Can Walt Disney World get any larger anymore?

It can easily get bigger. I know some of the land (not sure how much) is wildlife preserve. But I'm sure there is still plenty of space for new gates, resorts, giant hats, wands, etc. :ROFLOL:

This topic has been brought up before and if I am remembering correctly some one posted a satilite photo that had a color coded overlay that showed how much land was left to develop and how much was set aside for the animals.

Even without building a new park or resort, they can build enough additional attractions for billions of bucks. In EPCOT there is space for at least 6 additional nations in WS, the MK has several designated expansion areas, one in the southwest of Adventureland, large enough to easily double the size of AL; DAK has plenty of undeveloped area, larger then the entire MK and even some of the developed areas are actually only (mostly poorly done) stand-ins for greater things to come (Beastly Kingdomme), Camp Minnie-Mickey, Dino-Rama area etc. DHS is also easily expandable.

And Disneyforlife is absolutely right, there is absolutely no necessity for a fifth park with all! four existing ones needing additions a lot.

DAK- Half-day park with far to few rides

DHS- Not exactly a half-time parks anymore but definitely in need of some additions

EPCOT - Severely outdated or bland in parts and NO additions to WS in 22 years!

MK - Tomorrowland a mess, Adventureland with no mentionable and well-done additions for more than 35 years (PotC was the last major change, the stupid carpets were a only a major mistake)

There is enough to do in the existing parks and that for years to come.

Can it get bigger? Sure. The land it there in which to expand on.

The real question is should it get bigger and in the case of the parks that answer is a resounding not yet.

Remember over half the land that is left isn`t suitable for building.

It seems to me they could figure out something for these areas. Jungle treks, themed campgrounds without facilities (self contained units only), golf driving ranges, 'crafted' wildlife/nature trails showcasing Florida flora/fauna, skeet shooting range, archery range, canoe trails....

I agree with others, we don't need more parks to go to, we need the ones there to just get a "facelift" and new attraction added in. I don't get the park hopper passes as it is so I wouldn't want to see another park built, just to end up racing all around to each park.

Definitely don't need more resorts, as I think there are plenty already. Don't want to see Disney end up having to close a resort for a good long while due to the economy or another attack causing a decline, like what happened with French Quarter.

sure, there is a lot of land still. Remember Walt bought 47.00 sq miles of land (30,080 acres)

But he also reserved 1/3 of that, and Eisner built Celebration, which took up another nearly 5000 acres. A couple of weeks back, I saw a RCID report which had a map of the WDW property. Areas of land that were suitable for construction were scarce, and one of the few large enough for a reasonably large park and resort area is going to be developed for the Four Seasons complex and Golden Oaks.

I don't believe Disney has the land anymore to build a very large fifth gate. A few small parks, maybe, but I can't see an Epcot sized park without building on land that's considered "partially suitable." I do agree that the fifth gate should be the least of our worries, Disney has plenty to do in the four parks that are there now, and there's plenty of expansion room in each.

When we were there in about either 2002 or 2003, we were told on the big behind the scenes tour that Disney had developed 1/3 or the land that they had purchased. They told us 1/3 had to be reserved for wildlife/wetlands. This means that they could double what they have currently built. That boggles the mind a bit.

We were told the same thing on the Inspiration Through Walt's Eyes tour last month. That 1/3 is currently free to be developed upon.
