Just wondering what you guys bring with you money wise. Not necessarily the amount but do you bring only cash, only travellers cheques or a combination of both?

Thanks

I use to go throught the trouble to doing travellers cheques...I made me feel safer. Then after a few years it became more of a pain...going to the bank..always needing a pen to sign..having the cashier give you funny looks..like they did not wanat to be bothered with you and your T.C. So now i just bring cash and lock it in the safe..and only carrier enought for the day. What i do when i am carry lots of cash..like in the airport and such..I divided it up..dont carry it all in the same spot. I give some to DH and put some in my wallet and some in a differnt wallet in a different part of the back pack. That way if something was to happen the chance of losing all my cash is lower. Another option you have is getting Disney gift cards if you dont want to carry cash...I think that is a better option now adays instead of T.C.

Heading for the great escape.
A small amount of ready cash, the rest is on card and preloaded $$$ exchange card that can be used to withdraw cash or use like a debit card. Used to use Amex Travellers cheques but thats too much like effort when I can do everything else on line.

I used to do Traveler's Checks as well, but it became more of a hassle (and cost) to do that. Now I just bring some cash and my credit card. It also helps me that every ATM is Chase so I can get cash without being charged anything extra.

I use #tigerblood and wampum. :D

I'm having the same dilemma. As of now my plan is to take a set amount of cash and then use my debit card for larger purchases. We're on DxDP, though, so meals and snacks are taken care of, and we'll only need cash for souvenirs and extras. Oh, and adult beverages.

Cheers,
Indy

Thanks everyone....I was thinking cash and then keeping it in the safe and just have what we'll need for every day. It's not like we'll have a ridiculous amount of it but still enough to wonder what everyone does!

We usually do some cash, credit card and our bank card. We too split the cash between dh and I as he always has his wallet and I have a cross body bag that I never take off. But never too much money. If we need more cash we have our bank card. I'll take the ATM fee over carrying around hundreds in cash!

We are going in July and are telling family to give gift cards to Disney for the kids for Easter and their bday that will come before!

Gift cards can be used at Disney restaurants and are a good way to go. Make sure you write down the card number and if you loose it they can freeze the card and get you a new one.

Or take a close up picture of it.

You didn't say if you were staying on property or not.
We use the room card for just about everything. Use the credit/debit card for other purchases. Finally, we do bring some cash and divide it up between the wife and I, but keep most of it in the room safe.

at the end of your trip can you use your debit card to pay the balance?

I take mostly travellers cheques and some cash, have never had any problems with TC's at Disney (or Universal, Sea World or Malls) just sign one when paying for food, souvenirs etc and they give me change, real easy.

I haven't used Travellers Checks for .... well it's been a long time.

I take some "folding money" $200 - $300 and then for dinners, major purchases, etc I just charge it on a credit card. I pretty much do that wherever I go.

If I know I am going to be someplace where security is a qustion - like going to a beach or a water park, I will only carry a portion of the cash with me. Otherwise it's not a problem.

As we use the room billing option as a resort guest all costs (dining, merchandise etc.) go on our credit card, so in the World we are actually without cash or travellers cheques, with the exception of a few bucks for tip.

I bring virtually no cash. Everything goes on the KTTW card if I'm staying on site or on a credit card if staying off site. No need to worry about cash at all. Whatever is in my wallet when the trip starts is what I bring, and it's usually all there, untouched, by the end of the trip, to leave as a tip for the maids.

That last bit actually annoys me. I'd love to be able to add the housekeeping tip on to my hotel bill, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

I like leaving a couple of $$ every day for the maids.
There's a couple of places that don't take the room cards or plastic. The funnel cake booth in front of America comes to mind.

Yes we are staying on property. But these are all excellent ideas. I think we will be bringing some cash but mostly stick with credit/debit cards

I only bring about $200 cash for snacks, bottled water, and housekeeping. Everything else goes on my room key or credit card. If I run out I guess I could find an ATM, but it hasn't happened yet.

I'll have to investigate that preloaded exchange card Pumba mentioned for an upcoming overseas trip. I've usually just used an ATM and taken the hit, but the daily limit goes quickly when converted to euros.

Just looked - I can't get the currency I'll need. Ah well.

Coming from Canada and dealing with exchange I would recommend having about $200 USD cash and use a credit card for every purchase or expenditure you have. You will probably get better exchange rates that way than going to a local bank to exchange. I travel a couple times a year to Canada and find this works best for me. Remember that any USD cash that you have left over needs to be converted back and that will cost you a few percentage points for a second time.
