California's FLE????

Next Big Thing

Same way we got TSMM and Little Mermaid. Cloning makes it much easier to budget a new addition. And this jives with the PH rumors we have heard.
For once, jt is right.

However, I must put this into question. Is it 100% FACT that what they are overlooking in that pic is a FLE? How do we know it isn't some other land in DL? Does it specifically mention it in the article or no? Just wondering as I haven't really seen anything that shows me that that is a FLE in that pic.

Not enough room for an expansion the size of WDW's but there is easily enough room for one or two moderate size dark rides where the fantasyland theatre currently resides. Considering it really isn't being used at the moment except for some meet and greets it would be a very likely location. It is located directly behind Casey Junior and to the west of Small World. There's also a little bit of room near the old fantasyland autopia entrance although I don't think its enough for a ride.

The Fantasyland Theater takes up a big chunk of space, although its wedged between Storybookland, Toontown and Small World. It might offer up space for a ride or two, and maybe some shops or a restaurant. They currently do the Princess Fantasy Faire in there every day until 6:00PM.

There's also the old Motorboat Cruise area that sits next to Autopia and under the monorail beams, that's currently unused.

All that said, I'm not sure why they would add to Fantasyland at Disneyland. It already has the most attractions of any Fantasyland in the world; 13 Attractions, including 2 E Tickets with Small World and Matterhorn, a D Ticket boat ride with Storybookland, five separate C Ticket dark rides, and Casey Jr. Circus Train, the usual three round ride B Tickets, and an A Ticket Castle walk-through. And then there's the big Princess Fantasy Faire mega-meet-n-greet already mentioned. Really, Fantasyland at Disneyland is packed to the gills with experiences already.

It would seem a waste to use space to expand Fantasyland even further. Tomorrowland and Frontierland have been the leading rumor contenders for expansion at Disneyland most recently, both being led by Tony Baxter.

I think we are reading too much into a passing comment and an unreadable blueprint in the D23 magazine. But that's just me.

Agreed, they stuck the d23 land sign on there to be cute for the magazine. As to what those blueprints are they are looking at not sure but I wouldnt get too excited. It could simply just be an older blueprint and prop for the picture.

Kinda looks like the shape and ride layout of VotLM to me. But I guess when drawn like that a LOT of dark rides look the same.

The great Al has said they are looking at the FF and ranch areas. The reason is they will need the capacity when Carsland and LM open across the way and it will become necessary to draw some of those masses towards DL to keep DCA from being overwhelmed. It is very similar to the FLE in that regard. Basically a refuge for young families away from the masses is my take on it. Just my opinion.

So Al has not given any indication of the content but he has the location. And Al knows DL. WDW? Not so much.

If Tony Baxter is supposedly overseeing this, would that mean he may have some part in WDW's expansion?
No. The remainder of Tony's career at WDI will be spent on Disneyland.

Highly unlikely that they would ever get ride of the FL Theater.

Yes. The next major development at DL will be in the festival area, likely as an addition to Frontierland.
Tomorrowland will get a repurposed attraction rather than a true expansion.

Yep.

I believe AL said they are looking at a couple new dark rides/attractions and that this is a major expansion in the Disneyland sense. Meaning something like a new restaurant in World Showcase.

By the way, this exact thread is up at another Cali based forum and I have to add; you know all those stereotypes about Californians? They are like so all true. :hammer:

JT, I thought you were extremely hateful of the always-idiotic Al Lutz just like me and others are.

Also, I still believe that this is just another low-down rotten lie made up by Lutz the Putz just to take another unnecessary, unfair swipe at WDW and attempt to overglorify DL and not give WDW ANY chances to shine or be successful in its own right at all!

The two coasts are not attempting to compete with each other in the way that rival corporations do. Never have, never will.

Thanks Lee, I figured as much. That puts that short-lived rumor to bed.

I also doubt they will "announce" much, if anything, at the D23 Destination D conference at the Disneyland Hotel next month. That looks and feels like it will just be a two-day Disneyland Fan Fest type thing rehashing the past, not laying out the future.

I think we'll have to wait for September, 2011 and the big D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center to get any more confirmed rumors on theme park expansion. Until then, we'll just need to be content with pictures over construction walls and tidbits from Al Lutz and other online sources. See you in September, 2011 gang! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgCt-F22Ex0
