Carousel...love it, or leave it?

We only rode it once as a novelty on our first trip with our daughter when she was three. Since that time we walk past it, look at it and keep right on moving. It hearkens back to a simpler time and maybe that is the allure but I am curious what feelings others have about it. It seems to be from a bygone era and I love preserving the past and it is certainly a magnificent example of it's genre but I also think it does not have a whole lot to do with Disney.

Even the spinners like Dumbo and Aladdin (not a fan of Aladdin) seem to have more to do with WDW since they represent icons of Disney history. I am not saying it should be removed as it really does not impact our vacation one way or the other but I just have to say I just don't get it. Maybe it is a case of "you can't go back again" where I have gotten too old and jaded which necessitates more new and exciting stimulus to draw my attention too...even the thought of that makes me sad!

Anyway...thoughts?

When it comes to the MK's Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, we're definitely in the "leave it" crowd. My children rode it once when they were very young but have had no desire to do it since. We're amusement park types and nearly every modern amusement park has its own carrousel. We didn't travel to WDW to do something we can do at home for a lot less!

Now when it comes to the Carrousel of Progress, that's a completely different matter.:) I think it's OK but my DW and 4 teenage children love it; it's something they want to do once each trip.

At first I thought you meant CoP! But you mean the horsey thing! Classic WDW, it stays! Never ridden it, my first trip was when I was 31! But its a WDW icon! :)

I think in order to continue to have new and innovative rides, you have to keep one beautiful classic one.

And carousels(especially this one) are definitely beautiful.
I have ridden it on every trip since I became an adult.

A carousel is symbolic...of nostalgia, and childhood, and life.

(although I still dream of someday riding an animatronic carousel, where the chargers move and interact)

Classic..we ride it every trip..sometimes twice.. can't imagine going and NOT riding it!

Classic!!! Plus, it is a huge deal in Walt Disney's personal history. It was his 'baby' for the worlds fair, and a huge deal in theatre history.

I would love to see an upgrade in the last scene. The 90s are a bit dated. However, I love all the other scenes. There's nothing like seeing Uncle Orville in the tub with his "ice machine" and the explosion of paste all over his wife's rump. Lol.

DD wouldn't let us pass it, although I'm guessing my DS will probably want to sit it out, now that he is a teenager. that was DD's first ride. Do they still have one horse that is Cinderella's, or did that change when it changed names?

....oh no....I hold have read ALL the posts. You're talking about the merry-go-round carousel, by the Carousel of Progress???!!! I'm sorry!! Just don't read what I wrote. Lol.

Okay: with THE carousel: I met Tom Cruise on it last year. That baby was whipping around faster than light. Suri rode it a bazillion times. ...seriously, they upped the speed of it probably for Tom's safety?!?

It's a classic for any park...and given the fact that it's been around WDW forever, it's a keeper.

Cinderella's horse is still there, it has the gold ribbon on it's tail. DD rode it in November. :)

Carousel is a must for us. Not only does DD love carousels, I do too. Even before kids, I loved them! No rhyme or reason, I just think they're classic.
