Department 56 is a company that sells a myriad of giftware and collectables....
...sometime back around 1980, the company embarked on a venture of building small ceramic buildings that lit up and looked like an old fashion village ...it's what they call the Original snow village....few years later came the Dickens houses that look like a village straight out of Dickens...and the company exploded into a multitude of villages and houses...I have about 45 pieces of the "Christmas in the City" series...really pretty when all assembled and takes me back to my childhood every Christmas...we also have the entire North Pole Village ...but the collection has to end cuz I have no more room....

oh...and Department 56 was part of another company at one time....the Department that handled 'import giftware' was #56...thus the name...

Department 54?...I think Tenchu is in charge of this one.

..hope this helps ya Hot Tamale......

Thank you Tramp!
I´ve seen those then! I love them! My aunt has a lot of them and sets the Christmas Village every year with train and frozen lake with skaters and all... beautiful! I never wanted to get them when I traveled because I never wanted to carry them and break them in my luggage. :animwink:

Tramp, my parents have decided that "we" are "too big" for the Department 56 village anymore. :( Except the Harley dealership. That we're not too big for. ;)

BTW, the Ryan I worked with last year resigned this summer. And got married, too, but I don't know if that's related....

I used to know a woman whose last name was Ryan, and she named her son Ryan, but Ryan was her birth name, and her son took her husband's last name, so he wasn't Ryan Ryan....

I also am a collector of Dept. 56. I have almost all of the Christmas in the City collection. My fav. buildings are Wongs, the Old Firehouse, the automat, and the night club building (i forget the name of it). Maybe I will run my mono through the city.

I think I also have the Ice factory thing from another set.

...we missed the first 4 or 5 buildings but the collection is huge enough without them...the most recent buildings are real nice with all the 3D parts to them ...storage is the problem...we have all of the North Pole...and each year we alternate the collection that we put up...Two collections is one too many cuz it can cost ya nearly a thousand bucks a year just to keep them up to date...

...btw...I have two extras of the Times Building from CIC that they put out for 2K...still in the box...never opened...why?.....i don't know...maybe I should ebay them...

My parents started it. I just keep adding to the collection every year.

I think my parents might have the Times Square building. I think I remember seeing it.

Why don´t you send them an email with copies of your tickets? Maybe they will send you an autographed t-shirt at least!
