some questions for ya then..

1-how often/far do you drive it..

2-do you keep the 4WD on at all times (if you have the option_

3-how big is your gas tank.

I get double your gas mileage and I fill it up 1 1/2 per week.. and I'm empty by the end of the week

Recently hasn't been that bad. Just a daily driver local... 4WD is off, although I don't have manual hubs which only lowers my MPG. Gas tank is 20 gallons. If I go off-roading, it destroys my MPG. Its a 4-Banger too, so that helps a little.

I saw that while I was in Detroit, and I didn't really like it... I like the plain old Hummer. The H2 is cool, but something about a Hummer and chrome trim doesn't mix well with me

If you get a Hummer and don't take it off-roading at least once a week, I will hate you forever.

yeah... and poor crash test ratings. But, this is what I drove in PR, and I've been rear-ended in it 4 times w/ no injuries to myself, and minimal damage to the truck. I think I may have gotten a good one

I'm not totally convinced by crash test ratings myself. And of course there is an element of luck involved. I rolled my car 360 dgs., and came out without so much as the smallest bruise. Now that's luck! ( and a sturdy little VW!) :D

They even say, like 90% of the owners of the new Hummer won't even take it on dirt roads, much less off-roading. That just sickens me. I hope their gas milage is worse than mine.

true... I keep forgetting that in Orlando, everything is friggin far! When I was in PR, I'd fill my tank every 10 or so days, once a week in Miami, and Houston.

On an average day, I drive about 60 or so miles (some days upwards of 150)... and don't leave Orange County. At least I know I have a reliable car.. lol.

my friend Alex has a bright yellow hummer w/ a snorkel, and he's afraid to take it off the road. You can imagine what I called him...

Keep in mind I'm driving a brick on wheels... so I don't expect outstanding mileage.

oh, I know. That was the main reason I didn't buy a Jeep last time. Prior to that I had a 95 Cherokee and a 99 Wrangler. I sold them both, and bought the montero and had it shipped to PR for my 3 month sabbatical in 2000

(i know it sounds strange, but paying the $800 round trip shipping was actually cheaper than renting a car for 3 months, and since i actually only spent 89 days there rather than 90, I didn't pay any taxes on it)

With a snorkel? Ha... Sure... lets get a $300+ mod and not take it off roading.

Truth is, at least around me, you can't take a Hummer off-road. The friggin thing is a boat, and you would destroy it. There is a story going around one of the Jeep boards that a Hummer challenged a couple of Jeeps off-roading and ended up with the entire side of the Hummer being smashed.... god I love my tiny jeep with ridiculously small wheel base & turning radius.

Yeah, come march, I'm driving to Detroit to visit... her, and from what I've been told, driving an import in Detroit is like sacrilege. Oh well... not a lot is sacred anymore

Yeah... neither Jeep will get good gas mileage... and if you have the inline-6, forget it.

that I understand... but the poor guy (well... not poor) is afraid to take the damn thing on an unpaved road. Then again though, if I just spent nearly 6 figures on a car, I'd be a bit protective of it.

Sorry to interrupt: Just wanted to say that this is one of the weirdest threads I've ever seen.

We now return to our regularly-scheduled episode of 'Car Talk'.

You hit the nail on the head. What's weird is, the entire time I was down there, they have Montero Sports over there, but they're not made in the Mitsubishi US factory like the mainland models. Rather, they're made in the Mitsubishi Argentina plant which services latin america, so a Montero Sport in PR is actually called a 'Nativa'. It was great the 1 time I took it in for warranty work, and according to them my car didn't exist.

What are you auditioning for?

I used to wonder how there was a “world famous” Ron Jon Surf Shop in a place with almost no surf… Then they opened a resort no where near a beach and I realized they are just out of their minds. ;)
