Building a Contemporary DVC

Per the site plans...

They're building the site offices for the Contemporary DVC. The end of STOLport is all torn up, and they're clearing the lot. They're established a large parking lot (with several cars) at north end (where the document states) that the Contemporary DVC offices will be. You can see it from the Epcot monorail as a work-in-progress.

Otherwise Contemporary itself is a work-in-progress.

I've got some photos. None of the DVC trailer-site, but of the North Wing under "refurbishtransformationment" and of *dramatic pause* new CM costumes!

Give me a few mins... I'll get some photos up.

Other misc. involving Contemporary... They're painting the atrium window structure on the south end finally, the match the north end that got painted a while ago. They've put in small stands and shelves to function as a makeshift store in the big open space where the Pin Station used to be, featuring hats and some monorail toys. The Tower's stairwell balconys (flanking the atrium windows) are now "no re-entry" and not observation decks, but rather just fire escapes. This decisions was made by someone at the Contemporary in management, and i suspect its to prevent photo ops of the construction.

Ironicly someone else had placed a bar of Mickey Mouse soap in the door to prop it open before I even got there *shrug*

First photo... New Costumes:

contcost1.jpg

Brown/tan top, with dark brown pants to match the builds new color scheme, to a "T." Only the Housekeepers I saw ahd new costumes, everyone else still wore the green/grey/blue/purple costumes.

More pics..

The altered parking lots. Note how all the dividers and planters have been removed. Lots of workers cars too.

contnorth1.jpg

Even though the lot over at the STOLport site was pretty darn full too. Now, does anyone know what's actually going on in this photo?

contnorth.jpg

It looks like they're making square frames out of lumber.. note how they've built two on and one it sitting around one of the circular planters and the other is sort of just sitting next to it. Weird hobby..

Sad note.. the torn awning :( Peeking at the rooms/building, the part of the wing on the water appears to be getting the work, not the front. The front still looks normal in the windows, the back is what has blacked out windows with weird vents.

contnorth2.jpg

See.. look.. weird vents..

contnorth3.jpg

But what on earth do you do to a room that suddenly causes it to rust the railing on the balcony and discolor the masonry like that? Bizarre? What are they doing? Bleaching it? Acid bath?

The Front Desk & concierge costumes are even better. Dark brown pinstriped jacket & trousers and matching ties & shirts. Sky blue for Front Desk, Salmon for Lobby & Club concierge. The locks were put on for the doors for all of the outer stairwells for safety reasons (partially because of an incident that's a little graphic that happened not too long ago involving those balconies.) they are still cleaning and removing all asbestos from north because they don't want any of it to become airborne when it's demolished. As far as when DVC is actually coming, it's looking like the far future, they won't officially announce anything until DAK Lodge DVC sells out. Also, NO new shops OR restaurants in the new building. Chef Mickey's just got 200x harder to get into...

North has looked like that ever since I've been there. The rust is nothing new, people are just noticing it now because got so much mystery and speculation surrounding it. If you look closely they painted all the brick on the south to match the tower's color, and to cover up the rust & oxidization.

Well, you might know the answer...

Is it just me, or did they FINALLY clean the glass/plexi ceiling of BVG?

It seemed less dusty then usual today and I didn't want to swiffer it myself, which is my usual OCD reaction to it.

That aside, the new carpet proposed in the concept art for the 4th floor needs to go in. The sea of gray is really big and empt feeling.. just the carpet would make the whole area feel brighter and warmer. The rooms/floors already have a nice warm tone, it just needs some color now.

One last little pic...

You know, for a place that is concerned about safety and information getting out.. you'd think they'd know better then to leave the doors to the Boardroom at the Contemporary wide open.

(Note the bottles of Dasani and wine glasses left on the table)

Here's my take on these photos.(been in the construction biz for 30 years, so I'm not an expert, nor do i portray one on the job site:rolleyes: )

The "frames" you refer to appear to be made out of PVC pipe and not lumber. They could be anything, protective covers for the planters, or something that was used in the building previously.

Note the large plywood box. Storage container? Why build that for a total demo project? It's on a pallet too, easily moved by forklift. More pallets stacked to the side.

Notice the temporary wooden doors at the entrance. Why put temps up for a total demo?

Also, the location and number of port-a-pots. Six, maybe eight, potty's for a demo, and located right next to the building? The number of potty's suggest that either the water is off in the building, or, that DIS does not want the existing bathrooms used during construction. If the NW is to be demo'd, why have port-a-pots during the interior clean out phase? Just use the existing.

This photo says "renovation" to me. Only an educated guess.

If you look closely at the photo, you can see a fastening point for the railing above each rust trail. This is no more than decaying metal.

The vents. Nothing out of the ordinary. Particulate removal for any interior demo work.:hurl:

Like I said, looks like a renovation to me. Time will tell. Maybe those rumors from a few years back were right. The new DVC will go in at the Tennis Center location.

:)

Those look like pallets. I don't think they were built but are just used to transport items by forklift or pallet jacks. You can see one under the wooden box too.

I would agree that the crate may be for an ice machine. Now all of the pallets that are there could be to stack on TV's or other items that will not go into a dumpster. They will probably spend a few weeks gutting the building and then you will probably see some serious equipment in there to take down the structure itself.

I'll never cease to be amazed and baffled by these posts that still say they can't see what's going on here.

It's.............a..............demolition.

Let me go look...

Nope, still kind of cruddy (don't look at the top of the entrance ways to the shop either, you'll freak out). No change on the atrium until they're ready to move the arcade up to Fantasia Gift's soon-to-be-former location.

That's the America's Level Conventions Boardroom. The Executive Boardroom is on the 3rd floor behind Thea's (the General Manager) office. It's much smaller and less showy than the conventions boardroom, and currently filled with sketches and blueprints. The one pictured is used for convention meeting planners and visiting executives. Only rarely is it used for Disney company meetings, unless we absolutley do not have space in the Executive office.

Clearing up confusion - I'm not talking about the pallets, but rather the "cubes" that are about 5-6ft tall that are under the canopy on the left side across from the big box, one of which is sitting around one of the circular planters.

I assumed they were lumber (1x3 or something) but it could be PVC pipe as mentioned.

Thanks for the photos.
They look very interesting.
Please keep us updated.

I am still hoping the North Wing goes down and a DVC goes up!:sohappy:
