Hi all! I have reservations at the California Grill and I was reading the business casual attire on the website and I have a question. WHat would be proper foot attire? Can you wear nice flip-flops/sandals with nice pants?

Thanks,
Mark

:ROFLOL:

I'm pretty sure it would be okay, the standards for dress are really lowered as this is a vacation destination.

However, if I was going to what should be a dress-up establishment, I would at least wear somekind of footgear that included socks.

Ladies: Jeans, skirts, or dress shorts with blouse or sweater, or a dress required.
Not permitted in dining room: tank tops, swimming suits or swim suit cover ups, t-shirts, hats for gentleman, cut offs, or torn clothing of any kind.

Sorry, but I really don't think this would be appropriate attire. Business casual usually means you don't have to wear a suit and tie, a polo shirt or button down with dress shorts or slacks would be fine. Shoe wise, I'd stick to some sort of loafer or other slip on type closed shoe. My husband has some slip on Merrels that he wears for casual outings.

A nice pair of sandals when worn appropriately would be fine. Business casual is strictly a suggestion, and sandals fall within Florida Casual.

However, no $2 Old Navy rubber flip flops

I really don't see a problem with flip flops myself, but if you want to be extra safe, I guess you should go with "nicer" sandals, whatever they are.

No flip flops. We saw a guy a guy in the Yachtsman Steakhouse being told they were not acceptable, but then again everything they were wearing was not "acceptable". If you don't have a pair of dock shoes then a nice pair of leather sandals (not things style) should do. A clean pair of sneaker type walking shoes would be acceptable if wearing jeans (a nicer pair :lookaroun ).

There have been a few other threads about this, but I'll quote for you from allears...

Business Casual- No hats, swim suits, swim suit coveralls, tank tops, T-shirts, torn clothing or flip-flops.

You can wear - dress shorts, pants, jean pants, collared shirts, blouses, sweaters, pants.

Skip the sandals - they're not appropriate for "business casual," and you'd feel conspicuous in them. Besides, you're going to the expense of a good meal in a very nice restaurant, so why not dress up?

Have a great time!

I have a question that is sort of the opposite--if I wear a jacket and have a tie on at California Grill, will I feel overdressed? Do many others wear shirt/tie and coat, or is that considered too much being that it's Disney?

Really? One time they wouldn't let us in when we were in our t-shirts/shorts from the parks. But prior to that, we'd gotten in wearing our t-shirts/shorts. So maybe it depends on who checks you in.

It probably makes a difference as to what season it is, and how busy they are.

I would imagine that the busier they are the more picky they can be.

Is it just me or is the whole concept of "business casual" at a vacation resort a bit wierd. Frankly I think most guy go on vacation so they can get away from the "clothes nazis". Does anyone else think this is a bit much? I mean okay I understand the no swim suits... I can even understand the requirement of shoes... but isn't the idea of a vacation to stop worrying about what you wear?

Then do not plan on going to the "fancier" restaurants. There are plenty of others to choose from. Thats what so great about WDW, there is something for everyone. I have often seen people walking around in what would be considered business casual in the parks, some people just dress that way naturally.

Disney has updated it business casual policy, by they way...

from allearsnet:

Effective July 1, 2007, Disney modified its Business Casual Dress Code at its premier restaurants to include t-shirts. The guidelines, which originally went into effect July 2005, still prohibit hats, swim suits, swim suit coveralls, tank tops, torn clothing or flip-flops. Suggested attire includes dress shorts, pants, jean pants, collared shirts, blouses, sweaters. Restaurants now requiring Business Casual dress include: Artist Point (Wilderness Lodge), California Grill (Contemporary), Citricos and Narcoossee's (Grand Floridian), Jiko (Animal Kingdom Lodge), Flying Fish (Boardwalk), and Yachtsman Steakhouse (Yacht Club).

we always take along a set of "nice clothes" no matter where we vacation just in case the mood strikes us. And by that I don't measn suits and dresses, but a pair of dockers and a polo or oxford for the DH and nice pants and a shirt for the girls.

I probably should've started my own topic rather than resurrect an old one, but can anyone else confirm that I won't feel out of place wearing a jacket and tie at California Grill?

I think you should be fine. I've seen men in jackets and ties in the Concourse Steakhouse (and the women they were with in dresses, jewelry...the works).

If thats what you want to wear then go ahead, relax and have a good time.

Likewise I didnt fork out $100 + a person to dine next to some sweaty Noo Yoiker in a t shirt with the sleves cut off and a pair of shorts with his hanging out.
The buisness casual look dosent apply to park eateries, so tramp it up there till your hearts content.
