MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I don’t think you’re going to get much walk-around within the attraction area, unfortunately. Assuming they go with what we see in the concept, there’s not much space for that. Where it feels more possible is actually around the perimeter of the land. They may keep the boardwalk and put small cascades, dams, etc. along it.
My money is on carnival games

trying to plan a holiday trip with my older mother and I *really* do not want to break this news to her, anyone have a percentage guess that the river stays alive all of 2025...

Well technically it was originally rumored to be closing in early 2025 and we’re just about at the halfway point now, so I guess there is hope. They will most likely give a couple months of notice before closing it, and I don’t know whether they would want to close it during the holiday season where they need every bit of capacity they can get.

Spent some time on the Liberty Belle yesterday….had to take what may well end up being my last cruise with her.

I am sorry to report that she is in rough shape.
Has this been reported on already?
Looks like they are letting her slide, similar to what seems to happen to Attractions slated to be closed.

Observations I personally saw -

Paint peeling, in many areas .
Noticed it primarily on the white posts on the upper deck, but may have been elsewhere.
Large sections of paint missing from the wooden railings on the top deck.
Rust areas, primarily around the bases of metal railings and under fire extinguishers.
Also the wooden decks and stairs leading to the higher levels all need a refurb / refinishing.

I was glad to be able to ride again, but it hurt to see her in such need of a lick of paint and a polishing.
Disneyland has spoiled me badly with the beautiful condition of the Mark Twain.

Cast on board however seemed confident the company will do something with her preservation wise.
I noticed Guests asking them about this, which was good to hear.
Whether or not that actually happens….we shall see.

Also explored Tom Sawyer Island, likely for the last time before it is leveled.
It was great to get out there and enjoy this ‘vintage WDW’ experience.
Was surprised that the shotguns in the fort were still there…and working with sound!
A nice surprise.
The caves and mine shaft still being the nostalgic thrills…and the barrel bridge is of course a classic challenge.
🙂
There were two areas that offered stellar views of both the Haunted Mansion and ‘Tony’s Mountain’ ( aka ‘Big Thunder Mountain Railroad’).
Sadly those unique views will probably be lost from this angle….

Man it really sucks knowing this whole area will be trashed for a dirt road rally with cartoon cars.
Send that over to Hollywood Studios, please, and keep this charming area.

And it makes me incredibly sad…and angry at the stupidity in this decision.

I want to know, WHO is responsible for making said decision…?

😡

It is truly the most disgusting parks decision the company has ever made.
Universal builds Epic Universe full of waterways, fountains, water at How to Train Your Dragon...
While Disney paves over one of the most scenic vistas in the park.
It boggles my mind.

They could re-route the river like they did in Disneyland for their SWGE addition... THey certainly have more space to work with than Disneyland has... Put Cars in another park and alter the river to allow the continuation of the riverboat and add the Villains section behind... Extend the walkway on the Big Thunder side and create an old Western Mining town to match Big Thunder with an additional attraction or two... Re-route the Railroad if necessary...a longer RR trip with some more engaging scenery would be a huge plus...and MK would gain from having expanded the park and maintaining it's classic Disney style...

This thread makes me wonder if I’m better off for not having an attachment to ROA or if it’s a tragedy that I never really enjoyed it. I never rode the riverboat because I usually arrived to MK on the ferry and it seemed like a waste of time to me. As for Tom Sawyer Island I honest to goodness had no idea it was even there until a year or two ago when there was a big deal about a bear getting in there.

I went a couple times as a kid and have been making regular trips as an adult since 2012 (at least once a year, most years more) and no one ever mentioned it was there.

But...but...but..inefficient use of space! Nobody goes there anymore! MK needs more capacity! Little Johnny and Jenny will loooooove it! WDW needs more rides, not scenery and ambiance! You have to embrace change! WDW is not a museum! Cohesive theming is overrated! Bob and Josh know what's best for us! Mountains shaped like car parts fits perfectly in Frontierland! Tom Sawyer isn't relevant in 2025! etc, etc, etc

You are one of the big winners in this case of destroy and replace at WDW.

I think you can point to the last time it was taken out of service. If I remember, it was only out of service long enough to perform the boiler inspection. Usually it's out of service longer to complete any refurb work needed. But that was skipped this time I'm guessing because they knew it was coming out of service and wouldn't be needed much longer.

I suspect this is not so much a conscious decision by management, but rather a consequence of limited resources. Think of it this way. If you are the maintenance manager for the MK (or Liberty Square. Don't know what level these things are decided at) you have limited money and man-hours to maintain everything in your purview. You're probably willing to ignore a few cosmetic blemishes on a low-attended attraction that will be closed soon and spend that time/money touching up the Haunted Mansion or the Christmas Shoppe which thousands of people come through every day.
