I have to admit, I was skeptical at first, but after seeing the lights in person a couple weeks ago...I really hope they come back next year. They're beautiful!! :animwink:

Does anyone know how long it'll take to remove all the lights? I'm gonna be in WDW from January 18th to the 24th, and I hope there isn't a crane by the castle.

Don't worry. Even if they're still taking down the lights at that time, they'll lower the crane out of sight early each afternoon in preparation for Wishes. So if you're thinking of taking pictures of the castle, you'll have plenty of time to do so without the crane being in the shot. :)

Last show on the 6th. Shortly thereafter they'll be removed section by section in the middle of the night. No large cranes needed for the strike of this. Smaller cranes will be used and brought into and out of the park every night. It's considerably easier to take it down than to put it up.

Yes, it will return next year. Pretty much guaranteed five year lifespan on this one....

I wonder if they'll pull the lights out next year like:

"Looks like we've got a little knot here Russ. You can work on that."

The castle lighting show is in my opinion is the most dazzling show/effect of any disney attraction. To see it in person is to witness something that appears impossible, like a movie special effect happening right before your eyes.

The only other attraction anywhere, that wowed me this much is "The Amazing Adventures of Spider Man" at Islands of Adventure.

And after you leave the park, seeing it from the monorail from across the lake... it is absolutely enchanting and very very magical.

Do you know how they are structured? I did not notice them during the day. So, I initailly kind of wondered if they would remove them or simply leave them turned off.

What does their structure look like? Embedded into the walls or overlaid?

I saw a brand new Holidays at Walt Disney World with Samantha Brown. They are devised of lights and netting that is dyed to match the castle. Blue on the turrets and light beige on the walls. That way during the day it gives the illusion that the lights are not there.

Leaving the lights up would lessen their life span. The heat and sun would cause the wire to become brittle and crack faster. Considering that they were custom made and the wire colored specifically, I'm sure they want these to last for quite some time.
