Captain's Grille or Cape May Cafe?

We love crablegs, don't care if there are characters or not. Which has better food and atmosphere for 3 adults and an 11 yr old boy? On dining plan. Both menus look good!

I will rarely say that I hate a restaruant. I may not like a particular dish. I may not think a place is worth the price or hype, but very rarely do I outright think a place is horrible.

Cape May Cafe is one of those places.

Granted, I have only eaten there once, so maybe it was on a bad night, but damn near everything on the buffet was bad - and I will happly eat most anything.

I wrote a review somewhere around here. Let me dig it up.

Cape May had a very frenzied atmosphere last night. We did not eat there, but walked past it and there seems to be a mob-like crowd. The CM at the front even said that it was unusual for a Sunday dinner at this time of the year for it to be this packed.

Well said!!! My vote is for Captain's Grille. Matter to fact I ate there about a week and a half ago and my cousin got the crab legs there and said they were delish.

It is a much more relaxed atmosphere compared to Cape May.

I agree completely. I had eaten at Cape May on 2 occassions but it was several years ago, and liked it enough to go a 3rd time in 2009. Of the 5 adults that went that night, none of us were happy enough to say we would go again.

I am trying Captains Grill in 4 weeks. Hope it's as good as the reviews I have read.

Thanks all! Sounds like Captain's Grille is the clear winner. Love your reviews PhoneDave. I do generally prefer ordering from a menu to a buffet but the Cape May menu sounded really good.

I prefer a menu as well. I went to Cape May because it was a post marathon dinner and I was HUNGRY and figured a buffet would let me re-load the calories lost

I have to with what everyone else has said. Its been a really long time since we have been to Cape May but it was just that bad that we have never been able to try it again. We also perfer to order off the menu. We have only had breakfast at CG but it was very good. DD had the buffet and everything was hot and DH and I ordered off the menu. We will try for lunch and/or dinner the next time we are in WDW!!!!

Yeah, This one isn't even close. We really like Captains Grille. It gets lost in the shadow of Yachtsman, but we think Captain's Grille might be the biggest hidden gem in all of WDW

I ate at the Captain two weeks ago. The steak was great. (Not Le Cellier or CA Grill great, but still very good).

Atmosphere was very relaxed, queit, and intimate, as the dining room was over half empty at 7pm.

Waiter was exceptional, very nice, very helpful. A good guy.

Desert: we took it back to the room and ate it later. It was still good.

We were scheduled to eat at Cape May two days later, and skipped it. Sounds like that may have been a good idea after all.

We ate at Cape May Cafe in May 2011.

The food was good - or I should specify the crab legs, mac n cheese and the oreo bon bons were good. We didn't eat much else. The set up of the buffet was weird. Like had multiple openings so once you go so far around - you were running into people that had started some place else.

The service was just so-so. We devoured crab legs like it was our job so our 'crab bucket' was filled rather quickly. She was not quick enough of emptying it. Same with drink refills.

So the service and set up I'd give a C+. But the crab legs, mac n cheese and oreo bon bons gets an A-. I have seen pictures of a lobster tortellini but they didnt have it while we were there.

We have never had a bad meal at either restaurant. Captain's Grille certainly has a calmer atmosphere, and cooked to order food.

I guess I am in the minority for liking Cape May. I wouldn't say it is great, but we all enjoyed it a few years back, and are returning next month for another dinner. We were never at the Captains Grill, will have to try someday.
