Unfortunately many ppl were booked months before the construction was announced. There were no other options for us personally to move to except Coronado which also had construction. When notices first went out I had to contact Disney to find out if the main pool, and other amenities would be closed, because the email was very generic and non specific. It won't effect our stay much, but will be given the $75 comp.Where did Disney mislead anyone? The communication to guests that I've seen always stated that there would be construction and that the restaurant and food court would be closed.

Oh I agree the resort should have been closed. The current experience is awful and nowhere near appropriate for a Disney resort.I am not saying Disney mislead anyone, just saw your post as a logical jumping off point for an opinion.
That opinion is that Disney should have shut the resort down completely during this massive project. A tent serving food is fine if you've just been through a disaster and FEMA is in town. It is laughable at a supposedly world class resort. And one that hasn't dropped the nightly room rate to $49.99 as a construction special.
When hearing about what was happening at this resort, my only thoughts were simply "Only Disney could get away with this ... only Disney."

I think we agree far more than you realize.I hope the fact you and I completely agree -- and are RIGHT! -- is not a sign of the end of days!

They should've kept the $75 gift card for the duration of the construction - or at least construction to Old Port Royale and the food courts. Why should people pay rack rate for such a loss of quality and experience?
They are giving compensation to those who booked before March. I believe they only announced the compensation in February after a full month of people who had already booked were calling up to try to change their hotel reservation. At first (January) they were quoting people hundreds of dollars increased costs to switch to another moderate. Then they tried to offer some people $25 per room per night, before having to up-the room credit to $75 per night. Many concerned people with reservations were calling during January and early Feb and a lot of them were being told this was just normal refurb. Overseas (eg. UK) bookings made through travel agents were getting even less useful information as it appeared that for weeks the travel agents were being told it was just normal refurb. There will be an awful lot of disgruntled visitors to CBR later this summer -- either people who do not follow boards like this and so have no idea, or people who made inquiries earlier and were told it was all going to be minor and arrive and find a mess tent for dining.I don't know what any of that has to do with you posting about how 'horrible' this is and they weren't giving guests compensation, when they actually are.
We stayed at this resort for two nights last April and had a great time. It wasn't the height of luxury, but I never would have called it a dump either. (And we tend to stay in nicer hotels). My kids loved the pool, we ate in the food court once or twice and it was decent, and the grounds were pretty. We are going back in November and between free dining and the gift card offer, decided to stay five nights here again. That brings the cost down to value level for us. Because we don't tend to eat at the resort and aren't big breakfast eaters and eat most of our meals in the parks, I think the resort will still be good for us in spite of the construction and lack of dining options. It's allowing us to tack on a few nights at a deluxe at the tail end of our trip, so I'm happy! I'm interested to see photos and hear about experiences here once the full construction starts.
You do realize that the 75/night gift card is ONLY being given to those who booked before march of this year.
After that its Rack Rate babyeee
Yep, we booked in march when the gift card was being offered. If it wasn't, we would've chosen another resort. I forget the rate we're paying (something like $210 a night), but the room is discounted and the gift card is on top of that. Its worth it to us, but I totally understand why it wouldn't be to a lot of people. And I do think paying rack rate during all that construction would be crazy.
