Cash Question

Ok, I know I've brought this up before, but now we're getting to the nitty-gritty. I've saved, and saved, and saved, and saved ... but what do I do with it?

Do I throw it on my Visa and set up my Key in order to charge to the room?

Or do I throw my traveller's cheques down onto the Key and charge to the room? Can I even do this (put TC's onto the room for charging purposes)?

I will be bringing some actual cash for our travel days (7 hours of flights with no meals included), snacks and our one day at Sea World , but other than that, I am soooo confused!

Visa = secure & convenient but then there's the interest
TC's = secure and no interest but darn-tootin' inconvenient

Please help!

PS. Staying at POR, so I know there's the $1000 charge limit

I'm also from Canada ... One thing I would do is save the leftover cash and on the last day hit downtown Disney with my budget for the day plus all the leftovers and do a big shopping spree before heading home.

 I'm with you on that ... it's a no-brainer! We Canadian gals have to get our shopping time in!

Oh, and why did you have to go and say you're "cute"???!!! Now my wife won't let me talk to you anymore.:ROFLOL:

Well, now, "cute" and "smart" don't always go together, kind of like how Walt Disney produced a film called "Beaver Valley" :zipit: And, while flattering, I'm not really into long distance, internet relationships. Lol.

Thanks, Eric!

I would say buy a Disney gift card. I wouldn't reccomend a Visa gift card because you actually lose your money if you don't spend the exact amount on the card (i.e. - you card won't get authorized if you go over your card balance.) Also, I think they charge a $2.50 fee just to get the card activated.

Go with Disney dollars/WDW gift cards.

Go to your bank and instead of getting AmEx checques, get the gift card. That is what we just did. It was fabulous and the best part was the bank told me not to sign it, this way both my husband and I can use it. No one ever looked at the signature! That was the best part.

when we checked in they did ask us for a credit card, so I gave them my MC, but it never got charged anything. When we checked out, I just had them delete the MC and take it out of my AMEX. They would not accept the AMEX in the beginning as it was a debit card, and they had no clue how much was on there.

Hope this helps!

This happened to me a few trips back (hit the max on the CC which was being used for the room charges). I did not realize that there was a 'limit' - I contacted the hotel (WL) and they increased the amount that I could charge - with NO PROBLEM - Not embarassing at all - it is a built in safety device that WDW has - to protect you - i.e. makes you aware of your charges it you are a shop-a-holic. This was done in the shop where the 'limit' occured.

Maybe this is wise, maybe it isn't, but here is what I have always done on our Florida vacations:

I took along almost two grand (that's when we stayed off property) which pretty much covered the entire trip, except for park tickets, which were purchased in advance. It covered gas, motel, food, etc. I put around 500 or so in traveler's checks and the rest in cash, and used my "vacation wallet"...a wallet with a chain that attaches to my belt loop. This way, I know my wallet isn't gonna work its way out of my pocket and fall on the ground somewhere, or be pickpocketed. Unfortunately, it won't protect me against a mugger. :p

This time, staying on property with the dining plan, that part is all prepaid. I just need about a grand to bring along for gas, lodging on the way there and back, food on the way there and back, as well as any misc food beyond the DDP, and general spending money. And I'll probably do the same thing...just carry cash and traveler's checks in my wallet.
