What this means for Orange County

Knotts has made masks indoors only for unvaccinated but on an honor system. Disneyland reinstated indoor masks on their own this past summer. The County had no local health order requiring masks

Indoor mask mandate for the state goes into effect this Wednesday

The other news that I’m surprised no one has reported on is the “vax or test” mandate for “mega events” in the state which includes theme parks. Should be fun/interesting.

Does it specifically say theme parks are included?

Also I’ve come to find out that pretty much any business accepts a negative test if you re not vaccinated. They re not really advertising that in the media

These requirement are already implemented at Universal Studios Hollywood or Six Flags Magic Mountain in LA itself, as well as Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disney Resort overseas, which recently trials its vaccine or test requirement for the Japanese Disney parks. Unvaccinated people that want to visit DLP and TDR must present a negative COVID-19 test in respective times (24 hours (PCR or Antigen) for DLP and 72 hours for PCR test (24 hours for antigen test) for TDR).

Unfortunately, these requirement are not necessary for Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.

The actual health guidance for Mega Events only state these examples.

-For Indoor Mega Events (example: conventions/conferences/expos/sporting events and concerts[2])

-For Outdoor Mega Events (example: music or food festivals/car shows/large endurance events and marathons/parades/sporting events and concerts)

You can read it here https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/Beyond-Blueprint-Framework.aspx
What source did the other come from?

Meanwhile, in Colorado the Democrat Governor declares Covid “is over” and ends the emergency declaration this week. He also says there will be not be a statewide mask mandate because politicians “shouldn’t tell people what to wear”. Again, he’s a Democrat (but a savvy one who knows it’s time to stick a fork in Covid).

It will be interesting to see how this plays in OC, where maskless life has been the norm for months now. There is no enforcement attached to this, and even Newsom had to admit it will be on “the honor system” since he knows many Sherriff‘s and police departments refuse to enforce his orders.

DCA is hosting a huge food and music festival daily this month. It’s called Festival Of Holidays. Also, Viva Navidad, which is a smaller but equally crowded food and music festival in the same area.

Disneyland has a giant parade twice per day with a packed parade route. It’s called Christmas Fantasy Parade.

It would seem to me, either Sacramento has to enforce its vacccine/testing mandate at those huge daily events that are exact examples of their ”mega-event” scenarios, or admit this is all just political theater for a former pandemic.

I just checked the papers. Yup, expect “a whole lot of noncompliance” in OC.

That quote is from my specific County Supervisor, Don Wagner, here in District 3. I’ve met him twice at sociables, and he’s a genuinely good guy even with his highly coiffed look that screams “I’m a politician,” 😂

I expect to be non-compliant on my Wednesday errands. I wouldn’t want to disappoint my elected official.

Reading this now… Guidance does appear that vaccination/testing checks at outdoor (10K+ persons) mega events would still be “recommended” vs “required”, as is the case with respect to having a required vax/test requirement for indoor events at 1K+ persons.

Wouldn’t be the first time a member of the Sacramento press club misreported something but it will be interesting to see if/when this may take effect for the outdoor events too.

I’m as pro-vaccine as they come but as @TP2000 points out I’d be shocked if any theme parks in OC or San Diego are voluntarily checking vaccine/test status.

Theme parks outside of LA County won't be checking for vaccine/test stuff unless either their county orders it which we know OC won't or they decide to do it themselves

At Knotts Berry Farm for the Ice Show this year, they've cut capacity for the Walter Knotts Theater I believe to avoid having the show classified as an indoor mega event and therefore checking for vaccine or negative tests. Their disclaimer on the show description reads: As required by the State of California, seating capacity for the Merry Christmas, Snoopy! Ice Show in the Walter Knott Theater will be restricted.
