Honestly I just wish people would watch a trailer and decide for themselves weather or not the movie looks good
I think most do exactly that. The problem I see is when a trailer looks bad or meh and people say that. The goalpost moves and it's all, it's just a trailer, don't judge it until you see it. That was a huge problem in the mermaid thread. You see it over and over in the movie threads. "Imagine actually seeing the movie before you judge it". Sure, I've seen some say the movies are terrible after seeing the trailer. Instead of saying something like, in my opinion it looks like it could be terrible. But that's not near the majority that I've seen.

All we really have is the trailers to go by until the movie releases. And it's their job to sell us on the film. As someone said earlier, the trailers show the best of a movie. Most people understand this so when you see a trailer and go, ehhhhhh, not great. That says a lot in my opinion. Because if that's the best? It's by no means a death sentence or a certain failure. But it does give a film an uphills climb right off the bat for sure.

I agree that you can decide wheather or not a film looks good to you based on the trailer seems to me that the problem in the mermaid thread was not people saying I don’t like the way the trailer looks versus people who haven’t seen the movie leaping in on certain criticisms without our having seen the movie that is an uninformed opinion of course correct me if I’m wrong I haven’t read the thread EDIT I have now realized I am demonstrating an uninformed opinion because I haven’t read the thread I will leave this up as an example of what I am talking about

I've seen plenty of good trailers for what ended up being bad movies, but I can only think of one example of the reverse- Office Space. The brilliance of that film's comedy simply can't translate through a truncated preview.

Ultimately, though, it's the studio's job to convince me that a movie is worth seeing, and if the trailer doesn't do that, I don't think it's my duty to "give the movie a chance". I've got other things that I can do with my time and money.

Unfortunately, so much of the mermaid thread was sent to Davey Jones locker. But I can say, my criticism of what was in the trailer was met with a lot of pushback. Things like the CG, character design art direction... All tangible things to make a decision to see the film. As I said, yes, people did make definitive statements on the film being bad without seeing it. But also keep in mind there were people defending it, crabbing at people who didn't see it, all while not seeing it themselves. So that's really a wash because both were a small portion.

In the end, the concerns for a lot of us, are on full display with cap4s trailers. Do I hope it surprises me? Yup, I'm a big Mackie fan. Concerns when trailers are released are no less valid than praise in my opinion. That said, am I going to say after a few reviews and not seeing it, see, total failure! No.

For perspective.. what have you thought about the recent Marvel movies?
Deadpool & Wolverine
The Marvels
Guardians
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Deadpool was a nice send off to the fox x-men but that sense of humor just doesn’t appeal to me the marvels was better than no way home and I will die on that hill and I’m a big spider-man fan wakanda and guardians I didn’t enjoy that much when I saw them in the theaters but I might enjoy them more if I rewatched them I was going through some personal stuff for a while so that might have affected my opinion on certain movies from 2021 to 2022 quantummania was fine kang was the highlight for sure

I agree. I don't owe any movie studio anything. I have limited time and funds for entertainment. A family of 5 isn't cheap to go see a movie. So it's their job to hook me. A bad to mediocre trailer can very much determine if we go see something. The Cap 4 trailers didn't do a whole lot to make me want to see it, so I'll most likely wait till streaming. I know some here find that anti Disney for some reason. But as I said, I'm not obligated to give the benefit of the doubt to Disney just because I'm a fan and it's Disney. They need to earn it.

My days of giving Disney the benefit of the doubt are over.

Typically trailers are good at identifying useless filler movies

Very good at that…actually

TLM is right down Broadway for that

That was one of the most enlightening threads ever

Longest run on sentence I’ve seen in awhile.
