It will probably have to go through x-ray but this will have no damaging effect on it. I work in an airport and we would insist on it going through the x-ray, I'm not sure if this will be the same everywhere but it should be according to regulations.
The arch that you will have to pass through has been shown to be more likely to damage photographic or electronic equipment, such as a laptop than the x-ray machine.

I read that 400 speed film might get hurt and these are 400 speed.

Here's our suggestions:

Do not put any unprocessed film in baggage, regardless of film speed.
Do not put 400 speed film or higher in your carry-on, or pass it through an x-ray machine.
Place your film and camera in a clear plastic bag. Hand it to a guard at the security gate

They will make you put it through the X-Ray. If you try to walk it through they will tell you to put it on the belt. Regular film though will not be damaged by the X-Ray.

That's not necessary. Airport x-rays will not harm your film at all.

1600 speed or more could get damaged. All others are safe. I worked in a lab for many years and there were always inquaries about this. If you are unsure, most travel stores sell a small bag lined with lead that can fit a camera and some film. It looks like a lunch bag.

The screeners have a separate basket where you put your laptop....it gets screened differently. (I haven't traveled with one, so I really didn't see WHAT they did with them; I just saw a sign and people putting them in a basket and handing them to a screener) There is a table on the other side of the x-rays where security does "physical" inspections...perhaps they are brought there.

as i recall my husbands laptop was thourghly searched, and it went through the xray machine as well both in Dallas and Orlando. It did not hurt it, just be sure to catch it at the end...
some people were grabbing things and walking away pretty quick.

I've had the following go through the airport xrays within the past year or so:

Laptop (many times for work travel)
Digital cameras (sony memory sticks), digital videocamera (mini-dv tapes)
Disposable cameras

Never have I had a problem in the slightest.

As I said, there will be no probs but it will have to go through the x-ray. Have you any idea how many cameras pass through the average airport each day compared to the number of reported problems?:brick:

Yes...you are probably right, but I always carry a film (lead lined) bag, to store m;y film or disposable cameras in, just to make sure. I leave it in the tray to be hand inspected.
