Have they announced when the repainting will be finished and the scaffolding down? I'm hoping to be there in October and would love to see the full castle (and its dungeon!).

It's not Maleficent... it's Merlin's dragon. Fun fact.
Isn't it either? I remember reading somewhere that Terri Hardin (the designer) and Tom Morris deliberately didn't tie the dragon to a specific character so the guests can personally define the dragon's character.

The dragon could be Maleficent in her dragon form based on the sign outside:

Pretty bad- of Aurora and Philip to resurrect their enemy and trap her in her dragon form in their castle dungeon...

And it could be Merlin's dragon friend, as you said, if you're coming from the Merlin l'Enchanteur shop.

The castle scaffolding is slowly being taken down, and parts of the refurbished castle are revealed. The highest spire has yet to return, but knowing DLP, it's probably going to be the last element installed in front of park officials and cast members and filmed for their social media.

@marni1971, are they eyeing to have the refurbished castle revealed by November in time for the Christmas season?

The plan is for it to be substantially done by December afaik. Hopefully it’ll be completed enough for some decor. Covid obviously hit the schedule but also helped with 7 months of 24/7 access.

They seem to be on the right track then! I asked since a lot of people speculated there'll be some sort of projection show on the castle during the Christmas season because of the ad.
