I'm assuming that you don't live in the United States...

"Song of the South" has been released to VHS several times in other countries. I've met people who own the German version that has been re-dubbed in English.

Disney does have a "Song of the South" Sing-A- Along video that has Zip-a-dee-do-dah in it with Uncle Remus and Br'er rabbit.
I did have the opportunity to see "Song of South" when I visited Europe in 2001.
To tell you truth except for the live action/animated part the movie was in black and white, dated, politically incorrect and yes, dare I say it BORING.
I still think it could be edited and retold (maybe a grandfather telling the stories that were told to his grandfather about Uncle Remus and Br'er rabbit).

I think it could not only be a money maker but a big hit with young children if the animated stories from the "song of the South" and classic songs were brough back to life again.

I know if I were to summit the idea to Disney they would politely erase or discard my letter because they only accept ideas from within the company.
I know I am not the first to think of this and I won't be last so I do not want any credit for this idea but I would love it if a group of you cast members out there would submit the idea for all of us. IT would be wonderful to be able to buy a version of the "tales of Br'er rabbit" to show and to share with my grandson.

Thanks!

There were rumblings that Disney might release it via downloads over the internet, but not on DVD or anything... but does that make any sense? It's still going to be available for purchase...

But I'm only in my 20's and I've seen Song of the South many a time and I also remember seeing the animated segments on the Disney channel when I was a kid.

I know a guy who has SitS on DVD, I've even been to his house to see it. It was pretty good.
I've seen it in france (no, not world showcase) at a videostore, but I didn't buy it because it was in french.

That notion should be dismissed, being that they're inserting the Three Caballeros into Mexico's El Rio Del Tiempo.

Very few World Showcase countries (maybe only one, actually, France) are still represented by the actual country. In the beginning, every single one was sponsored by it's home country. Unfortunately, that's not the case anymore, and therefore, Disney has nearly 100% say so in what happens within the walls of each. Yet another reason you can expect to see characters in the future in World Showcase.
Not to mention - do any of you all remember in the early 90's (which I started going to WDW in 1992, so perhaps before then as well) that there WERE Disney characters in World Showcase? I remember that Tigger represented Morroco, Chip and Dale represented China, and Minnie, I think, represented Japan. I wish I could remember the rest. But there was merchandise and plush dolls of the characters in traditional clothes from the countries each represented. So if they could do that again, I think bringing characters into the countries would work. I certainly hope they don't just randomly throw characters into World Showcase.

There's a second movie? Actually, I got so bored with the first that I never even finished it.

.

I think Donald represented Mexico, Daisy Germany , Goofy Norway, and Mickey was dressed like Uncle Sam to represent the United States of America.

Here's a newer picture to illustrate the area better. You overestimated a bit. There is SOME room....just very little...probably not enough to do anything meaningful with...but theme parks have surprised me in the past

Not overestimating at all, man. I see that area 5 out of 7 days a week and can assure you nothing more than a small immoble simulator a la Star Tours could fit there, and it would mean knocking over the bus stop.

Sorry to say...
Most people do not consider other websites credible sources, unless it is back up several times, by more than fan speculation.

Depends on the website. ;) For example, pretty much anything Steve posts is accurate, and when it ends up not being, its not because it wasn't true, but because the circumstances changed regarding it - ya know? I think the same goes for a few other websites, I think mouseplanet, touringplans, mouseinfo are all seem by most people in those categories.

Not mine... but

During the question and answer session at Disney's 2006 Annual Meeting of Shareholders in Anaheim, CA, the question was raised by a Disney shareholder why Song of the South has not been released. Here is a transcript:

"My name is Howard Cromer. I live in Cypress, I'm a Disney shareholder. I'm actually delivering a message from my son, 10. He wants to know in recent years, in the midst of all your re-releases of your videos, why you haven't released Song of the South on your Disney Classics?" [Applause] "And, he wonders why. Frank Wells told me many years ago that it would be coming out. Well obviously Frank Wells isn't around anymore, so we still wonder why. And by the way, Mr. Iger, he thinks it was a very good choice when they made you CEO of Disney." [Applause]

Iger: "Thank you very much. You may change your mind when I answer your question, though. Um... we've discussed this a lot. We believe it's actually an opportunity from a financial perspective to put Song of the South out. I screened it fairly recently because I hadn't seen it since I was a child, and I have to tell you after I watched it, even considering the context that it was made, I had some concerns about it because of what it depicted. And thought it's quite possible that people wouldn't consider it in the context that it was made, and there were some... [long pause] depictions that I mentioned earlier in the film that I think would be bothersome to a lot of people. And so, owing to the sensitivity that exists in our culture, balancing it with the desire to, uh, maybe increase our earnings a bit, but never putting that in front of what we thought were our ethics and our integrity, we made the decision not to re-release it."

Disappionting to say the least. I need to watch it again from a "culturally sensitive" point of view. We got a poorly dubbed DVD copy on ebay a year or so ago.

Uh the same can be said about Miceage and Jim Hill Media. Miceage in particular because I would say 90% of the rumors al lutz posted on his website since its opening a few years ago, have come true.

I am just referring to the size of area you marked off for the Soarin ride itself. I agree that very little could actually fit in there

It looks as if there's about as much space as Canada itself occupies, bus stop notwithstanding. You could manage a decent attraction in the space if you were to get creative about things.

With enough mountain ranges to block Soarin', anything's possible.
