Candlelight Processional?

Yes, it really is an amazing experience. I've been to it many times and it is becoming more and more popular. There was once a time where you could walk up and pretty much sit down for any the CP shows, but now that is no longer the case. It's best to make the dining plans and get the priority seating, besides if you're going to eat dinner that night somewhere it just makes sense to do the CP package and not have to worry.

Thanks! It sounds like it would be a pretty amazing experience.
It is a very amazing show. I would highly recommend getting the dinning package if you plan to attend. In years past it was pretty easy to walk up 1/2 an hour before the show and grab a seat, especially during the first 2 weeks of December. That is no longer the case. Last year I personally witnessed stand by lines that could have been measured in the hundreds of feet and the reserved seating lines weren't much shorter. All this was on a weeknight during the first 2 weeks of December which historically is one of the slowest times of the year.

What celebrities have don the Candlelight Processional in the past, and who is doing it this year?

This year's narrators have not been announced, it will probably be around the end of July. The link I gave you above has last year's narrators listed. It does vary a bit year to year, but you do so a lot of the same people coming back because they enjoy doing the narration very much. I know Gary Sinse, Levar Burton have done it in the past for a number of years, it just depends on their schedules.

i went to the CP and totally enjoyed it it was such an amazing experience. it was some thing i never expected but was glad i went to watch it.

the CP is a xmas story with choir and there is a guest narrarator (i saw john stamos who was by far the best and steven curtis chapman). they tell you an xmas story while the choir who are made up of school kids, adults and WDW CM's. they sing xmas songs and do such a wonderful job.

you can line up like what i did or you can go with the dinner package. the atmosphere and area where the CP is is just so christmassy they have xmas tree lights on the trees and xmas trees in the corners of the stage.

i got seats by the stage when i went all 3 times. it truely is an experience that i will never forget i had such a wonderful time as it was something that i never expected.

The Candlelight Processional is one of the highlights of the holiday season at WDW. We saw Brian Denehy narrate a few years ago. It is a memorable experience. I would recommend the CP dinner package. We'll be there this November. Can't wait.:xmas:

We were at the Candlelight Processional on December 20th when Marlee Matlin was there. She "told" the Christmas story using sign language and Jack Jason stood to the side and spoke the words she signed. It was beautiful and fascinating to watch. At the end, she spoke her own Christmas wishes to the audience. It was great.

This was our first Christmas at Disney World and the Candlelight Processional was one of the best treats we enjoyed. We did the dinner package and ate at Le Cellier after the 5:00 show. All in all, one of the best Disney memories we have collected!

I was just thinking, how did that work out?

They both did an outstanding job! We were moved to tears, and you could tell how much it meant to Marlee to be involved with this. She signed with incredible enthusiasm. I would love to see her again.

There is nothing quite like the Candelight Processional. What a truly magical experience it is to be seated in the America Gardens Theatre experiencing the moving sights, sounds, and words of this performance in the weeks before Christmas. It really gets you in the spirit. As Steven Curtis Chapman says, "if this doesn't light your fire, then your wood is wet."

The Candlelight Processional is one of the few parts of modern WDW entertainment to have been created by Walt himself. During Christmas 1956, Walt mentioned to DL Entertainment that he wanted carolers on Main Street; that simple group of carolers evolved into the Candlelight Processional. During WDW's early years, the event was held at the MK, but its enormous popularity necessitated the move to Epcot.

The Candlelight Processional recounts the first Christmas and combines it with stunning vocal arrangements and celebrity narrators.

Since it is extremely popular, you need to either stand in line to see the show, or you can book a dinner/CP package (180 days in advance). Epcot features two shows each night; the second show is usually less crowded, and ends about 15 minutes before Illuminations begins. The shows usually start around Thanksgiving. If you're going to be at WDW during the holidays, SEE THE SHOW!

And have a Merry Christmas while you're at it. :xmas:

Please don't flame me, I'm just curious and I'm not trying to start anything. I just want to know more about it. Is it specifically Christian? Or is it just a general, holiday storytelling/song performance? (i.e. just traditional carols? or more like a specific Jesus story?)

Thanks,
-m

The story and music are decidedly biblical, with the only general song being "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." Everything else is primarily the Christmas story as told in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. As I mentioned before, this is one of the few pieces of live entertainment that Walt created that still exists, and I'd hate to see it leave. But since it's a huge money-maker, I highly doubt that the CP will go anywhere anytime soon. ;)

I personally am a Christian, but won't flame you for the understandable question. (Speaks in a loud voice) And I hope that no one else sees the need to do something immature like that. :D

Honestly, I think that turning the event into a general "Holiday" event would be much less special and too bland. All shows need to have storytelling convictions. (I really do feel that way, regardless of whether or not I personally agree with the conviction!)

Its also one of my favorite parts of the Christmas season in WDW. I'm a Christian also so of course it has special meaning to me, but I think anyone that loves Christmas music would love it. The singers, music, etc. all are so well done.

Don't miss it!! I enjoy the later show as the dark setting with the lights, candles, etc look so much better.

FYI...even if you do a dinner package, which I also suggest you do...people start lining up for entry about 45 min. before the show. Its not assigned seating. If you do the dinner package you will get a seat no matter what but more limited choice if you don't wait in line.

Are you allowed to videotape it?

I wouldn't want to sit there holding the camera for all of it (since we don't get to go to WDW that often) but mabye just 5-10 minutes or something like that.
