Carsland May Come to Tokyo

Al Lutz said is in his new column that Carsland *may* come to DHS at the end of the decade, if it at all. TDO wants to downsize Carsland (probably so it could fit), and Lasseter, obviously, doesn't want this as as great as Carsland is, you need the whole Radiator Springs to tell the story. I think that wherever Carsland is built, it should be expanded slightly to have a fourth ride.

Tokyo, not surprisingly, is willing to pay the $$ to get a Carsland done right.

Al jokes about TDO getting excited about walls and meet and greets, and he's right.

"While Disney Hollywood Studios is the leading contender for a WDW park to get a scaled down version of Cars Land late this decade, Imagineers and John Lasseter are already frustrated by the Orlando executive never ending requests to trim and scale back the project. (Remember, the Orlando folks get excited about walls, and Princess meet and greets as opposed to actual rides. No wonder bookings are hurting.)

So while WDI lets the Orlando team mull over their downsized options and how to cut them back even further, the Imagineers are moving on to a different client for their Cars Land cloning machine, and it’s a client that has WDI and John Lasseter salivating."

Notice how he says "Disney Hollywood Studios" instead of "Disney's Hollywood Studios". Grammatical error or a sign of things to come?

First off, if Lassetter wants the full Carsland he has enough pull in the company to make it happen. And second, I thought Lassetter wanted it exclusive to DCA, but now he and Imagineering are salivating over replicating it? I'm sorry but I don't see creative people like Lassetter and Imagineers salivating at the idea of spending the next few years doing it all over again.

I'm worried about the future at WDW, it's understandable for budgets to get cut down to a point but not at the expense of the experience. Hopefully the right people get in and the wrong people get out at TDO..

Word was he wanted to keep it stateside exclusive to DCA for fear that East Coasters wouldn't see as much reason to make the trip West if WDW had one of its own. The likelihood of someone canceling a trip to DCA because they can see it in Tokyo instead is much less, I would imagine.

Tokyos proposed budget for NEW attractions over the next five years is upsetting for anyone who knows how TDO works.

Let me guess 10x that of TDO. Oh well soon I'm hoping all this CarsLand slashing get JL so irked that he does a stand down against TDO.

Future continuing to look grimmer all the time at WDW and brighter at every other park. Wonderful. I've essentially given up on any sort of real positive change hitting WDW. If even Lasseter is unable (or perhaps unwilling, dunno) to keep TDO from butchering this project then I don't see how anyone in the Disney company could stop them. My only consolation in all of this is that this form of business practice isn't sustainable in the long terms (and with Disneyland itself prior to its cleanup, you'd think they had learned from that). It will eventually come back to bite them and they'll either have to change back to quality or risk a far worse fate.

will anything ever not be downsized?
Yes, the Orlando team's paychecks and bonuses.

The reason why it's going to be downsized is because luigis is a very crappy ride. And also remember cars is going to be a part of Pixar place not a whole land. And didn't someone say that Burbank is calling the shots on the DHS project

They will undo all of the goodwill created by DCA 2.0 if they roll out NextGen/Fastpass+ in California. This has the potential to be the single most shortsighted money grab in the history of the company. If the rumors we are hearing are true it could crush the resorts for years before they build up enough good will to bring back the diehards.

Eliminating Luigi's Flying Tires isn't the thing people have a problem with, it's re purposing Catastrophe Canyon and not building the rest of Carsland that people don't like.

Aren't they on a delayed time table for NextGen? So they could kill it for DLR after it wrecks havoc down in O-Town.

Check the WDW Rumors forum, that's the current rumor. It was also hinted at in the Al Lutz article that this thread is based on.
That's sad if it's true all the news I've heard has been positive and I really trust who's been telling me the news
