bringing food...?

I was just wondering if anyone has brought non-pershible food with them. I know you cannot take it on in your carryon, but i was thinking of checking a small bag with breakfast bars, oranges and other snacks for while we are there. My problem is i am hypoglycimac (sp?) and i need to each small things throughout the day which can get very expensive. I was then going to use the empty bag to bring home souvineers. Has anyone ever done this?

We always bring a suitcase full of food. Snacks for the kids, mac & cheese, soup, cereal. That way if the kids are hungry in the room, they have stuff & it's not that expensive. Also, on the way home we now have an empty suitcase to fill with souveneirs!:)

Yes, definitely!

I do it every time we go. I usually pack oatmeal, breakfast bars, small packages of crackers, tea bags, and other snacks as well, in my checked luggage, even throw a few in my carry on for the plane. Then when I get to the resort, I buy my milk and what not. I have always "reported" the food items and I have never had a problem.

There should be no problem putting it in your luggage. When I went last April, I took a box of granola bars, a box of fruit snacks and a few other items (all from BJs). It was great - we had small things to munch on throughout the day when we were in the parks and, sometimes, the kids ate them for breakfast.

I am a diagnosed hypoglycemic and so is my daughter - the only "meal" we eat (if at all) is dinner. So I understand perfectly!:)

We are going again this October and we plan to do the same thing - fill 1/2 a suitacase with food! Have fun!!!

We do it all the time. Be careful that you don't over pack. Food could get heavy and you don't want to exceed the weight limit on your suitcase (even a small one). I know it sounds a little crazy, but, I did it myself!:lookaroun

I travel a lot for my job. I always carry some sort of food on board. You can't really bring liquid items, but most food is ok. I usually carry fruit, snack mix, crackers, and something sweet.

Let me second this. You should always have some food and drink on board with you. You never know when you will get stuck on a plane for an extended period of time, and the pretzels and water quickly run out. You actually can bring liquids on board, as long as you have purchased them after security. So my first stop is for a bottle of water to go with the granola bars and fruit that I have in my bag.

Even if you aren't stuck on the plane, your luggage might be delayed and then you would be without your food until it arrives - could be 24-48 hrs later.

I can't say about flying, but we always bring food, snacks, water etc when we drive down. I take quite a bit into the parks with us. I have a special needs child and food is our saviour for her moods. I need to have things on hand to let her snack on for those long waits. I have brought sandwiches as well as all of your regular snacks into the parks with no questions. I would bring with you anything you need that you can pack. A lot cheaper than buying it down there. Have Fun!

When I go to Disney with 3 others, we always bring a suite case just of food. Small things we can stuff in our pockets for breakfast on the bus to a park in the morning, or something to eat durning the day. It works out well, We usually bring cereal and buy milk in the store of the hotel for days we are going to sleep in. I would totally bring some sort of food.

As far as flying with the food. As long as it is in a suite case of some sort The airport really doesnt say much or anything at all. and we always carrie on our bags, so there will be 4 suite cases total 2 of my friends are brothers so they share a bag then theres mine my friends and then the food all in the over heads...

There are no restrictions on solid foods in carry-on bags. You can't bring gels or liquids, or ratherm you can'ty bring gels or liquids past security -- once you get past security, you can buy whatever you want.

So yogurt, jello, jelly, anything liquid or gel is a no-go to get past security. But take all the cookies, chips, instant oatmeal, granola bars, etc. you want.

You don't have to "declare" any food in your carry-ons OR in your checked bags, and you certainly are not getting away with anything by taking them with you, as long as you follow the rule about no liquids/gels in your carry-ons.

(Yes, I'm aware of the 3-1-1 rule, but I'm assuming no one's taking liquid/gel foods in 3 oz. or smaller containers)

Eric, if you are coming from outside the US, you do have to declare any food stuff you are bringing into the country, whether in checked luggage or carry on. That being said, as long as you do not bring fruit or veggies "off the tree" so to speak, you're ok. Coming from Canada, I've always had to declate food, but never had a problem.

We fly a lot. Taking food on the plane should not be a problem. We usually take some small snacks, including fruit and baby food, etc. I always tell the people at security before hand.

Taking some into the parks should be fine as well. My husband has a lot of food allergies, so we have to take his food with us and no one has ever said anything.

My mom is diabetic so we always bring a small suitcase with food. We bring cereal, nuts, and other snacks that my mom eats that Walt Disney doesn't have.

We take a suitcase with cereal, bowls for cereal , goodies, collapsable cooler for ice in the room , and whatever goodies the kids want such as crackers to carry around and pretzels or whatever they may want. Before the past years security we used to take a little cooler on the plane with sodas and hoagies for when we arrived after traveling from early in the morning.
