach ride. But the horses have to be evicted first. :lookaroun

Do you think the RFID stuff will come into play with this redo at all? Maybe that's the kind of stuff that WDI needs to help with. Like interactive scenery and such.

I dunno, just spit-ballin'.

sigh...I wish they would open half the island with the new theme and do whatever with the rest. So in essence, change the facade but still nothing inside them.

The Epcot Manifesto
This is getting kicked around (dreamed about) in other threads and such, but I thought that DTD might also be a potential (and sorry if this has already been mentioned in this thread, I think I slipped off of reading it for a while, if so, please feel free to ignore).

With the new "water" based clues and waterfront properties that they are planning on developing for the PI area, is there any chance that a Tiana's Palace restaurant could make it into DTD / PI? It seems like it might fit in quite nicely here, and they could really do up the potential of the dancing and jazz-club aspects that the movie uses in DTD more than they could in one of the parks. Of course, I still think that PO would be ideal, but DTD probably gets more traffic and might have a better chance of filling out the restaurant with more people walking by and stopping in.

Little to no chance of a Tianna restaurant at DTD.
Disney is going totally third-party with DTD and PI, so unless Landry's wants to do a Princess restaurant....not gonna happen.

Do they have third-parties lined up? Or is everything still in the discussion stages?

If they are starting construction they have contracts. While it doesn't mean that things can't change, the construction contracts will be based on completed designs.

I thought the permits filed were for site mobilization and general construction. I wasn't aware there were established plans beyond essentially demolition and the "lighting" works that Raven discussed.....

I know of nothing officially but given Disney's track record (e.g. River Country) I think it is safe to assume that if demolition is planned construction will not be far off and again it would be safe to assume that Disney has signed contracts if they are going to start construction.

And that's just what I was wondering- who exactly are slated to start filling these new vacancies.....

Does that include the rumored Lighthouse fast food stand/bar? Is that still on the table? Seems a logical fit, but I was under the impression that would be Disney-run.
I have yet to hear of any Disney-run properties in PI's future. There may be some, but not the bigger ones.

Save Pleasure Island is reporting that a "speed boat" themed restaurant is coming to PI called Mahogany Bay Classic Old Boats and Great Food! Oh brother! Thanks, but I'd prefer 8tracks!
