Captain EO final show on 12/6 - Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival to be the replacement

But again, why? Not doing ® anything is faster, easier and cheaper.
Because it heads off complaints about that pavilion being horribly dated (and featuring a person in Jackson who is a bit too controversial for Disney these days). The Pixar shorts is relatively easy to do using internal IP and largely existing infrastructure whilst allowing Disney to promote the Pixar brand and being popular with the majority of guests.

This buys them time while they work out what to do with the Pavillion as a whole, which I appreciate may be years off given that the priority is now AK followed by DHS which takes up the next few years' resources.

On a positive note, I wonder exactly what they mean by "imaginative worlds of three animated shorts, which will burst to life on the big screen (and in the theater) like never before."

Just 4D type effects? Or maybe (hopefully) some "real life" characters being involved in the show somehow?

It still surprises me that they did not put Phineas and Ferb in the theatre years ago. That ship has sailed now but they could have had at least a good five year run, maybe longer if the movie was well done. They fit the theme very well and had a slew of good characters for merchandising.

Does anyone know which shorts will be part of this attraction? I think it would be cool if they used the Donald Duck short "Working for Peanuts." It was previously shown at the Magic Kingdom with their Magic Journeys theater. It was also re-released in 3D with Meet the Robinsons in 2007. After watching the short again, I think it would work well with the 4D special effects. Also, it's nice that Chip and Dale are nearby the Imagination pavilion for meet and greets.

Can we all agree that Epcot has the scariest future of any Disney Park in the world?
I agree. Like most I think any major fix comes after AK and most of DHS are done. Probably a lot riding on the success of those projects. If they knock it out of the park and see huge results I think we'll get an awesome Epcot makeover. If not, the park is really in trouble. I'm optimistic but would agree that there is reason for concern. DS will already cannibalize some of Epcot's current market with great new dining and drinking options.

I love Captain EO. It will be missed again... but yikes. When we said Disney could easily replace it with a new film-based attraction considering the amount of shorts and full-length features they pump out each year, we didn't mean to replace it with said shorts.

I tried to watch EO during my last trip to WDW. I didn't even make it through the pre-show. I got bored and hopped a bus to Epcot to get some dinner. Maybe it was a good show after all, but I'll never know. Oh well.

As for its replacement...my god who makes the decisions on attractions these days? A theme-park theater showing clips and shorts you could watch via Netflix/Amazon in the comfort of your own home? THAT'S an "attraction"? Answer: no it's not, it's cheap filler. And all too typical from the Disney company these days. Just when I thought Iger's penury couldn't get any more appalling, he tops himself. I must say he's full of surprises...just not the good kind of surprises. :p

You hopped a bus to Epcot from EO?

I somehow doubt Iger has any knowledge of this minuscule update to a theater he's probably never set foot in.

The fixes to Epcot should be the least costly, and easiest to do. I just see them taking the park in a bad direction.

Overhauls at Imagination and Energy that aren't driven by intellectual properties would be a huge step in the right direction. If that's what's planned for the $350 million that's been rumored I'd be a bit more optimistic. However, I fear that the park is going to turn into established characters with loose thematic ties.

Maybe they actually care about giving us something new. :D

Also, how much money could this change actually cost? Peanuts in my opinion.

At least SOMEONE for a change was thinking in P&R management, Hmmm Soarin's going to be down do we really want to close TWO attractions.
