They are giving a $75 gift card per night. Hardly 'full boat'. The rest of your argument is valid, though.
Besides arrival, departure, and 1 day out of 8 we don't expect to eat there much, so the $75 is fine for now. The main pool isn't closed which was a big reason we booked here. We have a rental car so and transportation changes won't effect us. The rest I can't say how I feel until we get there and see if the changes effect us more than what we expect.

Wow thats a first, Im guessing there was considerable blowback about this project and its unfortunate timing

No, they announced the gift card pretty much right away, even before really informing most people. They know the situation isn't ideal, and they took a step to remedy it. They don't have enough rooms on property to close the resort.

You didn't know about this and you were railing against how awful it was? I mean, you could at least read the thread, the gift card is only probably mentioned 1000 times.

What transportation changes? The closed/temporary stop is at Coronado, not Caribbean. Easy to get the two projects confused. Transportation at CBR should actually be a little faster since the Barbados stop is gone.

I thought the loop around the resort being closed off would change how the bus cycles were previously. My mistake.

I travel extensively for business, Sometimes I even book a year in advance why is it that Hilton and Marriott can tell me that they will be doing work on my selected hotel a year out, Yet Disney the alleged leader in customer service chooses to surprise guests with a couple of weeks notice.

On business travel I probably don't care if they are renovating my hotel unless I'm holding a meeting. On vacation I care very much and Disney should care just as much about their guests. My issue is Waldorf-Astoria pricing with Motel Six service.

I don't know what any of that has to do with you posting about how 'horrible' this is and they weren't giving guests compensation, when they actually are.

I think they are moving the checkin function and other support activity from Custom House to OPR area so they can tear down Custom House as part of the tower work. That needs to be up and running at OPR first so that work has to go first.

Seems reasonable. Although moving check in to a temporary structure instead might have been a better idea.

Moving checkin to where the rest of the resort is would be a good idea a long time ago. That's a permanent change, not temporary. It sounds like they are changing up the restaurants there at the same time--probably decided it was better to do all construction at the same time in that building.

Personally I wouldn't stay there as the resort experience is important to us, it's not just a place to sleep, but I respect that others feel differently. Giving a $75 gift card per day is pretty fair in my opinion. Those who are affected have the choice to take it or switch resorts if available, it seems they gave enough notice to do that. I have two friends who are quite happy keeping their reservations there.

As others have stated they simply can't close the resort entirely, so I think they're doing their best with it. I don't think anyone is defending Disney or apologizing for them just because. You're either okay with the changes or you don't stay there, fairly simple really.

I am sooooooo glad I moved my reservation to POR for December. After seeing the dining options - no way $75/night would make it worth it. We actually use the food court for several meals (mostly breakfast). We would go to OPR at least once a day. What they are offering? Yick. Keeping an open mind for what it will become, but knowing that what we had known for the last 12 years makes me a little sad.

Holy cow, I've seen more attractive military field kitchens than this abomination.

Pixie dusters cover your sensitive ears

Come stay at Disney, pay full price eat in a outdoor tent, yeah that sounds attractive.

Jeez, heck join the National Guard and get paid for the same level of experience, and you'll be serving your fellow citizens at the same time!

Considering this will be in place for several YEARS it's yet another example of Disney's current attitude 'Tourists will take whatever we give em and LIKE IT, stupid rubes.'

A real hotelier would have erected a steel building and at least made an effort to create a pleasant dining experience.

You should check the facts before posting comments.

Kindly, refrain from insulting tourists.

I don't know why the Caribbean Resort get a bad rap from some. We stayed there on our last trip and loved it. We were in Trinidad North and it was only a short walk to Port Royale/Centertown. The atmosphere was great and the grounds were very well kept. Shutters may not be the best restaurant ( no we didn't eat there) but the food court was great! Whatever you needed it was there for you. Burgers, pizza, fish, apples, beer, apple juice, it's all there. When we were at EPCOT we ate at the Coral Reef Restaurant. For a table service meal it left a lot to be desired....a small piece of salmon with about 8 green beans and a cup of mashed potatoes. At the food court at the Caribbean I ordered the salmon with sides of rice and mashed potatoes. There was twice the amount of food for a counter service meal than I received for a table service. Also the Calypso gift shop seemed to have whatever we needed....corn starch, newspapers, advil, plush toys, and a Donald Duck watch that we were not able to find in any other shop. Overall we loved the resort and were looking forward to returning to it this year but with all the construction going on we are going to Port Orleans French Quarter again. Hopefully with all the construction they won't ruin the wonderful atmosphere there in the quest for the almighty dollar.

I've been thinking I'm the only person here that likes Caribbean Beach Resort. Thanks for such a positive post. I also hope the wonderful island atmosphere will remain after construction is completed; it's just too bad they are proposing to build a tower, but we can only hope that they use common sense. Also, I agree with you about the salmon at the CBR food court; it was so delicious, I had it for dinner twice on my last trip.

As I understand it, people who are booking right now get charged whatever price Disney is asking and receive no compensation. Looking on the website it doesn't seem a low price either. Wondering if they are getting many takers?

Because that's not how the hospitality industry is SUPPOSED to work, This was a long planned expansion of a popular hotel not repair of storm damage in which case the current situation would be appropriate along with the compensation.

Instead Disney DELIBERATELY mislead people into thinking that CBR was going to be operating normally this summer season because they did not want to take the revenue hit that pre-announcing construction would have created.

So a week or so before the first guests arrive Disney drops a letter hey we are doing construction and here's a a gift card sucker, Have a magical day.

People cannot change their vacation plans at that point and travel insurance does not usually cover construction, And the other factor that you seem to miss is some family members don't visit the parks they are there to enjoy the resort itself amazingly enough.

I REALLY don't like how Disney and WDW especially plays it's guests as suckers these days who are expected to plan meals 6 months out and rides 2 months out yet Disney is not bound to reciprocate in the least.

Yes the $75/night offer expired in March. New bookings get nothing. I ended up switching to CSR and saved about $75/night directly off my room rate.

That's weird because we have stayed in a few different Marriotts that were undergoing total renovation, and we received absolutely no notice, no different room rate, and even as a platinum elite member, we received nothing extra. We found out when we got there. And all within the last year. Methinks you don't travel as much as you claim to.

Bus stop questions.

The Custom House bus stop was the Barbados stop. Because the Custom House is still in use, are the busses still stopping at Barbados?

Martinique is now only half an island, closest 3 to OPR. Think they can shut down the Martinique stop and combine it with OPR?

So when the Resort is completed, maybe the bus stops will only be Jamaica, Aruba, OPR, Trinidad North and T. South. Down from 7 stops to 5 is much improved.

Where did Disney mislead anyone? The communication to guests that I've seen always stated that there would be construction and that the restaurant and food court would be closed.
