Can you plan a trip in 90 days?

In my past experience (limited to watching my parents) I've seen the planning process spread out over close to a year. However now that I'm mostly grown up, my wife and I started talking about planning a tip for the last week in June this year.

Is this reasonably easy? What kind of challenges or limitation will I face in trying to do this? Thanks in advance!

Three reasons why 90 days would be a problem for me:

1) some discount offers already past or fully booked

2) best ADRs already gone

3) cheap tickets on non-stop flights all gone

See last post.....All this adds up to a less then stellar experience, not to mention costing you more money. Why not go in late august or early September?

I could plan a trip in 3 days! Granted you might not get to eat at all your first choices and you probably wouldn't be able to take advantage of any price discounts, but if someone asked if I could be ready, and money wasn't an issue, I'd be there!

I could probably plan a vacation in 90 seconds since the extent of my planning ahead is just the choosing of the days I am going to go. I usually just figure everything out when I get there so I end up doing whatever I want when I feel like it. I could see making dining plans but I usually cook my own meals since the place I stay at has a full kitchen. I'm on vacation, I dont like to feel like I Have to do anything.

I think you can. I booked in December 2010 for late February 2011 and didn't have any problems. I got the only two ADRs I was interested in and the resort I wanted, but it wasn't peak season. I will add that I booked our room through the runDisney team, but I don't know how much that helped us.

Sure you can. I've done it many times. Sometimes we book as late as 2 weeks ahead. If you're going to be staying for awhile or somehow an AP works to your benefit, you can usually still snag some great Room Only discounts.

I think it's totally possible... I mean- it may not be as easy as being booked 180 days or more out, but I had a friend who went the week leading up to Christmas in 2011 and booked everything for their trip/stay at POP in October (so almost 2.5 months out). Granted- she knew she wanted to go much earlier and I booked all of her hard to get dining for her at the respective 180 day marks, but she still managed to make it work and got her discount. Also, for dining- if you're willing to stalk the website- you can almost always get what you want for dining...especially with the new credit card policy. And while air is crazy these days- I've always found the best prices in our area about 2-3 mos before travel. I say at least try.

You definitely can do it!

If you can get good prices/price doesn't bother you - and you realize that you might not get your first choice for dinner reservations (which is fine, because there's always something new or old favourites to try) then you definitely can!

I'm wishing that I had the option of planning a 90-days-out trip right about now!

Good luck! Don't be discouraged!

Last year I made all the reservations on Sunday and my son and I flew on Wednesday. Our flight was with Southwest Airlines and we got a good deal. Our trip was from Wednesday through Sunday and the weekend we were there was during Memorial Day Weekend. I didn't make any dining reservations. We just planned on counter service meals and hoped for a couple of table service. We were able to get into SCI FI Diner for lunch and the Garden Grill. It was one of the best trips. So it is possible to do 90 days. The funny thing is I never had done anything like this before. I usually plan my trips at least 9 months out. Good Luck and have a great time.

Thanks a lot for all of the responses everyone! I think I'm going to give it a shot. If I can't get the ADRs that I want I'll still live. I haven't been there in 6 years so I'll enjoy it no matter what.

I just booked a trip for a client for the end of June. Didn't have a problem with getting the room they wanted. ADR's were a little tough, but if you mind eating late, all restaurants were available. Ideally, 7 to 6 months is ideal, but 90 days is still fine. Had another client book a spring break trip with only 60 days.

I have been planing trips for over 15 years now with each trip being schedule at or about a year out. But in 36 days I will be in the world it will be flying by the seat of my pants. I have no tickets booked yet and NO ARD's  All I have is a restort booked and hoping in about 20 days I will be able to change it. As long as you keep an open mind about where to stay and ADR's anything can be done. I say go for it!! Deals are out there you just have to look!! :D

I have planned a trip and 30 and 60 days and did not have many issues. I might not have gotten the ADR's i wanted but I got some time off from work and enjoyed it in Disney. What more could you want.

Planning

I never plan. I live about 1.5 hours away so getting there is no problem. I've gotten up on Sunday morning and said.. "hey lets go to Disney!" Pack up the car and drive down to Orlando and spent a few days. You may not get to stay in the Hotel you want but other than that no concerns.

The first time DH and I went to WDW, had no idea how lucky we were. :ROFLOL: We were in another part of FL, and we just decided, let's drive over to Disney and check it out for a few days. Hopped in a car, drove up to Dixie Landings--the first resort we drove past-- went up to the counter, said we'd like a room, and got a fantastic one! Granted this was early December, but it was magical in it's own way. And, in comparison, 90 days is a crazy amount of time. Totally do-able!

Of course, now it seems I'm always planning a trip. I've been planning our next trip for a year already, and hoping we can go next March...
