Can kids ever be too young for Disney?

101 Dalmatians maybe? Only bad thing about them is they dont have a presence in the parks. Most Disney movies do experience a tragedy of some sort so I guess you just have to be careful on which one you pick to show them.

I've always thought bringing babies to WDW was pointless and they are way too young to go. My older sister brought each one of her kids before they were 18 months, I think her first daughter was about 6-7 months when they went. I've always wondered why until this thread, it does make sense to go for the memories you (the parents) get with your baby there. Although your baby wont rememeber you will and that does mean something, not to mention the pics too.

This is true. I know some kids who were scarred of the Beast but my kids loved him! I would try to just avoid movies that you think have scary parts. Cinderella is pretty good, 101 Dalmatians, Winnie the Pooh, Disney Junior, maybe peter pan and dumbo.

We spent our honeymoon at Walt Disney World and I remember a lot of people, guests and cast members telling us “If you have children don’t bring them here until they’re at least 5 years of age they won’t remember it” My dear wife treated this advice as gospel and we didn’t take our son until he was 7 years old.

Looking back, that was ridiculous. We took our son to Sesame Place and Hershey Park before age 5 and he remembers both. I’m now of the philosophy that if you’re together and everyone is having fun go for it, just pace yourself.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't bring a child until roughly 5 or so. I think that's about the time I started going to DL and I have some great memories. I don't have a problem with other people that bring newborns and stuff, I just wouldn't want to keep up with a stroller and diaper bag and all of that jazz.

Now with us, we didn't go to WDW until 2008, so our kids were already 8 and 7, and they absolutely love the place. Now they're 11 and 10 and can't wait to go back. I just wished they had it as good as I did, since I went about 5-6 times a year to DL as a kid.

Theres a reason that kids under 3 get in for free, and its not because Disney is being generous: Its because they won't remember.

The OP has clarified that he is not asking if kids can be too young for WDW. His question was strictly about Disney movies....can kids be too young for Disney movies?? He also asked for movie suggestions for his little neice, 15 months.
The too young for Disney debate just goes back and forth here, everyone should do what they think right for their family....there is no right answer for everyone. :D

actually it's probably more because kids under 3 aren't participating in much and don't get taken to the parks

I took a newborn to US/IOA no problems. I used a carriage style stroller. She slept most of the day and just chilled out for the walk.

I don't think children can ever be too young, but not every family can handle taking a young child to Disney. If that makes any sense.

I've never really understood the argument of "but they're too young to remember it!" The parents are going to have very special memories and it's going to be a fun experiance at the time. I mean I can understand if going to Disney is going to be a once in a lifetime thing for a family, but if you intend to take your children throughout their childhood, I don't see why it matters if they remember it or not.

Agreed. I understand not wanting to go because you don't want to deal with a baby on vacation... the other reason doesn't really cut it for me. I feel like it's an excuse.

I probably won't take a baby to WDW. To the beach? I could do that. Cabin in the mountains. Sure thing. Anything type of vacation that involves laying around and taking in the scenery I would do with a baby, but not the active, involved kind like Disney. Of course I say that now...

I am sure that I am going to get flack for saying this but I do believe that there is a "too young" for disney world

I get that once you have kids you want to take them as soon as possible but I think that you should wait until they will remember going. I have friends that say all the time "The only time I went to Disney World was when i was 1 years old and have no memory, every time I try to ask if we can go again, my parents always say 'You have been already, that is more than some kids can say' and then I drop it"

I understand that most of have probably either planned more trips or been on more trips when they remember but I have never understood why people take ifants to WDW  ......but that is just my opinion

Again people, while I appreciate your input, I am NOT asking whether you think a child is ever too young to go to WDW.
I'm asking if a child is ever too young to WATCH disney movies, and what movies would you recommend.

I think im going to go with Alice in Wonderland and Finding Nemo - nothing too scary in either of them I dont think.

When I was a toddler somewhere between 15-18 months (according to my mother) I would want to watch Beauty and the Beast over and over again... good times.

The old hag (Queen Grimhilde) from Snow White used to scare the crap out of me.

I would suggest Beauty and the Beast so she'll have some class later in life, and Finding Nemo so she can grow up to be likie Dory. :)

If it is for a build-up to go to the WDW, I would recommend The Adventures of Winne the Pooh(classic) and Toy Story(pixar). It is more likely that you will run into these characters and she will have seen them and they will be a little more familiar.

never to young

my son was a little over a year the first time we went. Everyone told us he wouldn't remember it even Drs. The only good advice from a Dr. was that even if he didn't remember specific things there is so much visual and audio stimulation that it would help him learn. Between the music, sites and different languages heard throughout the parts he may talk earlier. He did start talking early. not sure if the parks help but we had a blast. In fact. We went back about 6 months later. Shockingly we walked in to Epcot and he pointed toward the seas with Nemo and said "Nemo is that way". No Joke. He was right of course and we almost fell over. So much for kids not remembering. Now we are headed soon for our 5th trip. He knows everything about the parks.
I personally feel that when kids are having fun no matter what age they will pick up and learn all kinds of things. They are little sponges.

some of the movies are ok.

Remember almost all of them have an element of Evil. We started our son out with Cars for a full movie. He loves it. Then Nemo and Toy Story. Best thing so far has been the short film collections. Ie, the complete Donald or Mickey color/black n white. Have a Laugh, etc. The short films are awesome. My son watches them all the time. Latest one is Chip n Dale so I actually just bought him Rescue Rangers Season 1.

Well, your title is "Can Kids Ever be too Young for Disney?" It doesn't specify movies and this is a forum about the PARKS so you are going to get PARK discussion. Honestly, I think it's a dumb question to ask if a child is too young to watch a Disney movie, no matter the villian. It's up to the parents and family for each movie. If mom and dad are ok with it, what do our opinions matter?? Same with taking a baby to the park. It's up to mom, dad, or caregiver.

I don't think kids are ever "too young" for Disney. They will just experience it in a different way at, say, 18 months than at 4 years old. Even babies love Mickey and friends, so there's something for them to enjoy. And nothing is cuter than watching a baby's face light up when they get to see their favorite character or get a balloon with their face on it. :)

Finding Nemo is definitely a good choice. I loved Alice in Wonderland as a kid, my sister and I have the whole thing memorized. My kids never really took to it, no matter how much I pushed it. Worth a shot though since it isn't scary...creepy here and there.

A little harsh calling the OPs question dumb. I think he's just a thoughtful Uncle and not a father himself looking for a starting point on dvd picks. Thats what the boards are for, kind and helpful guidance from people with the same main interest, right? . I agree that his choice for a thread title has people a little mislead here but let's play nice. :D
