Just a little help please.... Has anyone ever stayed in a cabin? Which would you perfer? Is getting around at Wilderness easy? It looks so big on the map. Should you rent a golf cart even if you have a car? Can you park right at your cabin? What are some advantages or disadvantages? Thanks in advance for all the answer!:sohappy:

Thanks that confirms it. We need to have two bathrooms or someone is going to leave the room with bruises every morning.

Well, depending on how much (or little) you value your privacy, there are bathroom and shower stations throughout all of the campgrounds. I've never used them myself, but supposedly they're about the cleanest campground facilities get (frequently getting the highest marks from KOA). I've no idea if you can only specifically use the station in your designated loop, but if that's not the case, there's no law that says one or two people can't take a stroll over to one of those stations and shower there, if it means having all the other amenities staying at a FW cabin has to offer.

However, if two bathrooms trumps all else, then you know your own answer. :)

Someone else from WV wishing they were in Florida! Hi!

With the current promotion, consider an upgrade to a mod like POR. I don't know about values vs. the cabins. The cabins never looked appealing to me. I had negative experiences at All Star Movies in 2006. I would be very hard-pressed to ever stay at a value again. The cabins do have a boat to the WL (I think) so that could give you some transportation options.

If you plan to spend any quality time outside of the parks, enjoying wherever you stay, choose a cabin & don't think twice. The only thing the Value Resorts really have over FW is themed pools.

And you can recoup at least some of the difference in cost (if you want) by having some meals in the cabin, since you do have the full kitchen. Granted, who wants to cook on vacation? But maybe heat up some frozen pizzas or microwaveable breakfast sandwiches, cold cuts for some lunches, cereal & muffins or bagels for a breakfast or two. Popcorn as a snack, and plenty of colas & juices so you don't have to do take long treks to fill up your deceptively shallow refillable mug, nor will you have to pay the high vending machine prices. Heck, with 6 people, even some of them being wee ones, counter service meals will usually run you over 50 bucks. I know, the Value suites have a microwave & tiny fridge, but you'll have more options with the kitchen in the cabin.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Thanks!:sohappy:

I'm pretty sure her party size is too big for a moderate room. To all stay in one unit and on-site, it's either Value Suites, FW cabins or 2BR villas in a DVC resort...

To that end, I don't know if it would save you any money, but DVC members who can't go any time soon often rent their points out at 9-13 dollars a point. Something else to ponder.

Or 2 rooms at a value resort with TWO bathrooms for getting ready in the morning, etc. Might not be as fun for the kids as FW, though.....Just an idea........

Heading for the great escape.
Cant speak about the value resorts, but the cabins are great. Never used them to their full extent, as we eat out rather than use the BBQ or kitchenother than B/fast.

As for the buses, I figured out that the place listed on the front sign was usually where they were heading, it worked a treat. But on one or two occasions we walked from our cabin near the pool to the Trails End. Its not the walk thats a problem, its the muppets who cant control golf carts thats the risk.

There's an internal bus system that gets you around the campground. They're actual buses. I'm not the best person to ask since I've only used it a handful of times, but I found it kind of confusing.

I think when it comes to Disney, you compare a lot. I find the Values have the best bus transportation, so when staying at another resort, I sometimes find the service to be very slow. Being impatient doesn't help either.

Have you thought about looking at Wilderness Lodge? I hate to be one of those people always trying to sell their favorite resort, but since you're interested in Fort Wilderness, it might be a good idea. You're close enough to ride a bike to FW, the rooms are less expensive at the Lodge than the cabins, plus you get a nice quick boat ride to Magic Kingdom. Plus, all your amenities are in 1 building. You get the bost of both worlds really.

The cabins have been reclassified as a moderate, so the rate for a cabin is now on of the best deals on property and less than a room at the WL.

Go for the cabin. Much more room and a kitchen, deck, picnic table plus the Trails End which is the least expensive place to eat on property.
