Can you talk louder than the Ghost Host? (An I need to vent post.)

Okay, I know that there’s recently been a thread about guests talking during attractions, but I didn’t want to post this there, because I badly need to vent. :D Is there anyone else that can’t stand it, when you walk into the Haunted Mansion, make your way into the stretching room, and everyone’s chatting- no wait, yelling at the top of their lungs, as if playing the "Can You Speak Louder Than the Ghost Host?" game. :fork: Ugh! I mean, this is suppose to be a quite, mysterious, creepy moment, not an I’ve-got-headphones-on-so-I-can’t-hear-you convention! *takes deep breath* Okay… I’m done venting! hahaha :lookaroun

P.S. Just for an example, I’m putting the URL to a video for an example.

It's like that all over the world in Haunted Mansions (Phantom Manors) .. maybe they want to overtalk their fear. I don't think I have a single recording where there is no chatter or "there's always my way" screamin ... oddly enough after the stretch room most peeps stop chatting ... and the doombuggy queue is ok again

I have video of my 1987 trip to the HM and even back then people can be heard talking over the ghost host and repeating the dialog out loud. It is very irritating.

I rarely ride HM. And the last time I rode it was Jan. to see the new additions by myself(and Im not big on the whole spooky/haunted stuff so that was a big step for me lol) And oddly enough I remember it being pretty quiet in the stretching room. I think it was because the park had just opened. It was an emh and it was 9 when that part of MK opened. I was in fantasyland waiting just to get on that. WHen I walked past I noticed most people werent going to the mansion, so I was like Im not going in there first, so I had to wait a few seconds to see a few people pouring in lol. Thats alittle OT, but oh well.

If you were at grad nite in the Haunted Mansion you would have gone on a rampage. Everybody in the stretching room was talking at the top of their lungs and screaming in the dark so you couldn't hear the Ghost host at all. I know it is grad nite, with a bunch of teenagers and that is expected, but i still got annoyed.

I find people do it alot when watching the video in TOT. They talk all the way through it, or repeat the dialogue over the top (I'm sorry, peeps, but you're voice just isn't as good as his!) or, the one thing I really hate is when they scream and you know they're just doing it for attention!

this is weird because I rarely get the regular everyday conversation going on... a little but I always can hear the "ghost host fine"

HOWEVER... I ALLLLLWWWWWAAAAAYYYYYYSSSSS get the people who narrate along with the Ghost Host...

look... obviously most of us here on this forum are absolute diehards of Disney... we all know what they say and all the narrations and we can all talk along with them... I don't mind when people say it if it's not loud... but I ALWAYS get the people who try to become the Ghost Host and talk over him... but again, not everyday conversation... doing the narration...

I get this in RnRC all the time too... ToT... any show with one of these pre-shows basically...

again, we all know it and tendecies incline us to talk with it... i even do it to my GF sometimes to annoy her... but not at the top of my lungs so that it sounds like I'm trying to be the attraction...

I know exactly what you are saying. Most people hear it one time and than they don't care to hear it again, so they talk. For some reason people do not care if they bother or ruin an experience for someone else. It is all about them, and once they enjoy it once than no one else matters. I swear I don't understand people anymore. :brick:

I lip-sync to some of the narrations, HM included, but I wouldn't talk full volume and try to drown it out. What I really can't stand are those people who have to yell for no reason. I mean, honestly...you're not to first person to have tried that. And it doesn't make you awesome for trying it either. :D

On the opposite end of this is the night that we had the spookiest time in that room.

It was late. There were only about a half dozen of us in the room.
For some reason it was really spooky with only a few people there and total silence.

If you get a chance, and get lucky, try visiting the HM late at night when there are almost no people in line.

'There's always room for one....'

I'm traveling soon with a Disney Newbie and I hate the thought of a bunch of people ruining any of these attractions for her.

I assume the people that are talking have been In HM before and they must have liked it if they're on again so why ruin it.

I don't get people sometimes. :brick:

When we just went in March we went very late, like 11pm or 12am midnight and we were practically the only ones there. One time we were the last ones on the ride and we went through the stretching room and queue with only our group and 3 other people. It was dead quiet and the cast members had some fun scary us.

