CEO Bob Chapek?

Something to consider - and perhaps we should start a thread solely to discuss the purchase by Disney of some of Fox. Fox approached Disney. Consider what it will be keeping and how an infusion of cash will help. While some parts will make sense for Disney - as others pointed out, owning 60% of Hulu can help Disney in launching it's own streaming service, does the acquisition of another moderately successful studio and regional sports channels make sense? As @the.dreamfinder pointed out, sports leagues are creating their own channels and could start selling directly to the consumer. Isn't part of the problem with drop in revenue for ESPN due to cord cutting?
You should know that Disney's partners in Bam Tech are the NHL and MLB. The SEC and Big10 are also co-owners of their regional networks so unlikely to leave the new company.

Jesus with the talk here it seems like Fox is buying Disney. So Disney is buying Fox? Would that mean Disney is safe from being broken up and auctioned off?

Fox is looking to sell off it's entertainment division and is actively seeking out Disney to buy it from them. This would exclude Fox's news divisions, broadcasting stations and networks (so, they remain in competition with ABC), and national sports nextwork (which would remain in competition with ESPN). Disney would wind up with 30% of the movie business which should be small enough to keep from an anti-trust suit.

The rub is that Disney would buy Fox with stocks making this more of a merger and giving Fox a voice at the table. How big a voice? That's being debated. While James Murdoch has a lot of Fox stock and may try to insinuate himself to be on the Board or even CEO, the majority of Fox stock is owned by shareholders.

So, while this is not a hostile takeover designed to break up Disney, it is a buy-me-with-strings-attached-maybe deal.

Well, if you believe some of the articles out there, Bob Iger personally called the Murdochs in mid-October and got the ball rolling with an offer to buy Fox's entertainment and regional sports properties.

Yes and he was punished for it and learned form it. As an American I understand people can make mistakes, get punished, pay the price and be forgiven. Now if we were to take the view that no one should ever be forgiven for a mistake and prevented from working then we would have real problems. The question is not was he involved in that horrible phone hacking but can he be forgiven and have the right to prove himself qualified for a high post in Disney. I think he has done a good job at Fox after the hacking and am willing to give him a chance.
After what he did, the victims can forgive him, but he should never work in media at a high level again. Daddy has protected him. If he wasn’t a Murdoch, he’d be blacklisted from the industry.

His behavior should follow him for the rest of his professional career and prevent him from being a senior exec or CEO of TWDC.

“Content is king” as Sumner Redstone once said. The leagues and the schools ultimately own the content and they can walk away. With the notable exception of broadcast, Disney and Fox don’t have anything only they control to use against the leagues and conferences.

when you put it that way it becomes quite incestuous. Ownership and voting rights in a corporation who is a direct competitor. How does that even work?

This "merger" would definately give Disney enough content for possibly 2 streaming services...entertainment and sports.

Nope, The Murdoch's are playing rope a dope with Iger who is neither creative and lacks the ability to 'Think on his feet' thats why every public appearance has him in a scripted role.

The only time we've seen Iger unscripted was at the NFL franchise move pitch, And it was an epic disaster for him he looked like a deer caught in a car's headlights.

Have no doubts, Murdoch/Perlmutter will be in charge of Disney within a year of this deal closing.

Save it from what? Enormous wealth and power? The company is a whole lot bigger now then it was back in the #Savedisney days.
As an all stock deal, Disney would effectively become Rupert Murdoch’s company. Bob Iger is selling Disney. That should be cause for alarm.

I’m done with the “X-Men in the MCU” fanboi blathering. Fans need to understand the deeper implications of this deal and the damage Bob and twenty plus years of poor management have done to large swaths of the company.

Don't forget the earnings call when the kid befuddled him or when he was asked about DHS's new name

The articles I've read stated that Fox approached Disney to purchase parts of the company. Which would be very interesting....

Pwrhaps it's time to start a thread on the Disney - Fox purchase. I couldn't find one earlier when I searched. We've forgotten about poor Chapek over the past few pages. And frankly, this is vastly more important to the future of TWDC. Would love to get @WDW1974 perspective on this....
