This past summer on the sailing Ship Columbia in DL, there were pirates on board. They also made it look like the BP for the night of the movie premier only. Perhaps your friend has combined these 2 things in his mind somehow.
As for SSL-anyone that says SGE is the worst attraction ever did not ride SSL. It has been reported that even though surveys at DCA would continually show that people thought there were too few attractions, they also showed that people had a better overall experience with SSL closed. Probably read that from Al Lutz, but can't recall for sure.
A bientot.
Superstar Limo was an unfairly maligned attraction. It was one of the few my friends and I visited almost every time I went to California Adventure. Maybe a part of that was because it rarely had a line, but no matter. It had a quirky sense of humor about it that we found enjoyable. About the only part of the attraction I didn't care for was the Joan Rivers puppet making loud announcements about the arrival of stars on the televisions in the queue. Otherwise, I felt California Adventure could have used a few more attractions just like it.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Monsters, Inc. attraction that took its place, but I still feel they should have existed side-by-side...especially now that Hollywood and Dine and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire are permanently closed. Much of left side of the backlot is all but abandoned (there's not even a show currently going on on the outdoor stage); every attraction helps.
For the original poster, here's a synopsis of the attraction: you're an up-and-coming star in Hollywood and you must get from the airport to the premiere of your movie. Along the way, a monitor to your left comes on every now and then and your agent (a Spitting Imagish puppet) urges you to hurry up. You go through various areas of Hollywood, passing mostly B-list stars along the way (Cher, Regis, Jackie Chan, Drew Carey, Cindy Crawford, etc.) and hearing snarky comments from a disembodied Hollywood-ish voice. You pass through a movie studio, where an odd movie featuring singing chickens and pigs is going on, and eventually meet up with Whoopi Goldberg at the premiere. All in all, I feel this is truly one of the most misunderstood of attractions, followed closely by:
Stitch's Great Escape! I'll once again defend this attraction by saying it was one of the best of the new attractions I went on when I visited Disney World earlier this year. LMA flat out sucked, the Narnia walk-through was a joke, and Soarin' is okay (but it has never really impressed me as much as it seems to impress the rest of the world...and it's already in California Adventure so it was old hat to me), and Everest was great (though strangely slow at first). I actually can't wait to do Stitch again when I'm there in a little over a month. Like last time, I may even do it twice.