But I've also been when people talk over the audio. I hate that. I find it mostly with people who don't speak English and therefore the audio doesn't mean too much to them, so they talk with their group. I also don't like it when someone delivers the punchline to a joke right before the line is delivered, just to prove they know it. I had a woman at Muppets 3D that did that for the whole show, I was about to hit her in the head.

OK, I just have to say THANK YOU for this thread. I had not been to WDW since being a kid and when my partner and I went last year, the first really exciting attraction we hit was TOT. I'm a huge Twilight Zone fan and when we got into the room with the video, people were talking so loudly that I couldn't here what Rod was saying!!! It was so shocking and frustrating and overall, a giant disappointment. I mean, so much work went into setting the mood for that attraction from the moment you walk up to it, through the mist and into the creepy lobby. I was somewhat wrecked by people's rudeness and found the whole thing frustrating.

However, once we were strapped in and the ride was moving, people got quiet and the whole thing was fantastic. After a few days of touring and then hitting the Haunted Mansion, I realized that talking during the "instructional" or video intro is normal at WDW and I've come to accept it (even though I would rather it not be that way). If I don't accept it, I'll just boil into a psychotic rage where I'm about to explode on people, ESPECIALLY THE ADULTS doing it. I just want to scream at them to "shut the F up!", which isn't all that Disney. So acceptance is the key as I'm not going to be able to change all those people anytime soon.

I also get the sense that the talking comes from people who are Disney "regulars" and have attended these attractions before. They feel like "yeah yeah yeah, heard it, know it, have it memorized". Which is so selfish and rude to the folks riding something for the first time. Not to mention, stuff like the stretching room and waiting area for TOT is as good to me (if not better) than the main attraction. It's these nuanced elements that set Disney apart from an ordinary theme park.

It happens alot and it is very fustrating!! I am a Disney regular but I dont talk over it at all. I like to listen very closely to see if I can hear something new no matter what ride im on, and when people are talking it really aggravates me to no end. Thats why I stopped going with one of my sisters because she doesnt get the DISNEY MAGIC and doesnt stop talking no matter what ride we are on!! Those people just dont get the magic

All I can say is that I am glad I’m not alone! :sohappy: My cousin was reading my thread, and came up with a great idea! They should have a sign just outside the entrance reading: Quite please! Funeral in progress! :ROFLOL:

That's a great idea!

In reality though, I honestly think that's just how audiences are nowadays and it's futile to let it get to you (as SanFrancisco mentioned). Personally, I think what Disney should do is take note of this and maybe consider altering the experience so that people will WANT to pay attention every time. They certainly have the technology now to do some cooler things. I mentioned this in another thread on this topic, but I think it would be cool if every time you went into the stretching room, it was a different experience and maybe there would be some really cutting edge effects and some cool surprises. I think that would give people incentive to pay attention each time. Just a thought. The whole design of Disneyland was largely based on studying things like the movement of crowds and how people behave in general. But that was back in the 1950's. I sometimes think that what Disney does nowadays is they design a show or attraction and expect the guests to modify their behavior accordingly. That's always going to be a futile effort. Its like when you go to the movies nowadays, people are always talking, regardless of how creatively they convey the request to "please refrain from talking". All the posted signage in the world is not going to stop people from doing what they just naturally do. I think Disney needs to go back to the drawing boards in how they design a lot of their shows and attractions, and really study how people behave in those scenarios in present day.

You have no idea how bad people talking along with the Ghost Host can be till you visit the HM in DL. Because most of the people seem to be AP holders it is next to impossible to be in the stretching room with out a hand full of idiots talking along with it.....yes I get it you know it by heart, but what about the people who have never been before and this could be their only visit! My nieces were crying the first times they went into the HM not because of how scary it was but all the other people talking in spooky voices and yelling and screaming at the same time.

I have found that people all around the Disney worlds are rude and love to talk in attractions......try seeing Impressions of France with me some time... but WDW HM is tame for people talking along if you put it up against DL's.
