Captain Cook's reopening

@tikiman, you mentioned that there will be no arcade located at the Poly, but, do you know if they are planning on adding a community hall on property for DVC? Perhaps they will add some video games there, instead. It would be a great addition. My son and his friend enjoyed hanging out at the BWV community hall this past trip. They had an epic game of Jenga going on. Other guests, and even castmembers, were gathered around to see how it would end.

There maybe something for DVC but I was told there would be no replacement of the arcade on property.

At one point it was mentioned the Self-Serve machines were being removed during the refurb. Looking back, it was mentioned that you could get dole whips at a separate location:

This was a while back though and plans may have changed, so just curious what is going on today. Is Cook's opening sans machines while a separate location is built? Are original self serve machines still there? Or?

Dole Whips will not be served at the new Captain Cook's. The Pineapple Lanai is just in the beginning stages of construction but once it opens it will serve Dole products including Dole Whips but they will not be self serve.

We routinely stay at the CR, but take the monorail to have breakfast and lunch once or twice at Captain Cook's. We much prefer it to the Contempo Cafe.

Thanks for confirming. Sounds like we are in a state of no-dole-whip limbo @ poly for the time being.

No more sky high piled yet one priced Dole Whip at 4 AM by the quiet pool for me.

Tis a shame. :(

An even bigger shame is having yet another downgrade and removal of customer service (the whip machine) touted instead as a great improvement by sycophantic apologists.

The once-grand Poly is being turned into a tidied-up bland corporate shell with some Party City tchotchkes, a beach view of some one-percenters' backdoors and an apparently cool bar that you won't be able to get near enough to catch a glimpse.

But some will say, pay no attention to all the stuff that is gone, it's awesome!!

Thanks for the great pictures. I really like the new look, especially those retro posters showcasing the different islands/longhouses. They even used some of the older longhouse names, including Bora Bora, Pago Pago, and Moorea. Perhaps those will be the names for the DVC longhouses (if they don't keep Tahiti, Tokelau, and Rapa Nui)?

As for the menu, it looks pretty similar to before, but I like the addition of a lobster roll and fish tacos. Too bad about the grown-up grilled cheese being removed - we really liked that sandwich.

Overall, this has me feeling more optimistic about the Polynesian's ongoing transformation. There might be some major misfires along the way (Club Disney? More clutter on the lagoon?), but at least a few positive things will come from this.

Agree love the revised look, have always enjoyed it for a snack spot etc. Im still not happy about the lobby, along with the other things mentioned in above post but this is def the right step with captain cooks.

Good riddance to those touch screen ordering machines I say. They clashed horribly and were often glitchy whenever I visited.

I really like the new framed destination pictures on the walls in the seating area (they're classy and have a retro vibe to them), and the new hanging ceiling light fixtures are pretty nice as well. The chairs i'm not as bit of a fan of. The new bamboo design isn't terrible in of itself (they may even be more comfortable than the old ones), but the old chairs had a more elaborate leaf design that I liked a lot (much less generic). The new upholster on the booths is very generic, as are the bland new tabletop designs compared to the old ones. I'm also not a fan of the new flooring either.

Here's a picture of the seating area pre-refurb for comparison to Steve's pics in the link above-
