To some of us HSM is like a red hot poker up the jaxi, except in the ears.

not sure I could have said it better myself.:ROFLOL:

I just wonder when Disney will start putting out more visual media, TV and movies, that are not based on preteen drama. Oh, yeah, and the subtle, underhanded, preteen sexuality exploration, shhhhhhh, no one said anything. Not saying it's not a million times worse on almost every other TV channel, but this is Disney, and I don't see any reason for them to show off underage boys without shirts, or underage girls (particularly of the pre 16-17 age) dressing in tight clothes, make-up, chasing boys, and causing inter-friend, fri-enemy, drama. Call me old-fashioned (I'm only 26) but I have two sisters, one 13, one 14, so I have seen way more examples than I care to remember, and they love this stuff, but I can't help but think Disney could do far more to create life-long franchises that are geared more toward imagination, interpersonal skills, critical thinking, creativity, and the like. Just my opinion.

Oh and don't give me the purity argument, I understand if all of their artists and actors take their pledge to remain pure, which in all honesty can't be a bad influence for kids of that age, but it certainly doesn't stop Disney from pimping out their young stars.

People keep mentioning the boys without shirts- I don't even remember that part. And while I'm definitely appalled with some of the things I see, and movies and TV shows have turned up the skeeze factor to an all time high..... I don't include Disney shows in that at all....????? Tight clothes? They're high schoolers- are they still supposed to be wearing baggy t-shirts and pants? It wasn't like there was cleavage falling out the top, I don't even think girls' stomachs showed?? And what's wrong with "chasing boys" at that age... isn't every high school aged girl a bit boy crazy? That, along with the "friend drama" is actually a very diluted version of what high school really is. I don't think it was out of line at all :veryconfu In fact, they held hands at the end! They didn't even kiss! I'm fairly conservative myself, and I had no problems whatsoever with the way they portrayed the girls in the show....

I haven't seen the movie so I can't judge it. But I have read adult posts as well as heard other adults drooling about the teens with their shirts off (one adult which is a middle school teacher). I don't think Disney knows that it's putting that temptation out there publically for these creeps to view.

All I will say to add to this is that you are spot on with this. This is also why most likely Joe & Demi did not kiss since Joe is 18 (of age) & Demi is only 16. Joe was shirtless for maybe 7 sec. at the most because he was getting out of the water from swimming & last I checked 90% of guys swim without a shirt on. Before anyone judges how Disney made choices with the movie either on how they are dressed, act, ect. watch the movie & compare it to what you see around your local schools or at the mall. I can tell you teen girls are dressed a lot sexier there then in this movie.

High School Musical Vs. Camp Rock will take the place of the HSM Pep Rally in front of the Sorcerer Hat.

It'll be like West Side Story, with HSM, being the Jets, and Camp Rock being the Sharks.

"The Sharks" may be what you were looking for in 'Puerto Ricans'...no biggy.

But what I was talking about before, the Disney 'talent', I was really just talking about this current uprising of musical 'talent' that has every little girl going nuts in the whole world, even girls that are my age, 16 range, go nuts over HSM.

I don't mind the actors who started on Disney, you do have to start somewhere. But not everyone has to be able to sing this new style of uprising of bubblegum-pop.

I don't need a grapefruit that can take pictures...(Mike Birbiglia reference...don't mind me)

Yeah, I'm sick of it too. Most of them have crashed and burned anyways. The only one who I really think has set up a good career for himself is just Shia Labeouf.

Even Stevens was a top show, which had some very witty humour in, which even I, who extremely dislikes most live action Disney shows/films, enjoyed.

Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure that if you're sitting on this site then you didn't exactly write your entire platinum record by yourself at age 14 like the Jonas Brothers have. They are certified platinum and do most of their writing themselves. Oh, and they happen to play a lot more instruments than I can. Hell, Nick Jonas can play drums, guitar, tambourine, piano, and probably much more.

Play tambourine lol. Just because they have got a platinum record doesn't make them good.

I agree, the reality of high school is far more provocative than anything shown on Disney. My point is that while the shows and movies being produced by Disney are portraying high school age kids and antics, and in a way that is quite watered-down in comparison to most high school experiences, they are not necessarily marketed to that age demographic. Most high school kids I know are not in the least bit interested in Disney shows and movies like HSM and Camp Rock, yes some may be, but it seems the vast majority are "over it."

Having two younger sisters, the oldest only going into 9th grade this fall, they ate the HSM stuff up with a spoon. Now, maybe I am too conservative, maybe I should blame my stepmother for letting them watch it, but I don't see any reason for Disney to be marketing high school age dramas and musicals, to preteens.

And from what I have seen, that is what they seem to be doing. You suggest I go to a mall to see what teenage girls are wearing these days, and I agree it is quite revealing at times to say the least. But I counter and ask you to go to a mall and see how many 17 year old girls are wearing Disney merchandise, whether princesses, HSM, Hannah Montana, or Jonas Brothers, compared to how many preteen and 13 and 14 year old girls are wearing it? Personally, outside of the World, I have never seen a 16+ girl wear anything related to the Disney channels' top franchises.

Maybe I'm just too conservative for these times :brick:

I'm 22 and I love my Disney shirts! Anyways I totally agree with you though. I work in an Apple store in a mall and we are constantly kicking out teens. I call them Pros-ti-tots. We have this program called Photo Booth on all of the computers and all these little girls will try to take all these sexy photos of themselves and put them on myspace.com in the store. We had to block myspace on all of the computers!

^^ I'm a high-schooler, and I know of at least 5 people in my grade (11/going into 12) obsessed with the Jonas Brothers, and to some degree HSM.

...But I'm also, for the majority, disgusted with my generation, so I might be a bit biased if I said I can find those aforementioned revealing clothes everywhere I turn. :lookaroun

^I actually thought "prostitots" was an exclusive term around my region... never mind.

I might not have a record deal (None of the groups I've played with ever attempted to get one), but I play guitar, bass guitar, french horn, trumpet, baritone, tuba, and piano.

Oh, I can play tambourine and triangle too.

Why not do somethin with the cheetah girls. IMO, they and probably a few people off of this new movie actually are good at what they do unlike many of the people in HSM, the cheetah girls and that one girl on the new movie actually have talent. The Jonas Brothers are good, I have to give em their props, I may not be a fan of them or the style of music they sing, and I dont think they have any vocal ability but you dont really have to in order to sing that style, so they're good. I wouldnt buy their cd, but they are talented because they play the instruments and stuff. But HSM kids as well as Myley are nowhere near the level all the hype has em, to me, they really have no talent. So IMO, they oughta put some cheetah girls stuff up.

FYI-Cheetah Girls movie - One World -debuts 8/22/08

Omg...

What is Disney coming to? They think everything on the Disney Channel is worthy of acceptance. I hate Hannah, HSM, Camp Rock, WOWP, etc. I mean what is this? This isn't Disney...
Disney is cartoon featuring that mischevious little Mickey Mouse and his pal Pluto always getting in to trouble. They sugarcoat him too much nowadays.
And all this live shows on Disney suck. What makes it worse? All of the actors/actresses are either setting bad examples outside of Disney or are just plain terrible at their jobs.
Come to think of it, Disney is milking everything. Instead of all these pre-teens on Disney they should bring out the classics and fix up the T.V.
I also hate all the merch coming out. I wouldn't want a t-shirt of Hannah Montana, she looks cross-eyed in her pics. I also think that Disney promoting the JoBros is sickening.....

I rest my case.
