Carded for Energy Drinks

Like most supplements the dosage is important. Ephedrine is relatively safe in small doses but you can run into trouble when bone heads have the "If 2 work great then 50 will work even better" attitude.

Many people think that just because a supplement is natural that it can be taken in nearly any quantity and that just is not the case.

Guarana for all intents and purposes is a highly concentrated form of caffeine. The negative health effects of long term high level caffeine use can range from gastrointestinal problems, adrenal exhaustion to coronary vasospasms. The only long term study I have ever seen on it showed no significant effects on memory. About the only thing that has been conclusively proved about guarana is its use in treating chronic diarrhea.

Sounds like to me that Disney is being proactive here.

It was actually at the Swan, so I'm guessing this was a Starwood decision.

I agree that RedBull tastes like p-e-e. And that new pink Tab energy drink tastes like a RedBull that someone dropped a watermelon Jolly Rancher into. RedBull and vodka is disgusting too, and didn't really get me drunk or buzzed either. The only energy drink I can stomach is the Starbucks doubleshot, and I've cut down on them because last time I downed one, I got so jittery. I'm so glad I turn 21 in a couple of weeks; I can buy anything I want. I just have to deal with the nasty looks and comments about a fake ID because I look about 12.

I was a Cold Drink Account Mgr for Coke in SW fla.We never had any issues with age restrictions in Fla for Energy Drinks. The only issue we had was that we could not sell our brands to Fla Gulf Coast Univ. since one ingredient made the athletes fail their drug tests. We sold Full Throttle,Rock Star,KMX, and Von Dutch Energy Drinks.

Haha, gotta love when schools don't trust their athletes enough to not drink something that they'd ban its sale completely.

He says that if they're gonna put an age restriction on energy drinks, they better put one on McDonalds fries first. They'll kill you faster than an energy drink ever could. Who's up for starting a petition so people are carded before getting 'fries with that?'

A 16 year old was carded that I work with here in Ohio at a convenience store. They told him that they were now checking ID's as a company policy. They were restricting them to 16 + yrs. There's a lot of stuff in those drinks that probably isn't good for young people. Guarana, extremely high caffiene levels, for example. As adults, we are free to make choices. Tweens and teens being 'regulated' or squelched from drinking a 'Rock Star'--it doesn't affect me much. I've heard of teens near where I live drinking as many of those drinks as they can in a very short amount of time until they puke or hallucinate or both. Just because they are 'herbal' or 'natural' they are just as dangerous in massively high doses as illegal drugs. I'm not against energy drinks, mind you. I drink them myself (I love the diet Rock Star!), I just don't have a problem with stores adopting policies that may very well save them from being named in a lawsuit sometime in the future.
That's my opinion, whatever it may be worth.....

Personally I think the policy may be a little out there, but I think it's understandable. Being 18 I would be able to buy them, but I personally think they're terrible. Like someone above said, I only drink the Starbuck's DoubleShots, or the occasional redbull, only when in extreme need for energy. I'll drink at most one a month probably, usually for long early morning/late night drives, or to get a kick on a morning where I need to be active all day. I stopped drinking soda completely over a year ago, so the caffefine can really screw with me if I have an energy drink now-a-days. These things can be bad news in my opinion, but companies make boatloads of money off of them, charging 3 times as much as a can of coke.

Maybe there should be a limit on HOW MANY energy drinks you buy. I only drink one or two a day at MOST, they're too expensive to buy in large quantities.

Hey! Find wifi or something? And what about that LAN party? That was at least 3 Bawls.

And, y'know those ice cream shops, they always have bartenders and alcoholic drinks in the back rooms...

Seriously I mean if the energy drinks are regulated I mean whats next! I mean if they actually are going to do this I mean maybe they should worry about more important things like people not checking ID's at theaters, or stores not bein careful enough to see that an ID might possibly be fake!

I guess having to be carded makes a *little bit* of sense to me. Though only because I would hate to be at WDW with eleventy billion tweens hyped up on 4 red bulls each.

I'm actually more excited that they sell it down there. Does anyone know if you can actually purchase red bull or any form of energy drink besides coffee within the physical parks?
